Five Postgame Takes
1. So there I was, hanging out on the Coliseum asphalt, cooking meat as the throng grew and the house got packed. The energy was palpable, an energy restored by sustained competence, and now competitiveness, after years of tending to an organizational dumpster fire. What a magnificent scene. There's nothing like the Raider Nation when you add a little hope. That's all it takes. Winning helps, but hope is essential. And hope is back with a vengeance. RAIIIDERRRS! RAIIIDERRRS!
2. It was a strange game, with the red zone struggles and the six field goals. I had to keep reminding myself that the Bears have a good defense, even though we were marching down the field on them. There are worse things than hanging up 25 points on the Bears, even if you have trouble punching it in. Finding a way to win is what it's all about, and that's what the Raiders did.
3. This was my first time watching Carson Palmer in person. He's almost zen-like at the line. Even when he's calling audibles, he exudes calmness and command. No hysterics like Peyton Manning, no wild arm flapping and related theater. The word that comes to mind is POISE. He seems to comprehend each situation with a "been there done that" confidence. His energy isn't red or orange, it's blue. It's a cool energy, but not cold or lethargic like Kerry Collins or JaMarcus Russell. At least that's how it strikes me.
4. Michael Bush had a solid day, but looked like he lacked explosiveness off the line. Was it a consequence of so many carries in the previous weeks? Hard to say. But he was still pretty effective, and his score proved to be crucial.
5. Of course, we had to make it interesting. Who allows Caleb Hanie to chuck an 81-yard bomb on 3rd and 16 from his own 10-yard-line when two more stops ices the game? You know who. Our "Always Interesting" Oakland Raiders.
P.S. Come on, Rolando McClain. We don't know the whole story yet, but we do know that he put himself in a stupid situation. You have to be better than that. That's why you make the big bucks.

Apparently they have a really odd idea of "friendship" in Alabama.
I've heard, prior to the McClain incident, that Jackson has been grilling his players to avoid exactly this kind of pitfall. He's been telling them to be very careful not to let teammates down in this fashion.
I wouldn't blame Jackson for benching McClain until this issue is resolved.
Blanda,
That's North Alabama. In LA (Lower Alabama) we differentiate between friends and acquaintances.

I feel like posting "Welcome Back" but not sure I should???..But have another round of that Raider Kool-Aid on me!!...Been a damn long time!!
I'm going to continue to support "DeathRo" McClain just as before and give him the respect he has eared from me...If in the end he proves to be as the "Mediot"s are painting him than I will have to pimp that he either grows up quickly or gets the fuck out...Somehow I doubt it will ever come to that...
Fish be on the menu boyz..Eat hardy me mates...Yo Ho!!

It doesn't sound good for McClain. Sure, I'll reserve judgement, but that scene should have been avoided at all cost. Incredibly bad judgment on McClain's part!
#3... really good analogy on Carson Palmer. That's exactly how I see him; I just couldn't say it that well. Dude is cool.
NYRaider,
I'm withholding judgment also, but agree he is guilty of bad judgment.
The guy evidently has a short fuse. But, I still want to know what he was doing in Alabama instead of Oakland. Possibly that has something to do with Jackson's statement about the circumstances of the situation.
The mystery deepens.
H
#3 - Nice way of describing Palmer. He is what I call "California Cool" ... it is an unforced, calm, laid-back, confident swagger.
Calico,
Reminds you a little bit of Snake. Doesn't get overly excited or rattled.
H
That's how I see Palmer as well... "Gannon II"... OakToown's on an upswing, ready to bust Pittsburgh or New England in their playoff CHOPS.
PS.... BOOOOYAHHH!!! GO RAIDERS!!!
"H"..
McClain was not practicing due to the ankle injury and was allowed to go to attend his Grandpa's funeral..
Evidently as reported on the last thread by Gary this dude was somehow harassing his family and Ro wanted to get even or make him stop...Associated with his Bros's and possible booze/drugs this very obviously got way out of hand...The gun play may have been to scare the shit out of the punk so he never considers something like this again but all it has done now is open the door for further litigation and possible $$$ rewards to that punk???...
One wrong as usual begets another and another...Retaliation adds to rather than takes away...Now why has that been so damn difficult for many of us to learn???...Talkin about myself here too!!
#3...I'm also in agreement...Very good presentation of our new savior...LoL!!...Not like that "Donkey" Savior in the "MuleValley" that get's all that hype...Ours can actually throw that "Pig" and play "QB"...
I saw allot in "CP3" while he was a Bengal...Enough to want him as a Raider and Pimped that to happen...But I admit I didn't see as much as he's showing us now wearing the "Silver-n-Black"...Very exciting and still improving...
PantyRaider...Please Put Ro In Coach!!/_
Not a very happy thing to read but if true McClain's in some shit???

Panty,
I found out it was his Grandfather's funeral. I guess it was general knowledge to some, but was totally left out of most of the stories.

On the good news front, Jakikowski practiced Friday with no limitations.

What??...This is what I was posting for the Raiders to do with Pryor weeks ago before the Vikes game...Now I have to go find it again!!

It may be a last place team, but this game may be a watermark for this season. These next three weeks are our rough patch.
If we win, it shows we can sustain success, and overcome adversity. We are travling to the East, playing in a 10:00 AM Pacific time game. Temp will be near 80 with humidity. But, we need this one bad because after it we have the following:
A long five or six hour flight back to the West Coast, practice for GB then fly to GB where the weather will be a polar opposite of Miami (pun intended). Long range forcast calls for high around 30.
About 10,000 miles of travel, weather extremes, time changes, etc. Then we get to host an angry Ndamukong Suh coming off his two game suspension.
This three weeks will determine our playoff worthiness.

We Can Ill Aford To Lose This AFC Game.....The Tie Breakers Issues Are Already Against Us Enough!!
With all the hype now being given to Tebow by the NFL…Stretching already into next month as his pic will be featured on their 1st ever release issue of the new “NFL Magazine”…We can expect that “Donkey” to get the "Zebra"s help in winning to stay alive in the AFCW race…That’s just a given!!!
Stumble now and we prolley fall…This week therefor is the “Must Win” of all “Must Wins” this season…I’m sure Hue and company are all very well aware of that also…I can’t help but believe that if Ro gives us the best opportunity to win that he shall be in there giving it his all while trying to win back both his team mates and coaches as well as us fans…While sticking it in the eye of those fucken asinine "Mediot"s who chose to print that worthless damn “Smiling” pic above all others world wide…For no other purpose than to shame not only Ro but our team and fans as well…Along with the memory of Mr Davis!!…
The part that Ro has played in this has stupidity written all over it while not being intentionally motivated to shame our proud franchise…But make no mistake about it…The damn fuckin "Mediot"s who chose that pic above all others very much intended to shame the memory of Mr Davis and this proud franchise…I condemn them for their ignorance and their actions!!!
Now someone PLEASE find me a shameful pic of that NFL “GodChild” so I can spread it throughout the universe in retaliation!!!…
PantyRaider....Damn That “Donkey” ASS!!!/_
I will gladly add it to this!!

i don't think i'm going on a limb by saying this but i think mcclain has just shot our season to hell. pun intended. he WILL be suspended by the team, and the nfl. this is the qb of our defense, a supposed leader. this team will suffer the rest of this season. mcclain may be innocent until proven guilty but at the very least, he's shown immaturity, temper issues and possibly a mental problem. kirk morrison was a model raider. was and is probably still a fan. he may not have been a great LB but at least he carried himself with class. this guy is a loser because he hangs around with losers.
there's just no other way to say it man. i'm really pissed about this.
h,
that's alright. suh can come back in time for our game. he'll just get his dumb ass ejected again and that'll guarantee our win!
Scorpio...
This:
----------------------------------
McClain is mending fences now, but bounced from home to home in his teen years as his Mother struggled with authorities and a diagnosis of bi-polar disorder.
When he was 11, Rolando’s father was arrested for selling cocaine and given 3 yrs probation but wanted his son to learn from the error of his ways, taking him to the Huntsville airport to watch him wash dishes, teaching his son “There are better ways to make a living”.
When he was 17 he left home with “The clothes on my back and a scholarship to Alabama” after a conftontation with his mother ended in her arrest.
In December 2005, McClain received a court order to keep his mother away from him, according to court records. “We got into an argument,” McClain’s petition said. “My mom pushed and hit me several times. She left the room and got a knife. She threatened to kill me.”
Despite their tumultuous relationship McClain insists his Mother taught him core ideals and most importantly, right from wrong.
For the young McClain, family struggles extended beyond his Mother.
In the Decatur housing project McClain grew up in drugs and violence were prevalent. Gang rivalries developed between the city’s two high schools. The kids at Decatur High were known as the “Homeboys,” and those from Austin High called themselves “Cash Money Boys.” Fights between the groups were common.
McClain took these lessons to heart and though he fled the strife of his teen aged home life, he maintained rare focus and phenomenal study habits through out his adversity.
---------------------------------
I'm giving the guy some time here...Jano got past it and I Think Ro will too...
By the way reports are he was in the team walk threw practice so perhaps he will play...I think that's best for him and the team...
I, for one, am not buying the "shot past his ear" story. Unless it was a bb gun, that would do some damage to the ear drum, I'm guessing... this sounds pretty fishy to me.
I'm also guessing he starts on Sunday... or maybe sits the bench for a quarter at worst.
Gary...
Can you say "Powder Burns"???
If this had happened there would be some evidence of it!!
yeah ok panty i understand his background. but dude is a multi-millionaire starting linebacker in the nfl! with all of the football smarts, dedication to the game and leadership qualities he has why is he hangin' around with losers?
Scorpio...
Never should allow some folks to return home...At 22 he prolley gets around his Bros and and gets led around by the nose even though he's head and shoulders above them...Hope he see's by now that he has his ticket punched to get out and never go back and takes advantage of that...No doubt their there pulling on his purse stings crying "Remember Me Bro" every chance they get...
Well onto to bigger and better fish to fry...I'm really hungry for some "Dolphin On A Platter"...Problem is I just can't seem to get as fired up for this one as usual...Hope the hell our team isn't feeling as flat as I am about this week's game!!!
PantyRaider....GOOOOoooo Raiders!!!/_
panty, you mean we hope they're not looking ahead to green bay... this'll be a tough game...

dammit huff! 1st run from scrimmage and he misses a tackle. what happens? 1st down dolphins!
2 three and outs to start. we look flat. dolphin d is fast and lookin' good so far.
The dolfins probably expect a lot of #29 so why not give them what they expect. Come on Hue!
we're NOT getting any penetration or pressure on their qb...
we're lucky they only got 2 FG's so far. LET'S GET GOIN" OFFENSE!
running game is going nowhere!
Good God!
What a nightmare. No Jones means no outside break away threat. I thought he was going to play?
time out miami. that's pretty much the only thing stopping them right now...
we're not doing good on either side of the ball. no pressure from our d line, offense is flat. this is gonna be a LONG freakin' day!

seymour gets tossed. that's it! composure lost, game lost.
Scorpio-
Sobriety also lost. I am on my third beer and it is not yet 2:00 in Chicago. The fins are nobodies. What is going to happen next week at GB?
34 - zip. this is UGLY! a blowout! time to catch that plane home! this game needs to end right now!
probably the same damn thing. i mean look at this dolphin team. who are they? and what's the packer's record? what was that trophy they won? the packers have got to be drooling all over themselves by now.
they lost their focus thanks to mcclain.
boy! the dolphins can't do anything wrong. re: these tv announcers: at least dierdorf is trying to call a fair game. his partner gumbel just made a smart ass comment to take them to commercial "34-0, raider fans read it and weep". while dierdorf is almost encouraging the raiders to get something going for the sake of confidence...
alright, i'm outta here. i've seen enough of this crap!
O has an excuse with no McF, Moore, Ford and Jones.
What is the D's story? I know Hue is a rookie and with AD gone a GM is coming in the off season. Maybe even a new D coord. I know this will take time. This is just very frustrating.
(These fkrs just went deep up 34 points)
Dierdorf has been a hater for years, don't be fooled. Gumball has always been an overt hater. I was in St. Louis during the Super Bowl run. Out of the elevator comes Gumball. I looked him right in the eye and said - "on behalf of the Raider Nation, you suck"
But today we suck.
Day gets worse- the Jesus mules are going to win
If they win the division I will kill myself.
way to give up first place bi-polar Raiders! our schedule doesn't get easier, but neither does the doncos.
up next, green bay.
not only will rolando be suspended for his stupidity, looks like we will lose seymour as well for going suh and throwing a punch.
great job gentlemen, way to let the team down.
unfreaking-believable
Why cant Hue get creative and run a two TE passing set?
Where was the no huddle?
Plain ugly. The Dolphins have a good defense, but not that good. Seymour needs to get a handle. He's probably used up all his warnings. Today he might have drawn a suspension.
GB then Detroit? Yikes!!
The offense can be fixed with our main impact players returning, but gawd can this defense be awful! There doesn't seem to be any direction... Breshnahan rarely blitzed until the game was out of hand (allowing, once again, a marginal QB to get in rhythm) and the arm tackles and horrible angles are all over the field. Its glaringly apparent all QB's know we never pay attention to the idea of scrambling for first downs. Our LB's cant cover and never hit obvious holes (even on 3rd and short). The defense could not be any more obviously under coached.
Both lines got blown off of assignment. Bush looks DONE and cannot pick up a blitz to save his life (like he gives up on the play unless he is carrying the ball).
We need 30 plus points a game from here on out folks... McFadden, Moore and Ford to the rescue??
I see 9-7 yet... maybe an outside shot at playoffs.. but until we get a real DC that is capable of coaching UP the defense (instead of down) this team is mediocre at best.
I'm sick of hearing "it's me" from Jackson, he's right! the play calling sucked from the get go... he said they'd been watching the Dolphins surge of late and knew they were no pushover but then they go in there looking like they had no game plan. We have so much talent on the team and yet we look nothing like a playoff team... the message to the fans today was the same as every year, "don't get your hopes up, cos we're guaranteed to let you down. Seems the next man up we need is a proven play caller... and a GM.... scratch that, how about a new strength n conditioning coach cos, unlike other teams, our guys can't seem to come back from injuries.
As for McClain's day-off, words cannot express the level of dumbness!
The Fins' lines dominated and manhandled our lines. We lost this game in the trenches.
We've got a tall task in front of us when you consider the Donkeys are on a serious roll (6 wins in last 7 games) and have 3 home games left.
Both teams face elite teams (us GB; them NE), both teams face KC (us on the road; them at home); and both teams face tough yet struggling teams (us Det & SD; them Chi & Buff).
If we lose to GBay (a reasonable assumption) then the Detroit game will be the equivalent of a must win/playoff type game to determine. our season.
TERRIBLE COACHING.....TERRIBLE RUNNING BY MRS. MICHAEL BUSH....YOU ARE A CLOWN BITCH.....I HOPE THEY DONT BRING HIM BACK NEXT YEAR
COME ON HUE GET YOUR BUTT OF YOUR FINGER.....MAYBE THEN YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO USE YOUR FINGER TO POKE YOUR NOSE
HUE'S A STUPID IDIOT AND CHUCK'S A FRICKON JACKASS. RT, BREAK OUT THE CLOWN CAR? I CAN PICTURE BOTH OF THOSE MORONS CRUZING UP AND DOWN I-880 IN THE CLOWN CAR. WHAT A JOKE!!!
SCALR8R
HUE, I'M GETTIN TIRED OF YOUR OLD SELF CENTERED,THIRD PERSON EGO. COACH JACKSON THIS AND COACH JACKSON THAT. BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!
RAIDERS NEED A REAL COACH NOT THIS FKING FOOL.
that game was painful to watch. yeah theyre injured but dammit they still could've taken this team! i put this ass kicking on mcclain's shoulders! they lost composure and focus in more ways than one because of him. playoffs? sheeeeiiiitte! gotta worry about the next game which is almost an automatic loss, which made this game so damn important with the donko's breathing down our neck (now tied). so now what? back to the drawing board hue? i say if ya ain't fixedit by now it ain't gonna be fixed! i hope while they're in green bay, they kidnap their asst GM for our open GM spot. damn whats his damn name again? supposedly he's one of the hottest and up and coming personnel guys in the league. hopefully he can stabilize things. but thats next year. right now we just worry about freakin' surviving!
It is looking like we will need to run the table after the GBay game to secure the division and a playoff spot.
Postgame take is up...The Clown Car is rolling.
