On The Brink: Patriots Gameday Thread

Well, here we are...on the brink of a new era.

Indeed, if we win today, I think it would be safe to declare that a new era is finally up on us. To beat a formidable foe for a second straight week to reach 3-1 would signify a radical departure from previous years.

If we lose, and go to .500, then it won't be the end of the world, and the team will still be better than it has been, but you'll have to wonder if the Raiders are truly ready to make the leap to a serious playoff contender.

We shall see very soon. GO RAIDERS!

Seriously that was very lousy defensive play. I can't believe how awful the secondary is and that no player can tackle effectively. 8 D penalties for 75 yds. Completely uncalled for.

Now were down by 14pts.

That was clearly an interference by the Pasties. J. Ford would have scored a TD. But seen the ref's are clearly giving the Pats the game how can we win this game?

Is this a new trend in NFL ?

Are officials going to correct each others mistakes, or perceived mistakes ?

I have never seen this before in football.

This could lead to 5 hour games, because, NFL officials make a lot of mistakes.

Awful would be an understatement. There's not one thing to point to. It was pretty much everything. Obviously, Foster presents a huge problem for the Raiders next week.

Some questionable officiating, but the Raiders got carved up today. Not quite ready to join the elite, I'm afraid.

4:47 PM
Anonymous raider00 said...

RT,

I'm not usually one to harp on the officiating.

But that was more then just a bad call.

If Raiders score there, it's 24-17, and anyone can win it.

But the bigger question is, what this can lead to.

What if an official calls an 0-lineman for holding.
But another official disagrees, and steps in to reverese it.

Well, only one of them is right. But how will they decide which is the correct call ?

Will they go to replay now, to see which official saw the holding, and which imagined it ?

How long will this take to sort out, with the many mistakes NFL officials make each game ?

Perhaps this was just a single event, meant to screw the Raiders, and we will never see such a bizaare instance again.

Or is this a slippery slope to nowhere. a league where all officials now can question the judgement of each other.

Raider00..

I think it's a new ploy used against us...The Raiders...They come up with something new every season and it's to be expected when we play a team like the suck ass Pats...

Look at the "BS" pulled out of their ass for Pryor and than the way his appeal was handled as a Raider....How can any of this stand???

We never saw that Tuck Rule called like that again ever!!!..It was in fact called differently in a few games sense...Clearly a fumble!!!

The Pats only had 1/10yds in penalty until late in this game when the "Zebra" started throwing flags in garbage time to even it up...Still only 1/2 the flags and the yds...And these flags were at key times and had a definite effect upon the outcome of the game....

Picking that flag up was as stupid a call as I have ever seen...But already Hue has been flagged for challenging a "TD"...Unheard Of!!...Last week Buris was awarded a "TD" that was in the "DB"s hands as he came away with it..The week before a dual possession was awarded to the "D" not to Moore for the winning score....It just goes on and on as it always has...

PantyRaider...Totally Disgusted...NOT At The Raiders...At The NFL!!!/_

"Carved Up"???

I would have to project that the 31 points against the best "O" in the NFL was almost expected...Especially with the "Zebra"s helping hand!!!

But what here is being "Carved Up"??

Total Net Yards 409

They ave over 500yd per game....

Pass Comp-Att-Int-yds 16 - 30 - 0 0 226yds

Brady ave 400yds per game...

Rush 30/183yds 6.1yd ave

YES!!!...Again it's our weakness against the run that kills us...

But I'm NOT putting this one on our "D"...It's on our "O" who failed to score more than 19 points in a game where we "Carved" them up on the ground and threw the air....

We had "TOP" just as was needed to keep that "Pig" away from Brady....

We stopped "NE" on 5 drives from scoring the "TD"s...

9 possessions: 4 "TD"s...1 per quarter -w- 1 "FG"....

What we failed to do is score the necessary points to win because of mistakes by our "QB" and bogas crap from the "Zebra"s...That was this game...The old "JC" showed up and we went pass happy way too early when we should have been able to pound it on the ground....

Hell we had 124yds in the 1st half...We only gained 36 in the entire 2nd half???...WHY????...

1st half:

J. Campbell 11/15 144yds 0 1 "Int"

2nd half:

J. Campbell 14/23 200yds 1 "TD" 1 "Int"

We lost sight of who we are and tried to be who we aren't...

This was a benchmark game which shows the team still has a long ways to go. The talk of the town last week to a team that got sliced and diced up this week.

I don't think Hue had one of his better games in terms of playcalling.

The one and only way we beat the Pats is to pound them into submission by running the ball 35+ carries.

On the Campbell INT at the end of the 2nd Q, I question why we didn't pound the ball in until the Pats prove they can stop our rushing attack.

I expect a very difficult game next week vs Houston.

I think we can handle Foster. I'm worried about our pass defense. Not once did we step up and punch Welker in the face at the line, not once; and he torches us (as does the spread offense).
We face another spread offense next week with Houston. Let's hope our D-Coordinator can figure it out. The good news going into it, is the Texans may be without Andre Johnson.

Hue must be pulling his hair out today...you could see his frustration with the Defense...it's just a matter of time before something as to give in that aspect.... Then Hue will be considered disloyal and a 'problem'. Then we will see someone else brought in and Hue being phased out. It's just a matter of time.

I like Hue, just as I liked Cable, the situation of Mr.Davis in charge of the Defense and the HC in charge of the Offense is not sustainable. It's the same ole story...what is the definition of insane?

I believe the talent is there, the Offense is there, the Defense is still playing the same scheme and it will always be what it is, poor against the run and very inconsistent. It is what it is and will continue, it's a shame cause these players deserve better, they are busting their ass and it's futile.

Seeing McClain running all over the field...it's a career killer, no one can succeed at it and other teams will continue to run him ragged. The D-line needs blitz help vs certain teams and it isn't there. DB's are not able to cover for 7 seconds and if the front 4 isn't getting to the QB = yesterday.

Teams are running straight up the gut or wide sweeps and picking up big gains, still, the scheme remains the same. It's too bad cause this team could be at the top of this league. The bully is being outsmarted.

If nothing changes in the run defense, as it hasn't really for years and years, I would expect Foster to ring up 200+ yards. It's simple physics... you know, E=MC2 stuff.

The Pats came into Oakland with no running game to speak of, yet they didn't have much problem running the ball. The Texans have a supercharged offense. Hard to imagine the Raiders stopping them. I remain hopeful...!

12:15 PM

It looks as though the Raiders will have ring up many points to beat the good teams in the NFL.

It will be very interesting to watch how it all plays out over the next weeks. I can see Hue getting frustrated, I can see the players getting frustrated if this trend continues.

Mr.Davis has given Hue the offense, as he has done with previous HC's. The defense remains his baby and he doesn't want to let go of his idea on how the defense plays the game. It's frustrating for the fans as well, year after year after year.

A great offense can disguise a weak defense, yesterday they couldn't and we saw what we have seen many times over the last few decades. You could throw in any of the Raider defenses dating back to the early 90's and it would be the same result.

Last time Bresnahan was DC for the Raiders, league MVP Rich Gannon played QB. Also, the Raiders D had far more talent, particularly in the secondary. These are significant factors that separate Bresnahan's current run with the Raiders from his previous one.

In between these stints, his resume is awful.

My guess is that Jackson will have to get involved with this defense, which may not sit too well.... As Jones suggests, it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

i said that it would all be downhill from this game on. problem is, i wasn't counting on the offense to take a dump AND i said that based on what the defense did to NY last week. OOPS, didn't think we'd fall back to the same BS that lost us several games in years past. you know; penalties, turnovers, the refs...

they'd better find a way to stop foster or else he'll run over our asses just like last time!

well, there wasn't much to cheer about from section 319 and i wish i could have that $$ back to put some gas in my tank this a.m.

that was a crappy performance! well, not totally crappy. there were some good moments ie: DHB.

i said it before and others have also. that the offense must score a LOT of points to keep us in games. but in order to do that, mcfadden MUST stay healthy and carry this team because "deer in the headlights" campbell isn't gonna do it by himself!

As great as I felt after the win against the Jets, I felt equally as disappointed after the loss to teh Patriots. The team that made no mistakes (turnovers, stupid penalties) won the game and that was the Patriots. As for our next game; keep the penalties down, don't turn the ball over and run, run, run the ball against the Texans and we can go to 3-2! A little tidbit . . . the Raiders are 117-28 (.807) all-time when they have a 100-yard rusher . . . 2-0 (1.000) this season. Got that Hue, give the ball to McFadden.

Scorpio-n-Jason...

There has been some talk that "D-Mac" was still suffering from the groin pull and thus not used as much as we wanted...That this is why he was taking several plays off while Bush was in???...

I hope if true that he has time to heal this week because we desperately need him..Next man up can't replace some folks...

That's true of our "DB"s also...We be very thin and lame...Few have played this entire season...Even 4 games!!!....

Routt/Giordano...Who else??...

Bresnahan/Ross-n-Woodson have their hands full trying to compete in this situation...Than we have faced some of the best "O"s in the NFL early on...Shit!!!...What the hell can be expected to happen here???

So things are being tweaked to try and get the "DB"s some help...Like "DL" in coverage and the "LB" getting out of position while worrying about the pass....Moss was even in coverage several yds deep...So it also takes a toll on our pass rush "D" and Run "D" as well....

As posted this "O" is what needs to lead this team to "V" and up against the #32 "D" they failed to score points...Now we face a Houston team with much better "D" and just as tough an "O" and very good ground attack...Not going to be easy and on the road....

In support of our "D" they played better than any other "D" this season against "NE" limiting them to 100 less yds and limiting Brady's passing game to 150 less yds...They also limited the scoring to only 1 "TD" per quarter and to only 4 out of the 9 possessions...Also giving up the 1 "FG"...Where we failed and got ripped was in the Rush Game...30/185yds @ 6.1yd ave and this was the unexpected part...Take away some of the passing threat and we were vulnerable to the run...

If everyone was healthy would it have been a different outcome???...I have to think so...But Next Man Up is the rule of the day...

Does he want his "DL" in pass coverage??

Just what the hell about this was Al's Game Plan???

The elephant in the room is a defense that is gouged by the run (#29, 136.0 per game) and gives up far too many points (#30, 28.3 per game).

In order for this team to take the next step in climbing the competitive ladder, the onus will be on the defense to make drastic, urgent improvements for the remaining 12 games.

BTW, McFadden deserves and warrants more than 14 carries in a game. Are you kidding me? Unless #20 is hurt, 25+ carries per game should be the blue print ESPECIALLY considering the shortcomings of our D.

PantyRaiders . . . I understand if McFadden was/is nursing an injury and Bush was filling in, then you need to give it to Bush more. He is very much capable IMO. Our "D" does need to step up and stop some people.

Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden (groin) appeared to be limited in Week 4 by the groin he strained during the team's Week 3 game. McFadden rushed for 75 yards on 14 carries.

Raiders | Michael Bush injured in Week 4

Mon, 03 Oct 2011 06:13:11 -0700

Oakland Raiders RB Michael Bush (ankle) suffered an ankle injury in the team's Week 4 game.

Jason...

Yes...We abandoned that run way too early...That along with the errant throws by "JC" are what took down our "O" against that #32 rated "D"....

Now as far as our "D" is concerned:

#1...When some of you judged them after that 1st game against an "O" like the "Donkey" you were all over how great they played...Now up against 2 of the best "O"s in the NFL your doing a ridicules beat down on them....

#2...They played very well against an "O" like the Jets stopping them late 1st half and into the 2nd...

#3...This week we face another one of those very powerful "O"s for the 3rd time this season...Our "D" will prolley not look very good...

#4....We don't face teams like that every week...So our "D" should be adequate in most games...

#5...It's the "O" that most of us were excited about this season...That's the element that we were looking at to close the gap for us to becoming a "PO" team...Nothing has changed!!!

So stop for a moment and re-evaluate who we are and where we want to go and how we get there...

The "O" is what has to carry us with some help from our "D" and special teams...The "O" is what failed us this week...Lets hope they have their shit together against Houston and can make a game of it....

Check out the grades your favorite "Mediot" gave this team...He apparently agrees with me..

I agree with this. But problem is, if we're going to make playoffs, Raiders will face teams with good 0's in post season.

If we're going to win some playoff games, or even make playoffs. Defense is going to have to step it up a great deal.

That is the flaw in our D scheme.

Raiders will rush only 4 down linemen, 90% of time.

If they put pressure, great. things will work out fine.

If no pressure, as in 2nd half vs Bills, and entire NE games. and no blitz to help, result is QB standing forever in pocket, eating Raiders D alive.

Usually 2 or 3 wide open for QB's to choose from.

Not good.

Agree Raider 00.

The league is predominantly a pass happy league.

If the Raiders D isn't able to sustain consistent QB pressure, it allows the opponent's to:

(a) slice up our D by passing which in turn (b) sets up the opponent to effectively run the ball and (c) puts the Raiders offense in a situation where there is a very small margin for error.

Better tackling, execution, and red zone D can contain the damage done by the opponent to a certain degree Ultimately though, QB pressures, hurries, hits, and sacks is the difference in this team winning 6-8 games and winning 9-11 games.

I would like to see our LBs and safeties used more regularly to add a 5th rusher in obvious passing downs.

True that be but our hands are a bit tied at the moment because there's only so much that can be done with the injuries and the rookies...

Like Hue said if you tighten up on one thing the bleeding just shifts to what your now neglecting....

Against Houston the run is their best weapon...We will have to address it and pin point it...But in doing so we may be more vulnerable to the pass...

Again I'm pimping what we did the 1st week against that "Donkey"...5-Man Front...It worked and worked very dame well...

Stop that run game and make them one dimensional...I think their passing game is set up by their run...Now A Johnson is out so it's not as dangerous...But this is no easy match-up...Here are the #'s..
-----------------------------------
Looking At This Weeks Game It's A Vastly Different Match-Up!!

We be the better “O” coming in but they be vastly the better “D”….In virtually every aspect…

Their “D” to ours…

Total yds allowed: 323 to 409
Passing Yds: 214 to 273
Rush Yds: 108 to 136
Points: 17.5 to 28.2
3rd dn %: 39.1 to 42.6

But our “O” to theirs…

Total yds/game: 407 to 380
Pass yds: 238.8 to 231.5
Rushing yds: 178 to 148.5
Points: 27.8 to 26.8

Power Poll Sucks!!!

“NE” is still at #5…Houston is now at # 6 up from #9….We be down to #16 form #12….

So if #12 losses to #5 they slide down 4 spots???

“SD” moves up after having trouble with Miami???

The Jets are at 14 after losing to us and twice in a row???

So we have lost to #5 n #10 while beating #14 n #26 as the #16 team tied with Atlanta??

Now looking at our remaining schedule we play:

#1 "GB"
#4 Det
#6 Hou
#7 “SD” twice
#18 Chi
#22 Cleve
#25 “KC” twice
#26 “Donkey”
#30 Miami
#31 Minn

So now why can’t we finish at 10-n-6 if we split with "SD"???…That’s if we lose to everyone above us and win against those below us…This makes me feel a little better about this past loss…

PantyRaider...Still Very Doable!!!/_

How many of us really expected the Raiders to beat the Pats (or the Texans next week).

Losing to the Bills is a far tougher pill to swallow.

Unfortunately, we may have to look forward beyond the Texans game and think about putting together a run against average teams. Hopefully, the Raiders will continue to mature as a team (and as a coaching staff) over the ensuing weeks and we will be ready to play better teams later in the season and make a run at the playoffs.

That's about all we can expect, or realistically hope for.

Our saving grace is that after the Texans game, the next 4 weeks next to perfect for us to build confidence and stack together wins.

Home vs. Cleveland
Home vs. KC
Bye week to get injuries healed
Home vs. Denver

This 4 week stretch is critical. I am expecting nothing less than 3-0 and 5-3 at the half-way point of the season.

The biggest weakness of the team is stopping the run. We are dead last in YPA giving up a whopping 5.9 yards per attempt.

All 4 of our opponents have been able to pass effectively in different degrees against us but the difference in the 2 wins vs. 2 losses was the run D. We did a nice job on run D vs. Denver and NY but were torn apart by the runs of Buff and NE.

McClain has been less than stellar and he is consistently playing in coverage, something that continues to plague the Raiders (through multiple DCs) in terms of scheme.

Wimbley and Groves haven't been any better, but there has to be a higher expectation in run support for MLB. Where's the impact player we drafted?

Pryor on the horizon:

Quarterback Terrelle Pryor is working out off to the side, while his teammates work in full-team drills. He has one game left in his five-game suspension.
Pryor is eligible to join the Raiders in practice and games beginning Monday. The Raiders will be forced to add him to their 53-man roster at some point. It’s likely that the Raiders will receive a brief window before they have to activate him so that Pryor can get up to speed.

I expect his 1st game against that "Donkey" after our bye...

Collectively, we need to get MUCH more from our RB trio of Wimbley, McClain, and Groves.

The front 7 looks fine on paper to stop the run but unfortunately the game isn't played on paper.

As Hue alluded to in his PC today, it is a matter of guys knocking their opponent backwards, shedding blocks, rallying to the ball, and putting ball carriers down hard on the ground.

Or as he eloquently put it, there comes a down where the 11 men on the field need to say "enough is enough".

At this point, Raider fans are sick and tired of the same problem plaguing the team for the 9th straight season running ... stopping the run. Until we can correct this problem, we are nothing more than pretenders.

No secret to stopping the run.

11 defenders must get down and dirty.

get into the mud and the blood.

fight nasty. fight mean. and don't quit.

Maybe Raiders have to many pretty boys on their defense.

Don't want to get their nice uniforms dirty, and have no stomach for the fight.

All it takes is a couple of slackers, and the D will suck.

DL Matt Shaughnessy (shoulder) Ruled Out!!

Raiders | Richard Seymour could play at DE in Week 5

Fri, 07 Oct 2011 06:55:54 -0700

The Oakland Raiders could move DL Richard Seymour from defensive tackle to end in their Week 5 game against the Houston Texans. The move would enable DL John Henderson to start at defensive tackle. Henderson is a run-stuffer who could help shut down Texans RB Arian Foster. The Raiders have yielded 5.9 yards per carry so far this season.

Raiders | Could sign Trevor Pryce

Fri, 07 Oct 2011 07:14:36 -0700

The Oakland Raiders are expected to discuss a contract with free-agent DL Trevor Pryce (Jets). Pryce visited the team Thursday, Oct. 6.

Well as it looks the injury to ShawNasty may be worse than expected and price will be his replacement...Not what I had hoped when the news 1st appeared...But maybe a little later if ShawNasty returns we can have a "DL" rotation for every situation...Including that 5-Man Front that we started the season with...

2 "DE"s-w-3 "DT"s...

Kelley-Seymour-Henderson-Bryant-Price

ShawNasty-Houston-Moss-Scott

If the "DL" play improves it will also help the "LB"s -n- "DB"s...

PantyRaider...Our "D" Will Be Tested Again!!!/_
