Belated Postgame / Early Pregame Take

1. Impressive win. A must-win that we won. It almost fully erased the bad taste out of my mouth from the Broncos and Chiefs debacles. A win this Sunday would make me minty fresh all over again.

2. Aaron Curry, great energy coming off that guy. Sometimes a bit too much, as we saw in earlier games. But if he can continue to channel his energy and aggressiveness, then we hit a home run with that pickup.

3. This is why I hate it when Raiders fans make excuses for losses by citing injuries. It just opens the doors for Chargers fans to do the same, citing news stories reporting things like, "By the middle of the third quarter, the Raiders were essentially facing off against the Chargers' second-team offensive line." Which may be true. You know what's also true? THEY LOST. Winners win. The Packers won the Super Bowl last year after losing numerous key players. The Patriots posted a winning record one year after losing the league's best quarterback. And we won against the Chargers after losing one of the league's best running backs. JUST WIN, Baby.

4. Carson Palmer's stock is way up after that game. There were some real "wow" throws (not to mention some "wow" catches--hello Denarius!). If he can stay healthy we've got a great chance of taking this division.

5. I'd like to say that this Sunday is in the bag. It should be. The Vikings are pretty pathetic...But we've been known to play down to the competition, and I'm bothered by the specter of our defense reverting to Swiss Cheese mode in the face of Adrian Peterson. I expect a win...Is that too much to ask?

P.S. Hey, Bazjoz, thanks for the kick in the pants. Maybe if you'd comment more often, I'd write more often. You never know...

I think more would be written as the Raiders start proving who they are talking themselves up to be.
Right now, we are close, there is a lot of electricity flowing through Raider Take. We've been expressing our excitement, as well as our concerns.

To the game, this game is going to be tougher than it looks on paper. We are going to see what kind of consistent run defense we have. We can't have our d jumping their gap assignments like Scott did against Tebow; or AP will light us up for 600 yards. The key to this game is for the defense to stay in their gaps and play with their brains.

Offensively, Palmer has to be on the same page as his WRs. This game is going to be a good game, and we have to be on our toes. Take the fight to them, and walk away with a "W". Otherwise we will be tied with the Doncos.

Not picking on you but this was rather funny:

"I think more would be written as the Raiders start proving who they are talking themselves up to be."

LoL!!...As I remember just last July the prospect of not even having a season loomed over us...4 months later and now here we find ourselves in week #11 on top of the AFCW with a real shot at the "PO"s...But that's not motivation enough to post because the teams not the "Bully" that Hue pimped them to be???...WoW!!...Remarkable!!!

Me I'm just so damn glad to have this season and my team in contention that I can't shut up about it...After all the pains of the off season this is glorious!!!

"RT"....

#3...Well now ain't that cute...So now it's enabling other fans to pimp excuses all because some Raider fans cited the injuries as relating to the losses???...As if they didn't???...

Those team "V"s that you cited were all examples of a team with the depth to be able to pull another player up at that position and just keep going...Brady was behind Bleadsoe...Bush was behind "D-Mac"...The Pack is back!!...

Now go look at our list of injuries...Half the starters out or slowed...Few teams can go threw so much and keep posting "V"s...Add to this the loss of our "MGP" and our rookie "HC" having to take on a major part of those duties...Than a new "QB" is brought in week #8 and put in as starter with only 3 days practice...But we are now 5-n-4 and on top of our division...

Tell ya what...I challenge you to post another franchise in history who has endured so much and still posted a winning record...

Lets see!!!

Lost in "FA" starting "LT"/"TE"/"RCB"...

Starting "QB" lost week #7...

Starting "RB" out sense week #8...

Starting "WR"s out for the 1st few weeks of the season...Ford -n- Murphy...Than Ford out again week #10...

Starting "LCB"" out for significant time sense the early season..."CJ"...

Starting "S" out for significant time...Huff..

Starting "RDE" out on IR...Shawnasty..

Starting "MLB" and "QB" of the "D" out or slowed due to injury...

Starting "RDT" over 30 and slowed by injury while not being able to practice...Seymour..

Starting "C" out...Satele..

Both rookie "CB"s out..."DVD"-n-"CC"...

"S" lost for significant time...Half Season..."MM"...

Starting "S" lost early on IR...Eugene..

Starting replacement "TE" lost for 2-3 games...Boss..

Starting "LB" out on IR...Goethel...

Replacement starting "S" out..Giordano...

"K" out or slowed...Jano..

Starting "FB" out for significant time...Reece...

"WR" "Glass Chaz" missed more games...LoL!!

Now damn I know I'm missing someone!!!

11/17/2011 placed CB Chimdi Chekwa on Injured Reserve

I mentioned him as being out...Now for the season...

Just fill in that name baby!!!______________???

Im impressed with the pregame post, take. Personally... I am preparing for the title game in Pittsburgh slush NOW... but at the same time, if the Vikes win Sunday... like Denver did, its gut time. The season is still relatively young and anything is possible in the Wild West, but Palmer IS the difference, and if we pound the rock half as much as Denver, well, can I count this team IN for 2012 Ball?

Report: "What Green Bay achieved in 2010 was simply amazing — qualifying for the playoffs despite losing an NFL-high 91 games by starters because of injury."

Yes, it is all about depth. You have it, you probably win. Football is a game of attrition...and preparation for attrition.

Charger fan whines that we beat their second-team offensive line. Well, too bad.

Indy fan whines that Peyton Manning went down. Too bad, should have planned better for that eventuality.

On and on...

Winning teams are TEAMS, not a collection of 22 starters.

For several years when we languished as the worse offense in the league, we had a mantra.

As soon as we get the offense up to snuff, the defense will settle. I was one of those, and I still believe it.

But, we are there now. The offense is now holding up it's end of the bargain. And, we have been told the sky is the limit for this defense.

So, Nate, your statement, "I think more would be written as the Raiders start proving who they are talking themselves up to be." is dead on.

I for one believe what they are saying, but it needs to translate to the field on a consistant basis.

I'll be minty fresh if we win Sunday and then take care of business in the Black Hole against Da Bears. I think Blanda will be too.

Two keys to the game. Out front seven on defense and our left tackle on defense.

"91" Games...That's less than 6 starters out for the season...

We now have 3 starters on the "IR" and they have been out sense the beginning of the season...48 games!!

We are prolley very close to the other 43 games already with 7 weeks left...

Now add in that one was the starting "QB" being our for 9 games..."GB" did not suffer that loss...Nor did they have a rookie "HC" nor a new "DC" nor did they lose their "GM" leadership!!!...

Why the hell can't you find it in yourself yo pat this team on the back...They are earning that much!!...

I've given plenty of kudos without making excuses.

Hue Jackson doesn't want to hear excuses, so why should I?

If we make excuses, that opens the door to Charger fan to do the same. I prefer to keep that door shut.

There's no question that Raiders players and coaches made no excuses after losses, and I'm guessing neither did Chargers players or coaches.

Fans are the only ones that seem to make excuses, partly driven by the media I'm sure.

Accountability is one of Jackson's top priorities. That's part of what I like about him.

It's time to man up! Play football! And win games!

Panty,

Actually, when Satele when out earlier, line play seemed to improve a little along with fewer holding calls on the center.

But, at left tackle we have Jared vs. Jared. We've only surrendered 11 sacks this year. Since we will have a little more difficulty running the ball this week we need our Jared to keep their Jared in check.

Excuses are for born losers.

Football is the ultimate team sport. The 53rd man on your roster should be EXPECTED to make a positive contribution to the team ... why else would he make the roster, otherwise?

Been off line for a couple of days. I don't know if anyone has said this, but I wanted to say that it occurs to me that the Palmer/Jackson relationship is very much the same as the Gannon/Gruden relationship. Gannon was Gruden's guy, and Gannon became the personification of Gruden on the field. I think the same will emerge with Palmer and Jackson.

1:06 PM
Blogger BlandaRocked said...

Calico, it's not getting down to the 53rd man on the roster that bothers me. It's the picking up pieces off the waiver wire because you've run out of players at a particular position. It's one thing to go with your second unit. It's quite another to go with guys who weren't even on the roster at the beginning of the season.

1:10 PM
Blogger nyraider said...

I think it was Corkran that said that Palmer has shown a Gannon-like work ethic.

I was most impressed last week with his presence at the LOS, where he was calling the play after seeing the defensive alignment. There are only a few QBs in the league that really command an offense like that.

The big play has returned to OakTown...Just like the old day and they said it wouldn't work anymore!!!

Well take a look because this is very much the old Sid Gilman "V-O"...

------------------------------------
The stats supplied by STATS LLC bear this out. Consider: Oakland's 54 plays of at least 20 yards leads the NFL. The league average, meanwhile, is 36.

Hue Jackson's "build a bully" mantra begins in the trenches and, accordingly, the Raiders have a league-leading 17 runs of at least 20 yards this season. The league average? Seven.

And the addition of Carson Palmer has not hindered the vertical game so loved by the late Davis, and embodied by former QB Daryle "The Mad Bomber" Lamonica. In fact, it's only been enhanced. In 76 attempts, Palmer has 17 completions of at least 20 yards; Jason Campbell had 17 such completions in 165 attempts.

And Palmer is seven-for 16 for 237 yards with three touchdowns and an interception for a 104.2 passer rating on passes of at least 21 yards through the air.

4th Quarter in comes my boy Pryor for his turn at the helm…Puts up one “TD” via the run and another threw the air to “DHB” I think???

Raiders 52-17 “V”!!!

Hue Unvails His New Look "Pirate" Formation -w- Pryor-Bush-"TJ" In The "Wish Bone" Option!!

3 “WR” set with “DHB”/Moore/“TJH”…From which several combinations of “O” game plans can be utilized…Wild Cat/Option Run/Max-Protect/Power Rushing/Flea Flicker/Sweeps -n- Reverses are all available and also the “Inverted WishBone ShotGun” where the ball can be directly snapped to either of the 3 with “Wiz II” at “C”…

"Picking guys off the waiver wire, on the couch, or making trades is the regular business of providing depth and upgrading an NFL Team."

There have been past seasons that the Raiders have left injured (IR-ready) players on their roster and even had open roster spots for weeks at a time.

Jackson seems acutely aware of his roster and is continually making needed adjustments to maintain quality and depth.

That's how it's done.

5:07 AM

Funny because if you go look and count we have had one open roster spot ever sense the Jano injury...We gain one and release one but still only had 52 active names until a day or so ago...We had been talking about that on another board...

We suspected it was left open in case Jano couldn't go but it's finally been filled as has the last spot on the practice squad...

But I do like how the roster is being managed for the most part...I questioned only 2 moves...Lito Sheppard being released before the season and CB Sterling Moore who is now starting for "NE"...Glad to see Lito brought back and starting though...

i will always maintain that that palmer trade was very expensive BUT i also admit that he brings a dimension to this offense where deer in the headlights campbell doesn't! laser accurate hi velocity passes (or getting there at least) and swagger! is that worth the price of 2 1st rounders alone? no, only the playoffs and superbowl bring worth to this trade. but for now, palmer is definitely an improvement.

Blogger nyraider said...

I don't question a spot being open as you say. My point is there is purpose to every roster move (and non-move), while this had been one of my concerns in years past.

And I agree about S. Moore and Sheppard.

Speaking of depth ...

With Seymour a game time decision and certainly less than 100%, facing arguably the best RB in the NFL, we need big games from DTs Desmond Bryant and Big John Henderson.

Note to Trainer:
Make sure you bring the O2 mask for Big John who will play more snaps than anytime during the season.

Here's a good story line on the Bush situation...Pro -n- Con but just "Mediot" speculations...
---------------------------------
The Raiders can place the franchise tag on Bush to the tune of $7.7 million or so and keep him around for another season, attempt to sign him to a long-term extension or simply let him walk.

If Bush isn't franchise-tagged, he would be forced to choose between negotiating a new contract with the Raiders or seeking the riches of free agency.

It's no secret that Bush enjoys playing for the Raiders, and the Raiders value his all-around skills.

In the end, Bush might be forced to weigh his comfort with the Raiders vs. an opportunity to showcase his talents as a starter for another team.

Was Just Considering How Things Have Worked Out This Season:

Before the Draft the major speculation was we would be taking that Kapernikernick from NV…Than “SF” moved up and jumped in to trump us…(If Even True??)…We selected “Wiz-II” instead…WoW!!..Now has that ever worked out to our advantage…Kapernikunicaback seemed to be somewhat of a flop last I looked…

During the off season all that talk was going around about who would be our next “HC” and than finally word came down the Hue was promoted…Thank Heaven!!!…I just can’t imaging all that this team has gone threw with someone else at the helm..

Word was we were strapped for $$$ and would be dead in the “FA” market…WoW!!…If ya take a look at all we have done threw trades/"FA"s n Sup-Draft this team was prolley the most active…

The loss of Namndi was suppose to cripple us…Well the injuries certainly have but Namndi looks like a shadow of himself when he was here…

Zack/Gallery were going to leave our “O” desecrated…LoL!!….Their loss has been a blessing and may yet produce a few 3rds next season…

“KC” n “SD” were the clear cut leaders of the west and we would fight it out for the bottom with that “Donkey”…Yikes!!…Now we’re on top with that “Donkey” sniffin our butts!!!

Than more recently the franchise was in the middle of a “Take Over” and being Pirated by Hue!!…Funny that one be now!!

Yup!!…Swallow all that vomit from them’s damn "Mediot"s and all’s ya get’s is a damn Belly Full Of Crap!!!
