How can these damn "Zebra"s be so damn blind to the holding that's going on in this freakin game...Just let them get away with that shit on every freakin play....

Now if "JustCrap" can move the team like a legitimate "QB" we might score some pts here....

20-17 Raiders....
What the hell is this damn shit....We get the flag for "PF" which is worth 15yds or half the distance to the goal....Either way we be inside the 10 with a 1st dn...
NO...There was NOT 2 flags on the field but they call Intentional Grounding on a pass where his arm was hit so the ball couldn't go where he was throwing it....That's stupid "BS"...If your arm is hit now your "IG" if there's no receiver in the area where the ball ends up........
Well...That's not great football but at this point it's still exciting and I will take it....

Raiders at 7-n-7 play... Indy @ Raiders "KC" @ "KC"
We need to go after a new starter for 2011..."JustCrap" may be serviceable at times but even in a game like this where we dominate with 260yds rushing he could have cost us the damn game with his stupid "SleepWalk" Syndrome....
PantyRaider...For The Record "JustCrap" Remains In Place!!!!/_
>>>> Could somebody explain to me why we were called for illegal formation when Z Miller scored? Didn't we have 7 guys on the line? Am I missing something? >>>
And why isn't it reviewable?
Seems like if they can review subjective things like ball spots, why not reviewing things like that?
It did look kinda goofy with players scrambling pre-snap, but reviews looked like there were 7 people stationary.
Took 7 off the board... the goofy TD pass added 7... this shoulda been another blowout.
Oh well... made it a more entertaining game... on to Indy.
Cant imagine anyone looking forward to playing the Raiders right now...
Damn...Bust Routt's ass for being there and making a play on very tight coverage....He did his freakin job...The "Zebra"s are the ones who failed in that situation...
The other "DB" hit the ball with his leg...It was a lucky catch by the "WR" but he was clearly out by the time he had possession of the ball...
Last I checked Routt was playing "CB" NOT "WR"...Now are you wanting to keep record of "Drops" on "CB"s too...Freakin unreal stupidity...
The "TD" that was called back had NO evidence to support it...But that was just one compared to the many ignored holding violations that were flagrant but NOT flagged letting them get away with some real stupid "BS"...
11-on-16 is very damn real this season...It gets that way when the Raiders start showing they can win...
The "D" only gave up a total of 235yds in this game...The fact that it was almost out of hand can NOT be pined on their shoulders or the "ST"s....It was totally the suck-ass "JustCrap" play at "QB" and the stupid fumbled exchange on a reverse trying to be too cute in a "MudBowl" and the flagrant "BlindMan" impersonation of the "Zebra"s.......
Anything else is just stupid bashing of a Raider player for what ever personal reasons...
PantyRaider....PIRIOD!!!!/_
Oh! Well Hell...Zack dropped a pass so bash him now...RIGHT!!!...
You are correct. In the replay you can clearly see the wide receiver adjust before the snap and line up properly. He was also set a full second before the snap of the ball.
Also, I think the call came from across the field. Weird play.
The next play with the interception should have never happened.
Panty,
Campbell made some very good decisions. In this weather you are not going to be able to pass the ball as well.
He ran for some crucial first downs and some very timely completions, one on fourth down. We also have a winning record when he is in the game. The just crap quarterback was cut last spring.
My biggest complaint is the announcers. Listening to them at the end of the game you would have thought Denver had won the game. They were gushing over Tebow. He was all they wanted to talk about at the end of the game.
There was a lot of good in this game. We thoroughly dominated the Geldings. Offense, defense and special teams. Even Janakowski got off a decent punt under adverse circumstances. And, we got the ball back.
We are 6-4 in our last ten games, 5-0 in the division, and we've broken the string of 11 loss seasons. We won't even have double digit losses and we are still in the hunt with two games to go.
My biggest complaint is the announcers. Listening to them at the end of the game you would have thought Denver had won the game. They were gushing over Tebow. He was all they wanted to talk about at the end of the game. >>>>
Good gawd... it was throughout the entire game.
I kept saying... "Are we listening to the Denver feed or something???"
Its not as bad as the refs having an anti-Oakland bias... but still annoying as hell.
Yes...There were some positives from "JustCrap" later in the game but he set us in the hole early on...Never should have been there but with "JustCrap"s ineptness and the "Zebra"s "BlindMan" impersonation it became the reality that we had to fight back from against a very weak team...
Had this been next week against Indy how would you expect us to be able to fight back from his early mistakes...14 pts off "TO"s and a "FG" too....
17pts that never should have been on the board the way our "D" was playing....
In my opinion we can't depend upon his inconsistent play at the most critical position on the football field..."QB"...Where we need a true leader with a will to win leading us...
Hell...Tebow played better with much less...He was a fiery leader that got as much as possible out of his team...He made some beautiful throws for a rookie in his 1st start ever who was under constant siege from our "D"...I would trade hands down for a player with heart like him and an up-side that's still developing...
Conversely "JustCrap" is played out and going nowhere now in his 6th yr...
Hell...It was the rookie who avoided the mistakes and the 6 yr vet who was making them...And that 6 yr vet was on for one pass and extremely off target on the next...It was the rookie who was throwing the ball with accuracy and on time...
Tebow produced a 100.5 Rank and is rated 120 in his 7 games this season while "JustCrap" was a solid "69"....
WoW!!!...Now that's really impressive!!!...
NOT that I would start pimping Tebow as the next great "QB" of our era...Just last week Denver was re-evaluating the selection saying that was one of "McDamnMules" mistakes....Bet they talk different now...
PantyRaider...Hell!!!...If he Can Improve Maybe They Have A Shot At The Chargers Week 17 At Home!!!/_
Hate to root for the "MuleHead"s but will have NO choice it appears...
Panty, I agree with H. Campbell is not gonna make anybody forget Ken Stabler but he has been quietly efficient and effective. I am not in love with the guy but he playfakes as well as any qb in the league and if given time is an effective passer. "JustCrap" is a little over the top. On a different note does everyone agree tha J.L. Higgins time with the Raiders should be officially over since N. Miller can do just about everything better. It was so nice not to see (on punt returns) the over the top juking for minus 5 everytime.
Panty... I disagree strongly about Campbell... he is not, nor may never will be an elite top-5 QB, but he has settled down into being a QB that isn't going to lose the game.
With McF, that might be enough for quite awhile for the Raiders.
I do think they should draft a project QB to wait in the wings, but I don't see anything else as a short term fix for this team.
If I were Jackson, I'd simply be getting the ball in open space 65% of the time to McF.
The guy is lightning in a bottle... best RB I've seen for the Raiders since Bo Jackson.
You were right about picking him Panty... disagree on Campbell.
PANTIES....U are full of crap, your boyfriend tiboo is flying back to donko city as we speaks with nothing to show for but a bunch of malign calls by the stupibras, all he did was a run that our defense was not expecting, he wasn't able to create a first down with his legs after that, he threw a couple of ducks that ended in the recievers hands by luck and the TD "I KNOW UR GOING TO HATE THIS" but it was NOT a touchdown, the stupibras like always fucked up.
Get over it, Campbell is slightly above average and at this time I much rather have him that your boyfriend tiboo.
If I told you in January you can trade "JustCrap" for Tebow is there any takers...
The guy is so spurty it makes me sick...Every time he gets his hands on the ball I have NO idea if he is going to make a play for us or against us helping the other team...
Talk about disappearing in the game the guy "SleepWalks" for an entire half...
Our piss poor passing rank can be directly tied to him at "QB"...
Just imagine if you will an above average "QB" with 60% completions who is on target on time and has legs and avoids stupid mistakes...Is that really too much to ask for....Maybe a guy who moves to avoid the rush and prolongs the play instead of standing there as the pressure is closing in on his backside like I saw happening in this game repeatedly...
Simple fact is I have absolutely NO confidence in the bastard one play or one week to the next....
PantyRaider...Inconsistent As Inconsistent Gets!!!!/_
I think we gave Denver breathing life in the 1st half with 3 turnovers and 2 improbable TDs but hung tough to go into half at 17-17. After taking Denver's best punch in the 1st half, we settled down in the 2nd half and exerted our will. It wasn't the game I expected but it did show some resiliency and fortitude. In the past 7 seasons, this would have been the type of game we would squander.
We need help from Tenn (vs KC) and Cincy (vs SD) this upcoming Sunday plus an upset win over Indy. Sounds improbable but nevertheless, a possibility ...
Hear me out on my far fetched theories and musings:
On the road, cold weather game, Cincy pounds the rock with Benson and controls the game. (Cincy won today vs. Cleveland).
Tenn. playing loose but with pride, is still a pretty solid team in terms of personnel and coaching. CJ goes off for 200+ yards and thump KC. (Tenn looked impressive today crushing Hou).
Oakland has a chance vs. Indy with their (a) strong running attack which is Indy's weakness (b) can concentrate on pass D in M2M coverage. If Oakland runs the ball like they did vs. Den1, Sea, SD2, Indy will have their hands full. It is the perfect foil to Indy since it keeps Manning off the field, keeps our D fresh, and turns the game into a smash-mouth slugfest.
If I told you in January you can trade "JustCrap" for Tebow is there any takers... >>>>
The upside might be higher, and I did see some surprising things from him... the inconsequential sideline pass in particular.
But I'm not sure I would take that trade straight up with this little information. This is the first game film anyone has on the guy.
He could very well throw 4 picks next week and everyone will be scratching their heads.
Campbell is a top 16 QB, IMO... there are 16 teams that would be happy with that right now. Plus, above all, there are no better short term fixes.
Vince Young would be a downgrade, and he's prolly the cream of the crop in available QBs next year... unless we want to do a trade for McNabb... which might not be an upgrade either.
I agree the Indy game is winnable and the "KC" game as well if we limit our mistakes..."Jacks" made 2 "TO"s and Indy took advantage as they can...The 3 "TO"s we had today will kill us next week against a much better team...
The other big issue is 3rd dns where we were terrible today...18% is just NOT sufficient at all against a team like Indy...
As you already noted we dug a hole in the 1st half...If we do that next week we are dead...We don't have a come back from behind "QB" on the roster...
It's really a matter of who shows up and who doesn't at "QB"...I don't know who plays against Indy...The "JC" we saw the past 2 weeks or the "JustCrap" that showed up today....That's an unpredictable mystery to say the least...
As far as the help "Lot's Of Luck"...Sorry but I just don't see it happening...Tenn maybe if they can get their pressure on Matt and knock him down but Cinn/Den against "SD"....NO CHANCE...
PantyRaider...But I Will Take It If It Happens!!!/_
>>>> We need help from Tenn (vs KC) and Cincy (vs SD) this upcoming Sunday plus an upset win over Indy. Sounds improbable but nevertheless, a possibility ... >>>
Rams and SF didn't help us out... but could be two of the worst teams in the NFL yet.
Tenn and Cinci? Might be slightly better... what a glorious last weekend would it be if both KC and SD lost, and the Raiders won???
First off Vince never had any problems as a "HeadCase" coming out of college...
2nd Fisher has had several altercations with his players in the past just like the "Rat"/Gruden/Shell/Shoty/Ditka/Buddy and others....So I just don't make as big an issue about players who have issues with those "HC"s anymore....
As far as talent...
Better arm Better legs Better rate 98 "PB"er last season Emotional leader Players respond
The knocks have been...
Lazy preparation Issues with Fisher
Well we certainly have the lazy preparation with "JC" if he didn't think to learn the "WR" routs until after the Bye...
I just can't see it as not being an up-grade...
As far as the top 16 "QB" I don't get that either...Our passing game is at #24...Last week when I looked "JC" was the #23 "QB" of all active excluding those on the "IR" like "VY"....He was 28 in "YPG"....
I really hope we go after a vet "QB" in the off season more than any other positions on the team...
Yes we have needs at "WR"/"OL"/ CB" but the "QB" is really the one who makes it all happen...
I looked at that crap article and the comments....NOT much Meat-n-Potatoes there at all...
Well at least he admitted "VY" wins games and just look at what happened when he went down...Tenn imploded...Also players were NOT happy with Fisher and neither is the owner...That's why Fisher is on the short leash now...
If run he will land another job but he is also a known "HeadCase"...
Can't You Give Me Something Substantial!!....
Hell with "JePurple" there was that "Drank"....
Colpepper had his "LoveBoat" and small hands...
"DumbBen" crashes motorcycles and rapes chicks...
Farve was a drunk and pervert....
Now how is "VY" a "HeadCase"...I know he was upset with Tenn's Fisher and threw his uniform into the stands on his way off the field...Like he said I quit after a season ending hand injury where he wanted to tape it and play...
PantyRaider....Hell Now That's Allot Of Emotion -n- Heart!!!/_
Panty... unless Cable gets fired, there is a ZERO chance that they bring in a guy with any kind of reputation as QB. There has not been a single FA player brought in like that since Cable took over... plus the JaMoney situation is still fresh... so I really don't see the value in arguing over something that is never going to happen in a zillion years.
"The guy is so spurty it makes me sick...Every time he gets his hands on the ball I have NO idea if he is going to make a play for us or against us helping the other team..." P.R.
-Anybody remember a guy named Plunkett?? Could have been the most wildly inconsistent guy ever to play the position. Won 2 S.B. though.
Campbell has proven himself to be adequate. Sure, he had a couple throws yesterday that were behind his rec or to the wrong shoulder but, as CJ said, bad weather was a factor.
Based on Campbell's performances in three bad weather games, we can conclude he's NOT a mudder. He's been effective nonetheless.
I lobbied for Gradkowski, but Campbell is far more durable and has performed well. The Raiders just need to protect him and he can be very effective.
Note on D: Man coverage is why we sometimes give up big runs. Man coverage is slow to react (DBs don't disengage fast enough). That's why a guy like Tebow can be 20 yards downfield before anyone even touches him.
On the other hand, press man coverage may be the only way to beat Peyton Manning. We need to disrupt their offensive timing. Tight press coverage and intense pass rush. Otherwise, Manning can destroy a blitzing team with his quick release. Also, you have to disguise your D. Manning calls his play at the line after he reads the D formation. The guy might be the smartest QB to ever play the game.
Pretty close to the way I looked at it. The Thumbtacks actually looked pretty good. They whipped up on the Texicans and their defense is finally playing better. They are still in the hunt as we are. We can do each other a favor next Sunday. They can beat the Chefs in the early game and we can knock off the Ponies in the late game. The kink in that plan is Jax is hosting D. C.
Panty,
Let me think about this. Campbell has a 69 rating, Tebow has 100.5. We win, they lose. I’ll take the “we win” scenario every week. A fabulous quarterback rating in a loss doesn’t get you squat.
Besides, in the rating scheme TD’s are rewarded (as they should be) and interceptions are punished (once again as they should be). Campbell had a TD taken away by the refs, and on the next play came the interception. That’s where his rating took the biggest hit. The refs don’t make that bad call, he’s pushing 100.
Campbell completed 58% of his passes for 238 and a TD while having a TD and about 30 yards taken away. The fantabulous Tebow completed a total of 8 passes for 138, only 50% and one of his TD’s was pretty much a lucky catch. It was two inches from being tipped away. Quarterback ratings can be very misleading. Campbell’s season long rating is 83 which is fairly decent.
Oh yeah. Campbell’s rating against Jax was 127 and we lost.
Also, Stabler and Lamonica head cases? They might have been slightly insane, which makes a good Raider, but they were team first guys. Vince Young has not shown that quality. It took a felony conviction and prison time for Michael Vick to come around. He was a total head case and locker room disruption in Atlanta.
I’m really more worried right now about Richard Seymour’s hamstring than I am about Campbell’s quarterback rating. He had to leave the game and we got Manning coming to town.
Couldn't disagree more with Panty regarding Campbell. While I warned against a QB controversy early on, the situation seems to have had the effect of focusing Campbell. Also, I'd argue a QB who can come back with a winning performance in the 2nd half after a shaky 1st half is exactly what we've been looking for. It's not how you start, but how you finish (exactly what Cable has been preaching.
Campbell will be fine. We DO NOT need to play the QB lottery again.
I've stated over and over that I think an owner's responsibility is to make sure that the fans can view a team in contention through the last home game of the season.
Davis will have failed that for an eighth consecutive year if KC beats Tenn on Sunday morning. The Raiders will fall out of contention before kickoff in Oakland.
However:
1st time in seven years to not have double digit defeats.
Possible over the next two games:
1st time in seven years to not have a losing record.
1st time in seven years to have a winning record.
Our destiny this year, I think, is to knock KC out of the playoffs, the same way we did in 1999.
So party like it's 1999, and dream of a 2000 like AFC Championship run.
>>>> On the other hand, press man coverage may be the only way to beat Peyton Manning. We need to disrupt their offensive timing. >>>>>
After Manning struggled almost throughout the entire game a few years ago... he even admitted that he doesn't play against man coverage very often, which makes it hard for him.
He also struggled about 5 years ago against the Raiders when a very crappy team came from behind to beat them.
Plus Indy stinks at run defense... 28th in the league... almost as bad as Denver!
>>>> Campbell will be fine. We DO NOT need to play the QB lottery again. >>>>
It wouldn't bother me to draft a project QB to play behind him for a few years.
One thing going for Cable/Jackson is that if Al is sold that Campbell is the next Plunkett and he continues to improve the next two games... I don't see Al wanting to make any changes. Thats the thing that has hounded Campbell his entire career... new offenses and OCs every year.
Tebow was a high risk pick at 17. He has the heart of Rudy, but may never be a quality NFL QB.
Campbell is a 10x better passer (based on what I saw from Tebow Sunday). If you're not sure of Campbell's heart, think of the hits he took in the last two games after which he came right back in and kept playing to win.
I think Campbell has earned a lot of respect since his shaky start this season.
Raiders primary off-season focus should b O-line; namely, the entire right side.
Someone should explain to that "NetScum" Crier in disguise that this board is under "Martial Law" so Maintain Radio Silence and Observe the Cease Fire BITCH!!!...
Nothing like a coward hiding in Anonymity thinking no one will know to unveil himself as the original "FaidaBoy" "NetScum" LowLife Ignorant LIAR that he is!!!!.... ---------------------------------
Well...Seems I'm viewing things threw clouded lenses according to most on this board....
"H" threw in some very good points...The 2nd Int never happened if the "Zebra"s hadn't called back that "TD" "JC" threw...
OK!...I concede that one....
One (Neg) removed and one (Pos) added...
Gotta admit though that low pass directly to the "DL" was pretty damn stupid by any measured imagination...
Slow Low Ball was easy to catch too...
But so was that stupid pitch on the revers in the "MudBowl"....
Remarkable...2 games left he needs 300yds...7 TDs -n- 8 Ints...9 Sks -117yds....1 TD rushing but already has too many attempts and too many yds....
Well...It's also true that Plunkett was already on the roster for 2 seasons so understood the "O" before he started...Well...The point is made that he is improving and he may be better next season...
RetroSpect....I mean this team is really Retro back to 1980...It's almost like by divine plan...I mean did Al Davis look back in time and reconstruct his favorite team or what..."TE"s..."RB"s..."WR"s still developing...WoW!....I mean this is for real....
Now do I have to admit the "OldMan" has great vision and could see Jim Plunket reincarnated in "JC"...
Well...OK than...Ya got's me...
Damn...Now I have to start liking that guy...
I admit he did bring us back...I also admit he did play well the last 2 weeks even though we lost...
BUT...
He still scars me...I just don't know which one is going to show up...Maybe the inconsistency will diminish as he gets better acquainted with the "OC"/players and doesn't have to go threw constant changes...
I would still go after an additional "QB" though....I'm still pimping a vet "QB" if available and I still like "VY"...
One thing of note here regarding "JC"...He has taken too many head hits...Now a small hit is sending him to the turf....Those things are cumulative...They just keep building up...His body may be durable but I fear his head/neck is not...
PantyRaider....NO More "JustCrap"....But I May Be Tempted!!!/_
Oakland outscored Denver 22-6, outgained them 243-73, crushed the Broncos running game, giving up 17 yards on 15 carries, and even got a safety when Quentin Groves dumped Correll Buckhalter in the end zone one play after Lance Ball was stuffed for a 4-yard loss by Tommy Kelly and Lamarr Houston.
Evidently Tom "JawBone" Cable went NUTs and they responded...
He wanted us to go out there in the second half and step on their necks.’’
“Get off your ass and play. Take advantage of what you got. You know this team. They’re going to give you an opportunity to put them away. Put them away. Step on their throat. He just kept saying it over and over again. Step on their throat.’’
This from "D-Mac"...But some don't think blocking has any value...
I have to commend the offensive line for doing a great job all year and the receivers are doing a great job of blocking.’’
This is what I warned about...Risk here is very high...
Campbell left briefly after being hit and having his stinger act up but returned.
This can't be taken lightly...These things build up and can become very dangerous...
This is interesting...Recognition skills put to work...
Groves said his safety came at least partially as a result of the Raiders realizing the Broncos had no intention of letting Tebow throw out of his own end zone. Kelly said the Broncos linemen were in a stance that tipped run.

I suspect we may go after vet help rather than high rd draft picks...There appears to be several available this off season and we are looking primarily for the "RT" but maybe one who can play both sides for security reasons...

They seem somewhat happy with the "C" at the moment but I still feel it's a need position...Depth at the least....Maybe a developmental player who they feel can take over later...

Nice to see the Raiders win a game they are SUPPOSE to win. Hell, its nice for the Raiders to be PLAYING in games they are suppose to win.
As for Tebow, he clearly has a lot of heart but I'm just not buying him as an every day starting quarterback in the NFL. The gameplan they created for him was very similar to what he used to do in Florida and if they plan on having him execute the run option 10 times a game like they did yesterday his career is going to last about 6 weeks. I don't think its wise to GAMEPLAN to have your quarterback hit a bunch of times, but thats just me. That Touchdown pass was, most likely literally in Tebow's case, a gift from god. That's the only way to explain that ball going in between Routt's arms like that. So, good luck with that Denver.
Playoffs or not, 6-0 in the division would be HUGE. Here's to respectability!
What is your case for Vince Young. He's been in the league since '06 and has done basically not much. 42 TD's 42 INT's and a career rating of 75.
He has missed significant parts of every season either due to performance or injury. Injury to start last year, injury to end this year. All this on a team that has been pretty stable.
Campbell has been in the league one year longer, has provven to be pretty durable, has 84 TD's to 66 INT's and a career rating of 82. All this with almost zero stability on the teams he's played with.
Campbell has the better attitued also.
I just don't see the attraction of Vince Young.
Now, on the 42 yard run by Tebow. The defense adjusted and he was fairly well contained after that, including two sacks.
A look back at "VY"s Rate and you should notice he has steadily improved from the low 60's to the high 90's...98 this season...Last season as a "PB"er he had the 82 rate...He has still improved on that which to me is a very positive indicator...
Also he has maintained an approximate 60% pass completion ave threw out the past 4 seasons...That's also a very positive indicator...
He is a very good runner but has settled down and stayed behind the line more often now while looking for his receivers...Thus his rushing yds have steadily declined but he keeps plays alive with his feet and the threat of the run...
Like Vick he would be a great fit in our run 1st "O" with the options of dumping off to the "TE"s -n- "RB"s but he also has the arm to get the ball down field to the "WR"s more frequently...
Vick would be my 1st choice but I don't feel he will come available...Philly would be extremely stupid to let him go..."VY" has gotten himself in an expendable situation due to the clashes with Fisher so may be on the trade block...He is a "FA" 2012 so they may feel with only one season left it's best to get something for him now because he won't want to come back and will prolley hold out later...

PantyRaider...I Would Go After "VY" Even While Keeping "JC"!!!!/_
"VY" is the type of player Al Davis craves and was very high on him coming out....I doubt he has forgotten that interest now...
I have to agree...Tebow wont last long but his emotion was exciting even if it was against the Raiders....And his Luck was the case early on...Also the holding that was allowed on his long "TD" run...
They said yesterday NO team has ever won every game in their div and failed to make the "PO"s....So the Raiders may be the 1st again...
H - We've both been saying O-line for some time, but there was a time that I was criticized here for that point of view. Just a couple years ago, I wanted Monroe (or Oher), and lobbied hard for that. Instead..., well, we won't go there.
IMO, Raiders got lucky with Veldheer. I would bet he's better than the Raiders expected.
Bruce Campbell is still a project... a worth while one, but they need serious help on the line. Walker and Carlisle are done after this year.
And, yes, center could use an upgrade... he's the anchor.
The team brought him in prior to the draft and Cable knows the "OL"...I believe he's the only "OL" prospect that was brought in...I would imagine they pretty much knew exactly what he was and where he would go so made their plans for the 3rd rd...
That showed insight NOT luck..
Same with drafting Houston as "DE" instead of as listed at "DT"...
PantyRaider....The "OldMan"s Incite Is Still Intact!!!!/_
For as much as I disagreed with keeping Schilens this year (due to injury), the Raiders have little cost or risk in bringing him back. From the 3 you mention, Schilens has the by far the most potential to be an NFL player.
Miller, IMO, is a decent return man and should remain until we find a better option.
Higgins has overstayed his usefulness.
Honestly, do any of us believe the Raiders will do anything different at WR next year?
PR -
Hillsdale College is not the kind of college that any team can project NFL talent. Veldheer may be their first-ever NFL draft pick (I don't know). So, I would guess there's a bit of luck involved in him becoming the Raiders starting LT in his rookie season.
If you are going to make commentaries that make sense and that are going to bring some type of knowledge I will respet you and will hear your point of view but if you are going to be dumb and start justcrap for no reason I will get on your ass.
Campbell is by no means in my eyes our QB, but he's the only one we have, I like the fact that he has proven to us that he has a heart and has shown us leadership abilities, in the first game of the season I was so upset at the fact that he was the starter that I promissed that I wasn't going to watch any games, but looking at him now I give him all the props in the world because he started learning our offense and when they sat him down he didn't complained, he kept working and has proven to me that he can handle it, again he is not "in my eyes" the guy that's going to take us to the promissed land but at least he has giving us HOPE.
I was so tired of the JRUSSELLS and the ZAPPS and the MOSS at least now it seems to me that my team is going in the right direcction and next year I CAN HOPE FOR A PLAYOFF SPOT.
Warren Zapp complaints that we didn't have any leadership, well that's the reason why he was brought in.....look at Seymour, he goes about his business and people just love him.
H, I agree that we need some O-line depth, but we're doing pretty damn well this season. Sacks are way down, and rushing yards are way up.
Assuming Cable is here in '11 (and that would be an assumption right now), he's got Campbell slated for RG and Henderson slated for RT. I think we should focus on C.
Our current defensive backfield gives us plenty of room for options during the off season. As I see it, Huff could be moved to CB, Branch could be moved to FS and Mitchell could be moved to SS. I think that would actually be a better backfield than we have right now.
I also don't think it would hurt us to get a veteran WR. It doesn't have to be a star. It could merely be a guy who has survived in the league for years. I just think the WR corps needs a bit of professional focus, and that might deliver it.
As for Cable, I think we need him for at least one more year as HC with Jackson in waiting. When Cable has finished his work, I say move him to GM. Why? We had the best off season this year of ANY I can ever remember. Look back at the success of what we added this last off season.
You need to take some positive pills, my brother was just like you at the beginning of the season and ever since he started taking them he doesnt get all worked up with all the negativity.
They sell them in Cherry and Orange flavor and they only cost .50 cents a piece at Walmart.
Few things I don't see here that I complain about with "JC"....
Hesitation...OK Jim knew the "O" coming in but he was decisive...He didn't hesitate to get the ball down field the way "JC" does...
Command of the pocket/game....Plunket was the leader of that team...I don't see that element yet with "JC"....Where is the emotion....Where is the command...Where is the hurry up when it needs to be there....Too slow....
Plunket could put the ball in there...He did it...I only see that very occasionally with "JC"....
Also of note:
Matt Milan was a rookie "MLB"...Now we have "DeathRo"...Matt was the leader of that "D" as a rookie..."DeathRo" is that man today....
If there is any way in hell that both "SD" -n- "KC" stumble and let us in the "PO"s this season it would be just great...Spectacular...A small step towards being really "Retro" for our Raiders and the team Mr Davis has reconstructed for us today....

"I also don't think it would hurt us to get a veteran WR. It doesn't have to be a star. It could merely be a guy who has survived in the league for years. I just think the WR corps needs a bit of professional focus, and that might deliver it."
Have the seas parted without me knowing?
Ironically, we need vet WR help less now than before (last 2 years), as our young WRs are actually coming into their own (namely, Murphy and Ford).
IMO, depending exclusively on Bruce Campbell and Mario Henderson to fill the ride side of the O-line next year would be a huge mistake. Neither player has proven anything (except that Henderson has shown what he can't do). You look for and acquire top available players at these positions and let them all fight it out for starting slots.
Well, notice I didn't say he had to be a star player. I'm only looking for someone to stabilize the unit. Also, I think at the end of the day, Murphy is a slot receiver.
While many here have complained that DHB has the dropsies, I haven't seen it. The balls I've seen him miss (with one or two exceptions) were very tough catches. What I have seen is they don't throw to him much.
According to Cable and Jackson, that's by design. And whether or not he's ever established himself as a threat, he DOES seem to clear out areas for the underneath guys (and then winds up blocking for them down field).
When they do go to him, he has 100 yard games. So DHB will remain somewhat of a question mark going into 2011. Whether DHB is a really good receiver or a really bad receiver is the best kept secret in the NFL.
I think we'll have to give up the ghost on Schilens.
What the hell was your point about being on my damn ass...Where the hell is the intelligence your pimping...You just said what I have been saying for some time now...So you re-word it...Now is that all you got!!!...

When Langston went down it was Barnes who replaced him...So so with that...We need new help on the right side....
Huff as "CB" might work...Not sure...He got burned bad last week playing the corner in a 5 "S" set...With a whole camp at "CB" he might make the transformation but it appears several vets may be available so I think we look for help there...
You and I agree on Cable moving up...He has a good trusted relationship with Mr Davis and want's to learn that side...At the same time he is the driving force that's making the good changes in our player attitudes...Re-instilling the will to win...
Last week when "DHB" was thrown to for the 3rd time he was drawing the double coverage tight...Than afterward he continued to get their attention because they fear the big play....
This week he gets one catch for 20 yds and than they have to pay attention to him....
Don't suppose the doubters saw how Murphy was blocking down field on the long "D-Mac" play that almost scored...That block added at least 5yds to the play....Maybe more...
They forget last season the "FA" list was almost void of quality "WR"s...They think we were suppose to play god and reconstruct one from some broken rib or something...
This season that does not appear to be the case...When I looked there are several "WR" contracts that will terminate in January...3 on the Chargers I believe....

"Well, notice I didn't say he had to be a star player. I'm only looking for someone to stabilize the unit."
Others may have, but I never said anything about adding a "star" WR, just a serviceable vet.
And DHB has been better this year at catching the ball. IMO, his problems also stem from his inability to gain separation on routes and lack of QB confidence which doesn't get him many opportunities.
He's a fixture on the roster, so hopefully he will get better.
Hell Otis Sistruk never played college ball...So he was assigned the "University of Mars" due to his appearance...
My old school in Logan Utah turned out 5 NFL players in the draft class of "80" while I was there...USU was a small program that few hear of...Less than 9,000 students and were about to be eliminated from the sport because they didn't have a big enough stadium...Like a HS Program...

I posted it was Barns who replaced Langston at "RT"....I saw his name in the game so maybe he was playing another position...It was "StupidMario" as "BR" noted...
Everything you said about Vince Young can be said about Jason Campbell, including the running. In fact, he’s taking off a bit more lately. And, he improved every year in the league. With only one year difference in the league Campbell’s numbers are a good bit better than Young’s.
NYRaider,
I hear ya. I wanted Oher also. Also, Vlad is Hillsdale’s second draft pick I think. Or maybe their second NFL player.
Blanda,
Depth is one thing on the line. But, we still have trouble with those teams that pressure up the middle like the Squealers and the Whiners. We also get way more yardage to the left than the right. It would be a real boon if we could get some balance to the right. The right side of the OL is the weakest part of the team.
I think "VJ" will be a free agent because "SD" already knows what it's like to try to negotiate with the guy after his long hold-out this season...The "FT" is just NOT going to be an option and they can't trade what they don't own...
They also have to deal with the rest of their "WR"s too...3 is way too many to hope to sign them all...
Malcom Floyd has been their #1 producer this season with only 35 rec/660yds...
Legedu Naanee has half that at 15/233yds...
Both will be "FA"s this off-season...
Aside from them Patrick Crayton has 28 rec and Buster Davis 21....They will prolley daft a "WR" in the 1st rd....
I would go after "VJ" very aggressively...At 6'5" 230#s he is the type of "WR" we need...27yrs old...6th season..."PB"er...
I would also go after Plaxico "GunDumb" Burris who will come cheap as a "JailBird"...He is the same size but older...Should be free by May...
6'5" 232#s 33yrs....
Than we are really set at "WR"...
As already suggested let Chaz/Miller/"JLH" go....
How would this look in 2011:
Vincent Jackson 6'5" Murphy 6'2" "DHB" 6'2" Jacoby Ford 5'9" Plaxaco "GunDumb" Burris 6'5"
All with enough experience to be dependable "WR"s supplementing:
Zack "D-Mac" Reece Bush
Suddenly there aren't enough footballs to go around...Now wouldn't that be a nice problem for a change....
Now what kind of fits will the "D"s go threw trying to shut this down...Who will they double....
"JC" improved some from 76 to 86 rate but that's been his highest...He has now fallen to an 83 which is about his average....
He ran 46/47 times the last 2 seasons in "DC"...He's up to 40 now with 2 games left....He fumbles twice as much as "VY"...He has taken way more sacks consistently....
OK...We have "JC" on the team and he will prolley remain...We can't go into the season with one "QB" and "Ski" can't stay healthy or produce well enough in this "O"...Kile is NOT an option and neither is Frye...
I like Colt Brennen as a developmental "QB"...Maybe another draft pick is a good fit...
Who do we go after as the vet that backs up "JC"...
I'm pimping "VY"....
If "JC" goes down or is inadequate we have his replacement already on the roster and keep on trucking....
This is kinda funny but who on this list doesn't turn your stomach...
Projected "FA" "QB"s 2011:

It's hard to say Campbell fumbles more than Vence Young. Look at how many more snaps he's taken.
Young can't get through a season and it's a pretty good bet that the Thumbtacks have a better OL than we do.
You talk about the rating, well since the Whiner game Campbell's average rating is about 94 with way more pass attemps than Young. But more than that we are 5-2 with him in the game since then.
We have also scored 28 or more points five of seven games since then with him in the game.
In one of Young's best "rated" games, about 142 he only had five pass attemps. Kerry Collins came into that game and wen 11 for 16 with a 109 rating. Do you want Collins back?
Young's lowest rated game was against Pittsburgh, a 48. Hell, he got a 124 rating in a game where he completed less that 50% of his passes and they lost.
The numbers Campbell is putting up in his last seven games are ones we can point to with confidence. The combination of Hue Jackson and Jason Campbell are now making a differene after a slow start. Campbell's worse games were when the running game didn't show up. That can be said of 75% of the quarterbacks in the league. Vince Young has Chris Johnson.
In My No Longer Humble Stinking Opinion Campbells numbers are every bit as good, and in some cases better than Young's. And, we have a winning record with him in the game.
You can't just point to a high rating and say he's the guy. You have to take a look at how he got those numbers, what the final results were and how the supporting cast performed also.
Having said all that rambling mismash, as of right now I'm more concerned with Seymour's hammy and Nnamdi's ankle with Peyton and his Ponies coming to town than I am with spinning the Wheel of Fortune for a quarterback. Especially with the way Campbell is now performing and the amount of money Young thinks he's worth.
Let's spend that money on the OL. It would be very interesting to see what Campbell could do with a first class Ol in front of him.
H - no argument from me. Campbell has been mostly effective since his early season benching.
Besides, most of us know that stats can be very misleading.
For example, one report I read today stated that Routt has one of the best rankings among CBs relative to percentage of pass completions. The author also pointed out that Routt was directly responsible for 10 points in the Denver game, including penalties and completions against him. The whiff in the endzone stands out in my mind.
Yeah, also that stupid call would add four points to his season rating also. I'm more interested in the point differential at the end of the game.
You see there's no parameter in the QB rating that considers interceptions that are tipped or mishandled by the receiver.
Not every interception is the quarterback's fault, and not every TD is the result of a perfectly thrown pass.
Also, on the wiff in the end zone. I'll look at it again tonight, but according to the replay facility in my brain it appears Routt was going for an interception. That was a bad decision. He should have gone for the knockdown. I was a very difficult interception.
You as usual have reasons for your opinions which is good...I hate the "BS" just because I said it stuff and you have convinced me to back off on the "JustCrap" bashing...Although it may still come to mind when I see him play like he has...So with that out of the way lets proceed....
One substantial argument in favor of "VY"...Week #1 and how much fits he gave our "D" trying to defend against him...
13/17 254yds 2 TDs Passing 7/30yds Rushing one for 20yds Rate 142.8...
As I remember aside from the 1st 2 weeks out of the bye when our "O" just sucked "VY" slapped our asses and made it hurt...We wanted to contain Johnson but "VY"s mobility and improvisation made that a very difficult task to the tune of...
27/142yds 2 TDs 4/8yds receiving
Accounting for 150yds against our "D" which was just NOT that bad but we certainly looked the part...
Had we not had to contend with "VY"s mobility and improvisation we may have played much better against that "RB"...
We got to "VY" for 2 sacks and a fumble but that was not enough to take him out of his game....
The rest of the year...
Pitts...7/10 66yds 2 Ints 2 Sacks 2 Fum Rate 48.3
NYG...10/16 118yds TD Sack Rate 105
Denver...17/28 173yds TD 2 Sack Rate 90.3
Dallas....12/25 173yds 2 TDs 3 Sacks Rate 97.6
2 weeks injured
SD...10/21 253yds 2 TDs Rate 123.7
Miami...9/18 92yds TD Int 2 Sacks Rate 64.4
Wash...12/16 165yds Sack 107.6
Those are basic "JC" type #'s and he also performed well in the games where the run was working but not well in the games where the run failed...
Looks to me that all things considered we could substitute the 2 of them at will and keep on trucking...I can't imagine a reason not to have 2 starting "QB"s that are equally capable of running your "O" except for the fear of "Mediot" abuse as they try to depict a contentious picture...
Well now it appears that according to the coaches and the "Mediot"s who have pimped him to no end the little losing Tibow has proven himself and earned a 2nd go against Houston with a "QB" rate of 120 against us...
Funny...So here's rootin for the Donkey Filly to develop quickly and kick some Charger Ass in two weeks at home....

After all they went threw as a "RFA" I doubt they want to waste their "FT" on him too....Not unless they be real stupid down south around the border...But than anything is possible with a team that runs "Shotty"s HateTrip in favor of "Turnerites"...
If you want him ...here he is come and get him but ya better hurry cause he's going fast
"VY" won't come for nothing...He ain't Free $$$$...
It may coast us a pick or a player and a $$$ contract....He has one yr remaining on his rookie contract as the 2nd player taken in that draft class....
The good thing about it is Al's the one who get's to evaluate that value and I like how he does business....If he feels it helps his team win he pulls that trigger...It was heavily reported he liked "VY" coming out so maybe he still does and he loves picking up 1st rd players who others couldn't get what they wanted out of...He loves to prove them wrong...
Thus this season "JC"/Jarvis Moss/John Henderson/Kamerion Wimbley....Did I miss someone...
Last season Al added Seymour too...

COMMENT: If the Raiders, who are 5-0 in the AFC West, can somehow end up in a tie for the division lead, they would win it. They have a chance.
So, you are suggesting that we give up the store and possibly picks to go after Vince Young.
A quarterback, that has a questionable attitude, completes on average 10-11 passes a game, can't make it through a season (he missed 13 games one year, about half the season last year and seven this year when all is said and done.)
Also, he has yet to show he can put the team on his shoulders and carry them to a win.
The Thumbtacks keep running Kerry Collins (a guy pushing 40) in there for a reason. Hell, they even brought No-Moss in for him to throw to.
So, we spend all that money and picks to bring Young in and stay with the right side of the OL. He'll be on injured reserve before the third game is over.
We need a few more gems on the OL like Vlad more than we need Vince Young.
If he gets released and they want to bring him in for a look-see. Yeah, go for it. But, as far as NFL quarterbacks go he has shown very little. Especially for a guy taken in the top five. We've been there, done that.
On your list of first rounders we've picked up, excipt for Jarvis Moss, they have all had servicable careers thus far. Moss basically came free as did Henderson.
With what Campbell has done on a new team, new OC (his ninth in ten years), a young team. I just don't see us trying to replace him. He's earned his shot. Get him a few more tools to work with.
Unbelievable. We have the best QB we've had in here since Gannon and folks want to nit pick.
Point One - It takes time for a QB to meld with his team. Forget the Vikes and Favre last season. Farve has twenty years experience. We don't want a QB with twenty years of experience.
Point Two - Campbell has consistently been getting better while he's been here. You're not going to run up a 100 plus QB rating every Sunday.
Point Three - Vince Young? Really? Common, Panty. He's a joke. He's had one good season and a couple of good games, and you want him to come here and start his career all over again. We're way past VY with Campbell, so let's start moving forward instead of backing up.
And, Panty, you're wrong about the replacement for Walker on Sunday. It was Henderson, not Pears. Cable said he thought Henderson played extremely well over on the right side. He will be our RT going forward. Campbell will be the RG next season, and we need to focus on a new center.
H, the pressure up the center of the line comes from the weakness of Santele and a barely serviceable Carlisle. Cable seems to feel that Campbell is the answer at RG, but he still needs some training.
Additionally, over the years, I've felt that the best O-lines come from guys that have been playing together for awhile. If we're able, I'd prefer to see us go forward with the guys that we have, and bring up some youth behind them.
By the way. I was as down as anyone on Campbell after the first two games. But, it kept bugging me that he had decent numbers in D.C. Even though the D.C. fan base wanted him gone and were blaming him for their woes.
Now, since they are down to Rex Grossman, and Campbell has turned it around from a shaky start, Campbell may indeed be the new Plunkett.
D.C. may be so far gone even the sainted Shanarat can't fix things.
Look at the numbers Campbell had there and what McNabb is doing with basically the same team.
He may not exceed McNabb's total yardage with us, due to sitting a few games and us running more, but all his other measurables will be better than McNabbs. This will include the top measurable, wins.
Ok, it's basically announced that Henderson will be the RT this Sunday.
He actually played reasonably well last Sunday, but the Geldings don't generate much of a pass rush.
Indy doesn't either only 26 on the year. We're sitting at 40.
Here's a stat that's both good an bad. Janakowski has hit on 11 of 12 field goals from 30-39 yards. Good percentage. But, the lone miss was against AZ.
I guess I can't be too upset with the guy, he was clutch against the Chefs.
Here's basically the way I see the Henderson issue.
When Jason Campbell came aboard Henderson's first comment was that what most impressed him about Campbell was that if the play called for a three step drop, he took three steps. If it called for a five step drop, he took five steps. That's the first concern of someone who is focused on the QB's location rather than the guy in front of him. In that Mario learned his position during the erratic play of JRuss, that's easy to understand that "misdevelopment."
But Henderson needs to keep his mind on the guy in front of him (which is why he's fine on running plays, but not so much on QB protection).
Away from the QB's blind side, that won't be as much of a concern for Henderson, and I think he'll fold into that position nicely.
I already corrected myself on the "StupidMario" post...I saw Barns in the game and thought he was playing "RT"....Not sure now where he was lining up....
"H"-n-"BR"...Re: "VY"...
It's true I like him but it goes far beyond just that...I'm posting what I think the "OldMan" will want to do -n- why...The bottom line is he helps his team win games...
On to other maters...
"JC"...Yes "BR" he is undoubtedly the best "QB" we have had here in years...I give him that...But he is also the reason we lost a few games early on simply because he didn't prepare enough for the battle...Now he has been improving but come on how do you excuse this crap....
Paraphrase:
"Maybe I should have memorized the "WR" routs so I will do that now"
At the Bye week for crying out loud...
I'm sorry but I won't forget that we could have been in this thing had our "QB" been paying more attention early on....Your right about the early games and your right about the improvement simply because if he had done the right things during camp he may NOT have had so much room to improve...
So maybe the course load was just too much for him all at once...Whatever the case it cost us and we can't make up that ground now without allot of help...
"Jano" cost us but also paid us so much for that...But his paying us was what he was suppose to do with that powerful leg of his...The one that cost us should have been automatic but than nothing is really on "Auto" in football....I hate it but I won't bash him for it...But that miss knocks us out of contention in the end and that really sucks...
The "OL" is another issue...There is no need to neglect it while going after other needs at "QB"-n-"WR"....This is going to be a very deep "FA" market it appears...Last year was thin to say the least...Some top talent will go very early and expensive...I would expect "SD"s "VJ" to be in that list and the only one we go after...
The 2nd tear will have some good "OT"s who could play the right side and "C"s...
"VY" will be a trade issue and prolley not until draft time like "JC"....He will NOT merit a 1st or 2nd rd pick...I suspect a trade on day 2 of the draft...Wait-n-See but that's my projection for this off season....

Indianapolis Colts receiver Austin Collie(notes) is done for the season after he suffered a concussion Sunday against Jacksonville.
Collie was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.
Despite missing five games and more than a half in three others, Collie leads all Indy receivers with eight touchdown catches, is second in receptions (58) and third in yards (649).
OK!!!...That's one guy we don't have to be concerned about...
No matter what our final record, on draft day we need to be careful with our picks. The earliest we would be drafting is probably 40.
Based on that I don't see us sending a pick to the Thumbtacks for Young.
Campbell is finally loosening up. One of the new things I see is a three step drop, pump fake then two more steps. If the DL buys the fake he has more time.
I think this season we can have the majority of our basic needs filed thew "FA" before the draft takes place...That would be an optimum situation and allow us to be very flexible and go for the best player available...
As for position I don't expect Al to sit at #40...He will undoubtedly move up somehow...
We also need to hold onto a few players like Bush-n-Zack on the "O"...Seymour/Henderson -n- possibly Eugene on the "D"...
These boyz can all be let go -n- replaced...

Lechler ailing, so Raiders buy insurance punter from UFL
Baugher, who has never played in an NFL game, spent this season with Las Vegas of the UFL. He led the league with a 44.6-yard gross average and 36.7 net.
So maybe another "Gem in the Rough" uncovered by the "OldMan" again...But hate to lose our boy...He has been the man!!!...
As much as Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney would like to take on rookie left tackle Jared Veldheer one-on-one, he’s not counting on it.
“Normally what happens when I go against a rookie is there are two other guys with him,” Freeney told Bay Area reporters by conference call Wednesday. “I’m sure they’re going to scheme and not just leave him by himself. That wouldn’t be too smart.”
With eight sacks and two games to play, Freeney is two shy of his seventh season with double-digit sacks. He has five forced fumbles, giving him 41 for his career.
Freeney and left end Robert Mathis, who has three 10-plus sack seasons, form the NFL’s best outside pass rushing duo. The Raiders will counter with Veldheer at left tackle, either Langston Walker or Mario Henderson at right tackle, and plenty of help from extra lineman Khalif Barnes, tight end Zach Miller and chipping from running backs and fullback Marcel Reece.
So this will be job #1...
The best way to deal with Freeney and Mathis is to simply be effective running the ball, and the Colts’ veteran has a healthy respect for Oakland’s running game.
“They do a lot of different things, a lot of reverses, use their speed to their advantage,” Freeney said. “You can’t book ‘em for just one thing.”

For those who say we are in need of a center (myself included), J-Mac has suggested more than once that Satele has played at a high level the last three weeks, and might be the Raiders best O-lineman during that span.
Henderson has been with the Raiders for several years, and still can't secure and maintain a starter slot. Frankly, there's no reason to think he's more than a serviceable backup T who can play both sides of the line.
Campbell is a project. To annoit him the RG for next year would be a mistake.
The Raiders should look to add quality players to their O-line, under no assumption that anyone has a starting position locked, with the possible exception of Gallery.
Allot has been posted about 1980 -n- 2010 besides being 30 seasons apart...Some speculate that what ever was than has NO baring on what is now and wouldn't work in the modern "Modern Era" of the NFL...I have been one who doesn't buy that and neither it would appear does Mr Davis...

PantyRaider...Just For Fun....Is Al trying To Reconstruct What Was!!!!/_
No doubt Jared Veldheer is also a lock...The only question would be does he stay at "LT" or move to "C"...For my $$$$ I would bet he stays put at "LT"....
Lets see how well he plays against Dwight Sweeney....This could be fun...
There is really very little hope Cinn can help us against "SD"..."TO" is OUT on the "IR" and now this...
Ochocinco said he has bone spurs in his left ankle, and a piece broke loose before becoming lodged in one spot. He said he'll have surgery during the offseason.
"I'm messed up bad right now, my ankle's killing me."
Meanwhile everything is breaking down between the "HC" and the team...Ocho may not even play this week...
Who the hell really knows but it don't look good for us...The last hope is in the "MuleValley" with the rookie Tebow at "QB" on another team that's in the "MeltDown" phase....
Now all heads turn toward the new "HC" hunt demanding it be someone who believes in Tebow and is willing to design a gameplan around him....
Well there is some good news in all this...It may very well stymie the "Donko"s for some time to come and give us 2 easy wins per season...
The bad will be if Fisher gets run in Tenn and ends up in Denver...He is one of the few that would prolley design a game around a "QB" like Tebow...
On Bruce Campbell. Yes, he is a project. But, there are some positives about that.
He has tremendous upside and may be the quickest offensive lineman in the league. He came as a fourth rounder. He came out as a junior. That means he spent his senior year being developed by us.
He did get some very limited game experience, so he might be ready next year. We need a good pulling guard on the right side.
I don't see Mario Henderson being released. We'll see how he does these last two games at RT. He might be more suited over there. He's been a fairly consistant run blocker. His biggest problems was with outside speed rushers.
Satele can play guard and center. If we did bring in a center he should be kept for versatility.
Mario is a "FA" in "11" so we would need to sign him to bring him back...Not sure that happens...Surely not if there is someone available the management likes better...
Satele will also be a "FA"...Good points about his versatility and we do need to have "C" depth...Not sure how the Raiders will move on him but he is prolley more likely to return than Mario I think...
Sometimes I don't understand what Cable likes in a player but than I'm not in the room either....
For those who say we are in need of a center (myself included), J-Mac has suggested more than once that Satele has played at a high level the last three weeks, and might be the Raiders best O-lineman during that span. >>>
Saw that too... which is why I like Jmac so much... how many sports journalists have an eye for frigging o-line performance?
He said his ability to make blocks into the second level was what was springing McF... not something I could identify without purposely looking for in a million years... so I will take his word for it.
The only time most normal people notice an o-lineman is when he commits a penalty or allows a sack.
...also from Jmacs live blogs... said he thought one of the reasons Veldheer has improved so fast is that Gallery took him under his wing... these are intangibles that cannot be discounted with players... would Kelly have had a standout season without playing next to Seymour the last two seasons? I think not... and as Seymour leaves, Kelly can take others under his wings... same as Veldheer.
This is how a true franchise is built... not the St. Gruden model of bringing in veterans and nothing else.
I have very high hopes for the future for many years.
Cable and Al deserve as much credit for this as criticism for the 7 years of suckiness.
Gary - This is how I would dole out the credit or lion's share of credit:
Al - Tremendous draft and shrewd hiring of Hue Jackson
Cable - Has had the team playing with improved focus, effort, and motivation; good off-season to include very important team building. The team chemistry on this team is excellent. Guys genuinely care for each other and play their butts off for each other.
Jackson - Has turned our offense into an explosive, diversified unit. Currently we are ranked #9 in offensive scoring at 25.2 which is MORE than double our output last year.
Rookies - making substantial contributions and noticeable impact (McClain, Houston, Valdheer, Ford front line contributions; Brown providing depth, versatility, and playmaking abilities; Goethel starting to get more reps. and looking good in terms of run D and tackling skills; Ware & McFadden are good potential CBs who got their feet wet; Campbell is a nice RG project)
McFadden - IMO, the MVP on the Raiders
Campbell - Improved play at the QB position has had a tangible difference; showing good toughness and game management abilities
Seymour, Kelly, Houston, Shaunnessey - Major Kudos for providing a top notch pass rush
Asomugha - The best CB in the NFL and a steady, sound leader.
"Cable and Al deserve as much credit for this as criticism for the 7 years of suckiness."
See? That's exactly how it works.
You can't GM and/or coach a team at the bottom of the league for 7 consecutive years without deserving (strong) criticism, just you can't bring that team back to life without deserving recognition.
H -
I never said Campbell wasn’t a good project. The Raiders showed great self control to wait until the 4th rd to draft him. He has tremendous upside, but that doesn’t come without risk. By Cable’s own admission, Campbell’s progress has been slow.
It is possible that next year could be a breakout year for (from left to right) Veldheer, Gallery, Satele, Campbell and Henderson. That would be ideal, and could last for years. We’ll see.
"Cable and Al deserve as much credit for this as criticism for the 7 years of suckiness."
Now, just where does Cable get criticism for the seven years? He's only been with the team the last three.
NYRaider,
Slight misunderstanding. I was agreeing with you and just pointing out the upsides of taking him where we did.
Calico,
I would add the following:
Cable for not allowing the media to drive the debate with the rumors about he and Jackson's relationship. Or, letting the early reports of his demise to affect the progress of the team.
Davis/Cable/Marshall for bringing back Mike Waufle to coach the D-Line. The last time the DL rotation performed this well was not when Sapp was here, but when Waufle was coaching them.
Cable/Jackson for sitting Campbell down early on. I think the guy was pressing too much.
Jason Campbell for not sulking and becoming disinterested like a certain unnamed quarterback who was released last spring.
He's leading by example. Folks are making a big deal over Tebow's 78 yards rushing. Campbell had 41 himself and a ton more passing.
Campbell is also the third leading rusher on the team with 179 yards, most of which has come in the last four weeks.
Coaches/Quarterback/WR's for a steady improvement in the passing game. In the first seven games we averaged 182 per game. In the last seven games it's been 223. That would put us at number 16 for the season instead of 23, or dead last as was last season.
Finally, teams that have been down for a long time, such as we, when they finish the season strong it bodes well for the next season.
So all I have left to say on this post is, GO RAIDERS.
We drafted nine players. All nine made the team. Four became starters (McClain, Houston, Vlad and Ford).
All nine have made positive contributions either as subs, starters or on special teams.
We have also seen significant contributions from second year players (Murphy, Reece and Mitchell).
I'm searching my memory for a time when a Raider team had so many positives come from a collection of young players.
It's as if it was realized we had to rebuild the base of the franchise. Take DHB out of the next sentence for a moment.
The last two drafts have been for solid role and position players and not for flash and show. Even though Ford was the fastest at the combine, he was a football player first. The dividens are starting to show.
>>>> Now, just where does Cable get criticism for the seven years? He's only been with the team the last three. >>>>>
True, but Al deserves credit for sticking with Cable when all he had to hang his hat on was two impressive wins to close out his interim season, and some upsets without JaMoney last year. In any of the other 7 losing seasons, Cable would have been fired.
Cable has slowly and methodically changed the losing culture brick by brick... and Al was the GM that let him do it.
Al also is the person that insisted he bring in a new OC and turn over play-calling duties to him... something that was a stroke of genius.
The team obviously is benefiting from Cable wearing fewer hats.
The drafting has been one of the NFLs best the last two years... even with DHB in the mix.
We brought another QB in off the scrap heap that might work out after the franchise QB we drafted flopped famously (something that would have set most franchises back 5-8 years... look at SF floundering with Alex Smith yet.)
These aren't things that happen haphazardly. I don't see very many IAAFers recognizing any of this... perhaps they aren't convinced what they see on the field is true?
It certainly seems that way with the attendance at the home games... the stadium looked empty at a thrilling (albeit wet) vs the rival Broncos.
What I've said in the past, and I still believe to be true, is that Al had stepped back quite a bit by the time he'd handed the reins to Callahan. But instead of rebuilding the talent, as required, Callahan went about reworking the Gruden offense, losing the trust of players we did have in the process.
I think Turner believed that he just needed Collins, Moss and Jordan to win. And I don't think that Al himself realized that the team needed a complete overhaul until the Shell disaster.
The guiding light of that overhaul was supposed to be Kiffin, with his knowledge of the college talent emerging in the NFL.
By the time Al realized that Kiffin needed a diaper change he handed the keys to Cable. With Cable's two surprising wins at the end of his interim season, he saw that Cable had the ability to turn attitudes around. He also found out that Cable had a pretty decent eye for talent after his first full season.
However, Al continued to stay on top of Cable, understanding his weaknesses and strengths. He told Cable he wanted someone else to call the plays, and Cable suggested Jackson who he'd worked with before.
To me, that's the scenario that continues to make sense out of the last seven years. I never believed that Al had lost it, only that he had put it away for awhile. When he realized that the team needed his full attention, he found the energy and produced.
That's my story, and I'm sticking with it.
At this point I'd give Cable one more season, maybe two, to try and get to the Super Bowl. If he can't, promote him to GM and Jackson to HC. At this point, I don't want to lose either Cable or Jackson, and if Jackson knows he'll be the next HC here, he won't leave.
Cable has turned into a master of dealing with the media through almost any controversy. You never want to lose that, especially with the Raiders.
“Al also is the person that insisted he bring in a new OC and turn over play-calling duties to him... something that was a stroke of genius.”
I wouldn’t necessarily go along with that statement. Everyone in the media is saying Al brought Jackson in without consulting Cable. And, that Al took the play calling away from Cable.
Yet, when Cable assumed play calling from Greg Knapp they were saying it was because Al liked a head coach that called the plays.
They are typing out of both sides of their collective keyboards. If it were true Al wants the HC to call the plays then why not just make Jackson the HC? After all there was no improvement in the team’s record under Cable last year.
Further, Cable and Jackson have a history. They have worked together twice in the past. Maybe it was Cable that recommended Jackson. Therefore he didn’t need to “interview” him.
I figure this is a fair opportunity to take credit for a preseason, bare post draft prediction. I said, at the time, that Veldheer would crack the starting lineup before season's end, and become a mainstay on the O-line. I figured, at the time, that was going to be right or left tackle, but Cable threw a monkey wrench in the works early on by sticking him at Center.
As I said at the time, Veldheer didn't give up ONE SACK through high school or college. He only gave up ONE sack in his entire pre-NFL career, and that was in a post season All Star game.
It doesn't matter that a performance like that is from a Division II school. Pitching a no-hitter at any level is impressive.
blanda, i agree with you to give cable another try mainly for some stability BUT, dudes contract is up. what better reason does davis have now to promote jackson to HC? davis will NEVER give up control to a GM. we all know that so cable being the GM is out.
blanda, i also meant to say that jackson is being rumored for several nfl hc jobs... davis will NOT lose this guy. after all, he turned down the same job in chicago to come here...
This has been the best...Nicest...Most pleasant to read line of thought on this board in quite some time...And I'm NOT going to screw it up either...
Scorpio....
I don't expect Cable to go anywhere unless up as "BR" has noted...Perhaps Hue will get a temporary elevation to "AHCO" (Assistant Head Coach Offense) like was the case in the past and maybe an extended contract offer for his achievements so he ain't leaving...
The damn "Mediot"s post lies trying to undermine the progress but as already noted Cable ain't biting and I doubt Hue will either...
The "Rebuild"...Yes...And now maybe we are at the point of just "Re-Load" Baby!!!...A few key Vets and a few key Picks and we are off -n- running again....
Re: Cable...He is in his dream job....
Unlike Gruden -n- others who used the Raiders as a stepping stone to his grand dreams with majestic heights while making temporary moves to win now at all costs...Cable has made painstakingly slow moves to build a solid foundation on which to build a dynasty as noted by Gary...A dynasty he very much intends to continue to be a part of...
Cable asked Al to teach him the business...Al responded...He gave both his son and Cable the go ahead to assemble a staff...Al than hired Cable's staff and said his son was not yet ready...I believe as does "BR" that ever sense that time Cable has been under Al's wing learning the business in a plan to eventually move up as a trusted associate in some yet unknown capacity..."GM" or what ever...
I believe as has been posted here that Hue was Cable's recommendation....A man he knew he could work with...Al's boy who Cable could not work with was taken out with a right hook...Or what ever broke his jaw bone while reportedly Cable was on top of him growling...

October incident leads to court date for Broncos' Dumervil
Injured Broncos linebacker Elvis Dumervil faces a Jan. 11 court date on charges of disturbing the peace and assault in connection with an incident at an Oct. 24 home game against the Oakland Raiders, The Denver Post reported, citing KDVR-TV.
"It's truly unbelievable, based on these circumstances, that anyone would have to go to court," Steinberg said. "All he was trying to do was go to work."

Our "HC" was a "StrikeBuster" like Howie Long/Bill Pikel -n- "HitMan" Edie Anderson who made the team after his strike performance...
— Cable spent three games in a Colts uniform as an offensive lineman in 1987 when the NFL used replacement players during the strike.
Cable was already starting his coaching career at Idaho but gave it one more shot.
“Most every one of us had been cut prior to that, so that kind of ended your hopes of being a professional football player,’’ Cable said. “The strike gave you one more opportunity.’’
Now we face that possibility again...Hopefully someone gets their heads out of their asses and brings an end to this crap before it's too late....

>>>> At this point, I don't want to lose either Cable or Jackson, and if Jackson knows he'll be the next HC here, he won't leave. >>>>
I also wonder if Jackson has a sense of loyalty that will have him turn down any HC offers? Lets face it... its not like he has a resume that will land him a top-notch franchise... I don't foresee any offers besides a team heading in the OPPOSITE direction as the Raiders... why take that when he knows the Raiders have McFadden and a roster of young talent that may turn into an actual dynasty?
Especially knowing he could become HC here in a year or two if Cable crosses swords with Al?
I see Cable getting at least one more year to build a championship team with Jackson, and if not, Jackson takes over...
>>> Cable has turned into a master of dealing with the media through almost any controversy. You never want to lose that, especially with the Raiders. >>>>
I would like to see the following happen for 2011:
Retain Cable as Head Coach for the 2011 season with a club option for 2012.
Give Jackson a pay raise or sizable bonus for 2011. More importantly, let him know that he is in the team's plans to eventually become Head Coach.
One thing is certain ... Jackson's name will be brought up for most team's with vacancies and he will interview for HC vacancies because of the Rooney Rule and his body of work in 2010.
The Raiders offense went from an anemic unit to currently the #9 ranked scoring unit in the league.
Add to that what Hue did in Bal with a rookie "QB" who was not projected to be much and he is already very well known for his "O" abilities...That's why he is here..
Also for his fire which is what translates well to being a "HC" at some point...
He has NOT been in the shadows and is most certainly NOT in the shadows now...
PantyRaider...We Simply MUST Make A Move To Tie Him Up For Our Future!!!/_
Note: The Rooney Rule is dangerous...If Al allows him to interview to satisfy some teams obligation to that rule he would have played his hand and made him available for hire...NOT acceptable at all...

Payton has been more mistake prone this season than most...Try to get in his head and make him worry...Be disruptive and look for the mistake...
This will NOT be an east one to take away...Even if we gain a lead we can't just sit on it...They are far too dangerous...And we can't afford to be playing from behind...

So get after them on both sides of the ball and be very physical...Make'em pay for every damn inch...Make'em pay until it hurts...
The 3 best ways to disrupt Manning and the Colts passing attack;
(1) Our DTs getting a strong push and providing an interior pressure making it difficult for Manning to step up in the pocket. Our DTs need to get to Manning for sacks, pressures, and batted down balls.
(2) Our CBs jacking up the WRs at the line of scrimmage to disrupt the route and timing. I'm not talking about just sticky M2M coverage but old school "Bump and run".
(3) Last but not least ... keep Manning's rear end firmly planted on the bench while we sustain long, productive drives.
Well "CJ" seems we agree about the approach to "V"...

Now I'm quite sure there are other keys that the coaches and players see that we don't but it will be interesting to see how the Raiders do against this teem....This will be a true gauge of how far we have come as we fight for our lives against another "PO" caliber team fighting for theirs...

The following is NOT a list of Who's-Who amongst NFL "QB"s but that is what we have suffered threw during these past 15 seasons...
Only 2 names equate to winning sense "98"...One to my surprise if he can keep it up tomorrow...
The following 15 players have started at quarterback for the Raiders since Manning joined the Colts: Aaron Brooks, Jason Campbell, Kerry Collins, Daunte Culpepper, Charlie Frye, Rich Gannon, Jeff George, Bruce Gradkowski, Donald Hollas, Josh McCown, Rick Mirer, JaMarcus Russell, Marques Tuiasosopo, Andrew Walter and Wade Wilson.
Damn I sure hope the next 12 season list is better than this one...
#1 at "DC" as previously mentioned...We can do better with this talent on the field....Need to be more aggressive and more creative...Less predictable...Adaptable to each new challenge...
5 Man-Front Big-Nickle May Work Well Against Manning....
We have the personnel to put 3 "DT"s in the middle w 2 "DE"s pinching in on the outside….2 "LB"s playing Gap-Control n 3 "S"s -n – 2 "CB"s tight man Bump-n-Run coverage with blitz packages….That’s something Manning ain’t use to and may be very disruptive to him…They will be forced to keep a “RB” or “TE” behind the line as an extra blocker so that player is removed from the game consistently…NO room to run so thew the air into the Big-Nickle is his only option….We did something like this against “SD” in the 4th quarter the 1st time we played them this season and it worked very well….Shut them down and forced the “TO”…
I would love to see it this week and shut down Payton’s game….
#2 at "WR" coach where we need a Vet who actually played at the pro level to teach our young core the ropes...We have been lacking here ever sense Freddy B retired....
I don't believe it's as much a lack of talent at "WR" as it is a lack of coaching -n- quality development of the young players we have...A player like Ford has great up-side but is extremely inconsistent in our "O"...That's inexcusable to me..."DHB" has shown the ability to play big in a few games but has been under utilized to absolute death....That is also inexcusable...Murphy too has had disappearing acts to his discredit...We have seen threw demonstration that all 3 can play this game so now it's time to get them up to speed and more involved....That will open everything else up in the passing game to the "TE"s -n- "RB"s as well as the run...
Improvement at these 2 areas alone could be enough to make us an unquestioned "PO" team 2011...
I disagree. I say keep Marshall. This is the best defensive performance we've had in quite some time, from an overall standpoint.
Our run defense is better. Stil inconsistant, but better. We had 4/5 new starters on the front seven and are among the tops in sacks. Waufel is turning the DL around, out LB's are playing better than any time since 2002.
There are four rookies, two starters and two (McFadden and Gothel) regular contributors on the defense. Even second year players Bryant, Shaughnessy and Mitchell have been significant in their contributions.
This is a very young defense, and even though they have been inconsistant, there have been times when they dominated the game. They are young. They have high motors and they bring pressure.
Another year's work on not giving up the big plays and run defense. I like our progress. I like the staff, especially the coaches for the front seven.
This whole staff seems to be working well together. Maybe special teams. Where we need some new blood is OL. That would help significantly in the passing game.
Hope everyone had a great Christmas. Spent most of the day with Grandson of H. Atlantal is having it's first White Christmas since 1882.
Must be cold down there...Cali is just more rain...
I agree 100% about the "DL" coach...Nice to have him back...I agree about the young squad also and that they will get better with time...I also agree about the type of involvement of our rookies that has taken place....
But Marshal's contract is up and I think we make a move there and I think we need to make that move to improve and get the best out of what we have...It's not that he stinks it's just that I think we can do much better all around...Especially sometimes regarding adjustments and adapting to the various opponents we face like this week...
It will be interesting to see how he approaches this game....There are risks to blitzing but there are also huge risks letting Payton get comfortable in that pocket too...
That's why I would like to see that 5-Man Front again this week...Our 5 on their 5 makes them adjust to the pressure scheme and takes away part of their game plan...Either "TE"/"RB"/"FB" or combination there of would need to stay in the backfield for protection and the run would be virtually shut down...His "WR"s are thin and we would have 5 in the backfield box making him think before he throws which is what we want to do....
Slow him down so the pass rush has time to get to him...
Meanwhile the 2 "LB"s are spies for anybody sneaking out of their backfield and possible blitzers too...
I don't remember seeing so many rookie "QB"s in one season before...Some of these kids look like they have a future...But some of these "K"s are standing on the edge of a knife...
"AZ" was lucky on that missed extra point the same way they were lucky to win against us on the missed "FG"...5-n-10 doesn't win any cigars but at least they may have found a "QB"....
PantyRaider...Next Up Tenn @ "KC"....That Will Be The Big One!!!/_
PR - Our D is a work in progress but has demonstrated good overall incremental improvement.
I think we could use another DT and playmaking WLB. It is a D made up of many young players (Scott, Bryant, Shaunnessey, McClain, Goethel, Mitchell, Branch, McFadden) who should continue to develop.
The 2 areas that need improvement to get to the next level are rushing defense plus lowering the # of big plays given up.
Total D - #11 - 320.1 ypg Pass D - #5 - 197.3 ypg Sacks - #4 - 40 Pass Comp.% - #2 - 54.5% Receptions D - #1 - 220 +20 yard receptions - #28 - 50 Rush D total yards - #26 - 1832 Rush D avg - #21 - 4.5 ypc Rush D avg per game - #26 - 130.9 +20 yard runs - #28 - 15 Scoring D - #20 - 23.6
The 2 big glaring negative statistics are the big play (receptions and runs over 20 yards). We gave up 65 total plays on defense of 20 or more yards.
The other area that needs improvement is our overall run defense. I am confident with McClain at MLB that we will have our unit lined up in their right spot/fits/gaps to improve our run D.
The most important defensive statistic IMO is scoring D. We are ranked #20 giving up 23.6 points per game. In my judgement, this # would be vastly improved by doing 1 thing and 1 thing alone ... stop giving up such a high # of big plays to the opponent. These big plays are usually caused by a defensive breakdown (missed tackle, missed assignment responsibility).
A text book example of the Raiders D having breakdowns was the JAX game where we gave up 28 points on a total of 13 plays.
>>>> A text book example of the Raiders D having breakdowns was the JAX game where we gave up 28 points on a total of 13 plays. >>>>
There is one big problem inherent with the Raider m2m defense... often times the secondary has their back to the QB and thus are late recognizing whats happening at the LOS... I wonder if that is one of the perennial problems with the Raiders D and big plays?
That, and for some reason our secondary always takes horrible angles to the ball carrier... Asum an exception.
Then again... Woodson was one of the best tackling corners I have ever seen... I sure wish Woodson could have been happy here... Asum/Woodson would have been a tackling MACHINE on the corners over the years.
>>>> I disagree. I say keep Marshall. This is the best defensive performance we've had in quite some time, from an overall standpoint. >>>>>
I dunno... he's gotten better since the Philly game last year... and is a hundred times better than SOB... but there seems to be coaching fundamentals that never seem to get fixed. Maybe its his assistants fault? Fer instance.. why do our safeties habitually take such horrible angles to the ball-carrier? Its like they think they can make a miraculous play close to the first down marker instead of taking a SAFE angle to prevent a long play. Isn't that what a SAFETY is there for? Isn't this getting pointed out in the film room???
Its head scratching...
You never ever see a secondary player from NE or Pitts take a bad angle to the ball... no matter if they are a rookie or veteran... is it just a coincidence?
Great points regarding our "D"s liabilities...So again how do we go about adjusting this...
We saw vast improvement in our "DL" with the change of coach when we brought back a very successful "DL" coach from our past...
We saw a vast improvement in our "O" when we added a qualified "OC" to run it....
We have seen a vast improvement in our overall team performance with Cable as "HC"....
Now I believe it's time to continue these upgrades to the "WR" coach and the "DC" which are both areas we continue to lag behind despite marked improvement in both...Obviously we are much better at "WR" production this season than last but vastly behind where we should be...
Where we have improved...
"QB" play finally...Hold my breath!!!...
"RB"s/"FB"s without a doubt...
"TE"s but injuries took it's toll...
"OL" run blocking is very obvious...
"DL" play remarkably improved...
"LB" play has taken a giant step forward...
Areas of continued concerns:
"DB"s....This is the big play quotient...
"WR"s...Very very inconsistent across the board...Partially due to the piss poor play at "QB" early on...
"OL" pass blocking/protection...
"H" has noted we need an upgrade at coaching the "OL"...I can't argue that but feel the "WR"/"DC" are more inept at the moment...Comments have also been directed at the "DB" coaching on this board and others...Again I'm not going to argue against it but just think it's 2nd to the needs at "WR"-n-"DC"....Also that is nailed down by Al's "Spy" and yes he will always have one...
If we can add the same type of energy to these units that we added to the "OC" -n- "DL" this season we will be remarkably improved with basically the same personnel on the field...But of course we do expect some additional upgrades in personnel too...
Looks like the Tenn defense is mailing it in... too bad we couldn't play these guys at the end of the season. Fisher has completely lost control of the team...
Some expect Fisher to get run after this season...Prolley a dumb move for Tenn because who will replace him...My fear is Turner get's run and Fisher comes in...
Looks like Gary Kubiack is potentially getting run out of Houston and will prolley land in Denver...
Next season could be up for grabs again...
We can still dictate who goes the the "PO"s...I say we knock both Indy -n- "KC" out...
You can point to the early games against AZ or SF as being the difference this season, but it was the game against Jax that sealed the Raiders fate. They had that game won and couldn't close the deal.
In spite of being officially knocked out of the playoffs (Thanks Thumbtacks for nothing) ...
These 2 games (Indy, @ KC) are important games. It will say a lot about the team's character and growth if finish strong. These games are good tests. We have a chance to have a record above .500, to go 6-0 in the division, and build momentum for 2011.

I think I just saw the Ghost of Stuart Schweigart on the Tebow run.
That Tebow TD run on 3rd and 25 is unfortunately just the kind of play that can give a crap team enough confidence to make this a game.
I'm worried.
Stupid trying to play too much trickery in a "MudGame"....Just run the damn ball like your suppose to...

As far as that "QB" issue there's NO doubt...
Officials tried to beat the Raiders, but they couldn't do it alone.
Could somebody explain to me why we were called for illegal formation when Z Miller scored? Didn't we have 7 guys on the line? Am I missing something?
And how does Routt not even touch that ball in the endzone? ... which the WR was OB.
"Nice DHB impersonation, Routt."
Sad, but true.
Nice win, but ugly at times.
Congrats to McFadden for breaking 1,000 yards. Another great game for him.
>>>>
>>>
Anything else is just stupid bashing of a Raider player for what ever personal reasons...

makes sense though... . he'll just conveniently let cable's contract expire. no way he lets jackson leave...

Jackson would have to get a KC offer to leave.
I dunno... he's been ok in play calling, but most of the offensive performance this year has been because McF is such an elite weapon.
Look how horribly the offense looked the 2 games he was hurt for reference.
If anything, he seems to be uncreative in getting McF in the offense... I'd design the entire offense around getting him into open space.
Jackson seems to think all things revolve between the tackles.
>>>
Jackson would have to get a KC offer to leave.
>>>
Clarification: HEAD COACH offer.
He cannot leave for another assistant coach job.
I don't think anyone will roll the dice that much on a HC. Isn't this his first full OC job?
NYRaider,
You are correct.

Good gawd... it was throughout the entire game.
I kept saying... "Are we listening to the Denver feed or something???"
Its not as bad as the refs having an anti-Oakland bias... but still annoying as hell.
"H"...
RaiderMike
PANTIES IS THE OFFICIAL TIBOO'S GIRLFRIED

Your the only moron that sees all the wrong with Campbell, he was brought in to manage the game and put us in a position to win.
BUT WE ALL UNDERSTAND FROM NOW ON YOU ARE TIBOOS GIRLFRIEND!
Now I know why the panties nickname

"CJ"...

Number one... he's a frigging HEADCASE.
Two... what skills does he possess superior to Campbells?
Not sure when bringing in a headcase has ever worked for the Raiders at QB.
Plus the Raiders have started winning arguably by AVOIDING headcases... why bring one in now at the most important position?
JMAC has this one right... we need to avoid Young like the plague.
Let Campbell know he is the starter from day one (no Gradkowski) and stick a draftee behind him IMO.
He might just keep improving....
Gary...

Yes we have needs at "WR"/"OL"/
CB" but the "QB" is really the one who makes it all happen...
PantyRaider...If Not "VY" Than Who!!!/_
Lamonica was a "HeadCase" and so was the "Snake" according to most...They were just Raiders of that time....
Bill-Jo Hobart was also...
Remember it was "Hoss" who had the altercations with Shell I....
Gannon was a fiery leader who clashed with Gruden....
That type of "HeadCase" is acceptable to me...A fiery leader who in just not content to sit back and play "Robot"....
That's what Tebow looked like tonight...I like that fire and than I look at "JC" and he just looks dumb!!!...
PantyRaider....Where's The Emotion!!!/_
This is why you don't want Vince Young:

I want no part of him.
McNabb's another story. He might be obtainable. He may just get waived after the season.
"X"...
But knock yourself out...

Calico,
Pretty close to the way I looked at it.
H
>>>>
>>>>>
This is a very winnable game next week, IMO.
>>>>
>>>>

JMAC said the same thing... he isn't pretty but as long as he wins the game at the end... who cares?
Thats EXACTLY what Plunkett did to endure us all to him.
If McF stays healthy... we're not rally desperate for an elite QB anyway.
PANTIES IS IN LOVE WITH TIBOO, THEY ARE GETTING MARRIED IN VEGAS NEXT WEEK!

As far as Plunkett goes...Not so fast...
1980...13 games
165/320 51.6% 2,299yds
18-TDs 16-Ints (36Sks -285yds) \
28/141yds Rush 5.0yd ave 2 TDs
Rate 72.9
Ah!....I don't think "JC" is approaching those #'s at all....
"JC"....11 Games

11 TDs 8 Ints (27 Sks -168yds)
40/179yds 4.5ave 1 TD
Rate 82.9
9 Fumbles 1 lost...

Whoa there cowboy. Agreeing with me? Just yanking your chain. Don't forget center.

2nd Half Raiders:

GO RAIDERS
Panty,
What is your case for Vince Young.
H
"H"...

Derick...
PantyRaider...6-n-0 Is Huge!!!/_
H - We've both been saying O-line for some time, but there was a time that I was criticized here for that point of view. Just a couple years ago, I wanted Monroe (or Oher), and lobbied hard for that. Instead..., well, we won't go there.
IMO, Raiders got lucky with Veldheer. I would bet he's better than the Raiders expected.
Bruce Campbell is still a project... a worth while one, but they need serious help on the line. Walker and Carlisle are done after this year.
And, yes, center could use an upgrade... he's the anchor.
I would debate the Veldeer point...
X,
Do you really think Mcnabb would be an upgrade over Campbell ?
I don't
H, and NYR,
No doubt Raiders need to address the 0-line in off season.
But don't forget the DT's.
When you see Tebow with large gain right up the middle. Plus the too many large gains on ground through middle of our D all year.
We need the big bodies to beef up the D-line.
And should be end of the line for Shillins, JLH, and Miller.
Raiders can seriously upgrade the WR position by replacing these 3 duds.
So 0-line help, yes. But don't stop there.
Raider00 -
For as much as I disagreed with keeping Schilens this year (due to injury), the Raiders have little cost or risk in bringing him back.
Turned out to be a great find, though.
PantyRaider

One of the most interesting things about the book, "Badasses", was the Raiders had 3 star players that could not crack the starting lineup.
For a while, Ken Stabler, Ted Hendricks, and Dave Casper, all sat on the bench, waiting for their chance.
But these 3 "star" players, along with the Tooz, helped turn the Raiders into Champions.
Sometimes it takes a star or two to put a team over the hump.
I'd love a star WR. And some stars on defense too.
But not fake stars, like Randy Moss. Just some real ones.

Rulon Jones "DE" 2nd rd #42 "PB"er
Rick Perros "RB" 4th rd #107
Detroit selected....
Eric Hipple "QB" 4th rd #85
Henry Henderson "DB" 10th rd #251
Terry Bradshaw's little brother also played for us but went in the 7th rd to Houston pick #182
That same yr Mark Wilson was the "QB" at Brigham Young and went to the Raiders...1980....He was great in college but very inconsistent as a pro...

Veldeer speaks about what it takes...
How did he succeed with the leap in competition?
“Most of it’s just a mindset,’’ Veldheer said. “It’s you versus another person. No one is super man with a cape out there. Everyone is wearing a helmet and shoulder pads and you’ve got to go out there and execute and do your job better than the guy across from you.’’
I have to agree....No matter where you come from it's how you prepare and execute that matters...But you need the athletic tools also but he had those...The only player to place in the top 10 of every test at the combine for his squad..."OL"...

PR,
Of your WR list, obviously, V. Jackson stands out. But SD probably will put a franchise tag on him.
Without Jackson, I would take a flyer on Santonio Holmes.
Holmes is a well rounded WR that can catch the short stuff, the deep stuff, and everything in between.
Of course, just don't give him the keys to the car.
Panty,
Everything you said about Vince Young can be said about Jason Campbell, including the running.

Vincent Jackson 6'5"
Murphy 6'2"
"DHB" 6'2"
Jacoby Ford 5'9"
Plaxaco "GunDumb" Burris 6'5"
All with enough experience to be dependable "WR"s supplementing:
Zack
"D-Mac"
Reece
Bush

Panty,
It's hard to say Campbell fumbles more than Vence Young.
H
OK, I've done some research. Since some folks are wrapped up in Campbells 69.6 rating here is what I found out.
That bad call by the refs was a huge deal in his rating.
If you add that play back into the stats for the game Campbell comes up with a 102.08 rating for the game.
The bottom line is Campbell played well and we won. End of story.
H
H - no argument from me. Campbell has been mostly effective since his early season benching.
Besides, most of us know that stats can be very misleading.
For example, one report I read today stated that Routt has one of the best rankings among CBs relative to percentage of pass completions. The author also pointed out that Routt was directly responsible for 10 points in the Denver game, including penalties and completions against him. The whiff in the endzone stands out in my mind.
NYRaider,
Yeah, also that stupid call would add four points to his season rating also.

13/17 254yds 2 TDs Passing
7/30yds Rushing one for 20yds
Rate 142.8...
As I remember aside from the 1st 2 weeks out of the bye when our "O" just sucked "VY" slapped our asses and made it hurt...We wanted to contain Johnson but "VY"s mobility and improvisation made that a very difficult task to the tune of...
27/142yds 2 TDs
4/8yds receiving
"VY"
9 Game 60% passer 1255yds 10 TDs 3 Ints 13 Sacks Rate 98.6
25/125yds Rush -n- 6 fumbles
"JC"
11 Games 57% Passer 2,000yds 11 TDs 8 Ints 27 Sacks Rate 82.9
40/179yds Rush -n- 9 Fumbles
Looks to me that all things considered we could substitute the 2 of them at will and keep on trucking...I can't imagine a reason not to have 2 starting "QB"s that are equally capable of running your "O" except for the fear of "Mediot" abuse as they try to depict a contentious picture...

The only way you replace Campbell, or Tom Cable for that matter, is if it's an upgrade.
Otherwise, what's the point ?
This logic should apply to every position across the board.
If you can upgrade a position. Make the team better. Do it.
But I think the upgrade at QB position, will be Campbell himself.
I expect him to be much more polished, and smooth in year 2 under center.
Plus, with better WR's, the hole offense should be better.

Equal competition at every position on the field...

"KC" would be 2-n-4 AFCW @ 10-n-6 if they lose to us...
So we still have the opportunity to decide who plays and who stays home pouting because the Raiders did them in....That in it self is something to play for...

"Indy" will bring it or they may lose out to "Jacks"....

That Damn Missed "FG" Against "AZ"
Panty,
So, you are suggesting that we give up the store and possibly picks to go after Vince Young.
H
H
Ok, it's basically announced that Henderson will be the RT this Sunday.
He actually played reasonably well last Sunday, but the Geldings don't generate much of a pass rush.
Indy doesn't either only 26 on the year. We're sitting at 40.
Here's a stat that's both good an bad. Janakowski has hit on 11 of 12 field goals from 30-39 yards. Good percentage. But, the lone miss was against AZ.
I guess I can't be too upset with the guy, he was clutch against the Chefs.
All I can say is Go Thumbtacks.
H
"BR"...
PantyRaider...We Will Have The Opportunity To Get Very Healthy Across The Board!!!/_
Colts WR Collie out for season
H
"H"...

Will "JC" be under siege!!!...

"Fun Speculations"....

Now all heads turn toward the new "HC" hunt demanding it be someone who believes in Tebow and is willing to design a gameplan around him....
Well there is some good news in all this...It may very well stymie the "Donko"s for some time to come and give us 2 easy wins per season...

NYRaider,
On Bruce Campbell.
H
"H"...

Good stuff, Jmac. Glad he is a Raider reporter.
...also from Jmacs live blogs... said he thought one of the reasons Veldheer has improved so fast is that Gallery took him under his wing... these are intangibles that cannot be discounted with players... would Kelly have had a standout season without playing next to Seymour the last two seasons?
We’ll see.
Gary,
"Cable and Al deserve as much credit for this as criticism for the 7 years of suckiness."
H
Quick observation:

Its kinda embarrassing.
Gary,
“Al also is the person that insisted he bring in a new OC and turn over play-calling duties to him... something that was a stroke of genius.”
JMNLHSO,
H
Pitching a no-hitter at any level is impressive.
blanda,
i agree with you to give cable another try mainly for some stability BUT, dudes contract is up. what better reason does davis have now to promote jackson to HC? davis will NEVER give up control to a GM. we all know that so cable being the GM is out.
now what?
blanda, i also meant to say that jackson is being rumored for several nfl hc jobs... davis will NOT lose this guy. after all, he turned down the same job in chicago to come here...

Cable was already starting his coaching career at Idaho but gave it one more shot.

Thats a great point.
"CJ"-n-Gary...
Add to that what Hue did in Bal with a rookie "QB" who was not projected to be much and he is already very well known for his "O" abilities...That's why he is here..

"JC" needs to bring his "A" game right off the start...Don't want to play from behind...They will key on "D-Mac" so decoy him a few times and go the other way...
When they have the ball:
Slow them down...Play a body deep and take away that big play...Stay in your gaps -n- don't let them break off an easy run...They are good at pass protection so be patient...Get after them but don't get fooled...Play tight man coverage and disrupt their routs at the line...Blitz but do it smart well timed and disguised while maintaining tight coverage down field and short...
Payton has been more mistake prone this season than most...Try to get in his head and make him worry...Be disruptive and look for the mistake...

The 3 best ways to disrupt Manning and the Colts passing attack;

2 Coaches Must Change:
2 areas where I see we need new blood...
PantyRaider...Just My Stinking Opinion!!!/_
Going to the Game tomorrow and I am soooo….Very excited!!!
Here's an interesting article. I’m still in awe of how much influence Davis actually has or has had. Truly, he is the GOD FATHER of the NFL.

Let's bring the PAIN!!!!
GO RAIDERS!
Panty,

"H"...
PantyRaider...Tough Game Tomorrow!!!/_
I don't remember seeing so many rookie "QB"s in one season before...Some of these kids look like they have a future...But some of these "K"s are standing on the edge of a knife...
"AZ" was lucky on that missed extra point the same way they were lucky to win against us on the missed "FG"...5-n-10 doesn't win any cigars but at least they may have found a "QB"....
PantyRaider...Next Up Tenn @ "KC"....That Will Be The Big One!!!/_

Our D is a work in progress but has demonstrated good overall incremental improvement.
Total D - #11 - 320.1 ypg
Pass D - #5 - 197.3 ypg
Sacks - #4 - 40
Pass Comp.% - #2 - 54.5%
Receptions D - #1 - 220
+20 yard receptions - #28 - 50
Rush D total yards - #26 - 1832
Rush D avg - #21 - 4.5 ypc
Rush D avg per game - #26 - 130.9
+20 yard runs - #28 - 15
Scoring D - #20 - 23.6

I dunno... he's gotten better since the Philly game last year... and is a hundred times better than SOB... but there seems to be coaching fundamentals that never seem to get fixed.
I don't think so.
"CJ"....
PantyRaider...All Future Concerns...But Today It's "KC"/"SD" -n- Indy On Our Plate!!!!/_
Damn Dumb Fisher going for broke and playing stupid..4th dn -n- 6 at the 38 and he goes for it...Dumb Ass...
Give "KC" great field position when your already having trouble stopping them...Now their already at the 25...Great job giving us help Tenn...
You Suck!!!....
"KC" up 14-0 late in the 1st...
Hate this but our season appears on the rocks...We need more help than either Tenn of Cinn can deliver...
Looks like the Tenn defense is mailing it in... too bad we couldn't play these guys at the end of the season. Fisher has completely lost control of the team...
Gary...
PantyRaider...Reason To Keep Playing!!!/_
Well I can't watch any more of that crap!!!...
31-7...Marvelous job Fisher...Bet you wish you had "VY" back in there huh!!...
Time to go get my "Beer Fix" at the "Circle" here in Morro Bay...
GOOOooooo Raiders!!!!....
You can point to the early games against AZ or SF as being the difference this season, but it was the game against Jax that sealed the Raiders fate. They had that game won and couldn't close the deal.
Oh well. Still some football to play.
Go Raiders!
Go Raiders!
Gameday thread is up.
