Chargers Gamenight Thread

Well, it's Pryor or bust this year...Unless that's Josh Freeman on the other end of the line.

Last week's loss was painful, but easy to pin it on Matt Flynn. Now, Flynn's ship has sailed, and Pryor returns to captain the ship.

Tonight is the kind of win we need. It's a defining game, the difference between tumbling down the slippery slope toward another woeful and wayward season, and scratching our way back into the discussion of progress and direction. The Chargers aren't world beaters. This is a winnable game.

My theme for tonight, therefore, is "turning the tide." We're at risk of being washed out to sea right now. It's time to steady the course and find our compass.

it sounds like we may land Josh Freeman. I'm surprised Minnesota is not making a stronger push. I'm not so sure about Freeman though. I like the upside of Pryor.

That is a big win...CHARACTER is what the team showed.

Yeah, DJ Hayden is a bust, really? As you can see by playing Manning and Rivers, that the Raiders need plenty of good DB's if they want to be even close to contending in the WEST division. Hayden looks better each week and Rivers was going after him big time tonight and Hayden did well.

Hey man, how can anyone say this team isn't moving forward? They looked well coached tonight, for the most part, players played hard all game....Special teams were excellent. And they are only going to get better as the year moves along...I like this team and I like the way they play the game, I like the direction and can't wait until more talent is added...movin on up.

So you're saying there's a chance. Loved this game, it's nice to watch us just compete for all four quarters.

That was worth staying up to watch! This win should give the Raiders some confidence going into the Chiefs game.

Nice win. ...our 11 year old daughter strolls thru the living room during Q3 and notices scoreboard, says "they're winning?" Love the honesty, and we all laughed... A well defended game, lots of run without DMac and solid decision making by Pryor made the Necessary Roughness exhibited more than just an antidote for being down, but an exclamation point. 2016 is just on the horizon, be patient..!

Sounds like they don't want to wait to dump Flynn. Bringing in QB's to tryout. That's what we want to see, if a player can't cut it, no matter if the GM brought him in or was drafted or makes big dough....he will be gone if he can't do the job. AND, they don't F around getting it done. No one is coddled or given special treatment, do the job or you are out.

McFaden is GONE...he will not be offered a contract, IMO. The running game is better without him. A top RB will have to be signed next year, draft some O-line, get a good TE and look out.

Pryor makes defenders look like they are running in mud. These are NFL players that he is running away from and he isn't even going at full speed.

It's amazing to watch and when he gets out of the pocket and makes a throw downfield...you can see the defenders getting pissed off. Al Davis' final pick looks like a big WINNER. Here come the Raiders, and what are the haters going to do...when the Raiders run wild on you....

"Bringing in QB's to tryout."

What QBs came in for tryout? Freeman was only rumored, and the rumor included Allen offering him to be the starter.

If the Raiders want (or plan) to dump Flynn, they should just dump him. They have three serviceable QBs in Pryor, McGloin and Wilson.

While Allen says the right things, I don't get the way he keeps treating Pryor. Pryor has played well all season except for one pre-season game. The only real inability that Pryor has shown is a inability to carry the entire team and coaching staff on his back. None of the QBs to whom Allen is showing interest are capable of that either.

Pryor gets better every week, and yet every week Allen seems more and more determined to replace him as soon as possible with just about anyone.

I guess what really irks me is that Allen reportedly told Freeman he would be the instant starter over Pryor. That would indicate to me that Allen has the number one overall draft pick in mind. There is no way Freeman would look any better than Palmer did when he joined the team mid season in 2011.

For my money, you give Pryor at least as good a o-line as we had in 2011, a true franchise running back, and an elite WR, and then see how deep in the playoffs Pryor can take you.

Are you 2 idiots? 1st, Raiders are bringing in Carr and White to take a look at. 2nd, it's not about replacing Pryor, it's about getting a better backup?

RUMORS, oh so you believe that Allen wants to replace Pryor? It isn't about being 'serviceable' it's about getting as solid a roster as possible.

You guys cry about what a mistake Flynn was, then the regime wants to correct it and you say that rumors tell us that Allen hates Pryor and wants to replace him? RIDICULOUS.

Aren't you the same poster (balanda) that used that Yahoo article as 'proof' about something that turned out to be bullshit?

Now you are spreading the disinfo about Allen promising Freeman the starting role? FFS's, Allen has proven that he doesn't just give a guy a position, you have to fucking earn it.

So why would Allen "promise Freeman" the position....SOB just loves to stir it, doesn't matter if it is true or not, just stir it.

Jones - you made a generalization about QBs being brought in. I don't spend my time trolling the Internet like you, but I check a few sites daily and have yet to see any news about the Raiders bringing in QBs.

Instead of being such an ass (although, that's clearly your nature), maybe you could direct folks to the news link(s). I'm sure others are interested as well.

All you have to do is ask...or google, that's a tough one, hey NYR?

You see, if someone writes something on a blogger site like this and you may not know the info being presented.....google it, it searches and everything.

All you have to do is click on the highlighted letters and it will take you to the info. It's pretty easy, good luck.

As far as generalizing, telling me I "troll the internet" unlike yourself? One rule for you... just like the other crew members....YOU ARE IN THE CLUB, way to go.

Yeah and let's keep it real. These RUMORS are just that, stop spreading them like it's truth.

Allen promised Freeman the starting job...what a crock of shit. Some will write anything to try and undercut what is happening in Oakland. And they call themselves fans?

They can't wait to try and prove the new regime as incompetent and will jump at rumors to prove it. Someone mentioned being in a foxhole with these guys...you wouldn't make it out alive with a knife sticking out of your back.

Less of these type of fans, the better. If it ain't the old way, then they don't like it...Allen represents the new way and they despise him for it. Not Raider fans....you know who fans.

I have to agree with Jones. There's no way Freemen would be 'given' the starting QB job. He would have been nice insurance; although, he's been pretty piss-poor the last couple of years. The issue with Pryor BTW is that he hasn't been able to implement the entire playbook. However, he's still improving and I like his competitive fire. Most importantly for me at this point, he's been fun to watch.

Request For BlandaRocked:

Back up your opinions with something remotely credible.

"While Allen says the right things, I don't get the way he keeps treating Pryor"

{how has treated Pryor badly? You mean by naming him the starter after pre-season? By holding him accountable? Please, expand specifically on how DA is treating Pryor unfairly}

"Pryor gets better every week, and yet every week Allen seems more and more determined to replace him as soon as possible with just about anyone."

{do you mean when he made the sound decision to protect Pryor by starting Flynn when Pryor requested a visor due to light sensitivity? Name one time, excluding medical reasons, that Pryor hasn't been DA's guy? CRICKETS}

"I guess what really irks me is that Allen reportedly told Freeman he would be the instant starter over Pryor."

{sorry but this is unfounded poppycock. DA hasn't given or made any promises to ANYONE as far as starting. If you've got a link, source, do the right thing and reveal it otherwise it is rather shameful on your part because it doesn't meet the sniff test whatsoever.}

Got to say Blanda, this is stooping to some pretty low levels. Lose the agenda and get behind the Raiders. You are a Raiders fan, right? DA wants to win, Pryor was picked by Davis, the Raiders are showing improvement, and you want to make up complete BS? I feel sorry for you.

As far as I am concerned, Blandarocked is either a troll or very ignorant of how things work. Firstly, bringing in players is Reggie's job, not DA's. Playing players is DA's job and if DA doesn't like a player, they aren't going to plat. Think Seymour, McClain, Wilson and Flynn if you need examples of how DA operates. The guy is stand-up, take it on the chin honest and admits his mistakes. Since DA has nothing to do with negotiating with players' agents, he wouldn't be making promises of "starting right away". Since Reggie let's DA run the team, Reggie couldn't make such a promise either. Not one of the reports I saw mentioned Dennis Allen specifically in regards to the rumors of Raider interest in Freeman. That is a "creation of Blandarocked. The Raiders keep saying they are interested in bringing in anyone who can help the team get better. If they did have any interest in Freeman, it most likely is as a veteran backup to Pryor. The only backups on the roster are unproven rookies McGloin and Wilson. Coaches are very nervous about throwing unproven rookies into the breach in the heat of battle.

Also, there were multiple reports of the Raiders bringing David Carr and one other QB (whose name escapes me at this late hour) for workouts this week, prior to the news that Flynn had been released. Again, this supports the idea that the Raiders are searching for a veteran QB backup to Pryor, who has already missed a game due to injury. The Raiders LOVE Terrelle, especially DA, because he makes things happen and gives them a chance to win just about any game.

There is a very good chance that rumors that the Raiders promised Freeman a chance to start could have been "exaggerated" by Freeman's agent in order to increase his value. The Raiders do always say that everyone competes to stay, play and start. But they don't make starting promises, not even to Flynn.

And kudos to Reggie for admitting the mistake on Flynn, taking the appropriate measures of releasing him from the team, and not forcing DA to have him in the locker room as a sour presence.

I think Jones, Calico Jack and Avantgrape already covered this latest blowup by Blandarocked, but the guy really bugs me for writing such gibberish.

Also, @RaiderTake, your pre-game threads have been right on! Prophetic in many ways and crystallizing my own pre-game thoughts, worries or projections.

The play of the under experienced, over injured offensive line has been just shy of amazing. Once these guys get healthy, get to know each other, the play book, the system and have some time in the trenches together they could be way above average.

Defense and special team play was very good last night. Glad to see the INTs, especially the one for JD Hayden.

http://nbcbayarea.csnbayarea.com/raiders/reports-raiders-frontrunner-sign-freeman

"The Raiders are a frontrunner to sign quarterback Josh Freeman, according to reports. Freeman was released Thursday following a public rift with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and is looking for a team where he could start posthaste.

"The Raiders have reportedly given him that option. NFL.com reports that Freeman has talked to 10 teams and that the Raiders are the lead dog."

What's the matter, children? CSN and NBC aren't good enough sources for you?
