Quick Postgame Take

Wow, that was decisive. The defense was actually punishing at times, exhibiting some good old-timey Raiders mojo. Carr is the real deal. That was a grown-ups victory right there.

yeah, Reggie is so shitty, ----question....who built that roster? Mark? Who has this team on the verge of something special? When was the last time we saw such domination 2 weeks in a row? How could this be happening if Reggie was a one legged GM? I told you why it took the time it did, the reason for the Allen hire, now the fruits are blooming and look at this place, stone cold quiet because you are SPEECHLESS. It looks good on you = fuck = Go Raiders.

Great win! Jets have among the best Ds in the NFL. Carr is the man. Lots of drops and he never wavered. Lots of YAC. Solid all around.

Never speechless, Jones.

Rich Gannon revealed during the broadcast that Derick Carr was a big influence in the decision to draft Cooper. But don't take Gannon's word for it. Right?

FYI, Behind almost every decent personnel decision is JDR, an assistant coach or roster player who lobbied to bring that player in. Maybe that's the way it works in the NFL, and listening to his players and staff make Reggie a better GM. But he is far from the genius you opine.

Enjoy the win....

Of course Carr was used as a resource, he is a major part of this team. If a GM isn't using all of his resources to make decisions, he won't be a GM for very long. Once again, you show that you have no idea how these processes work, therefore making your OPINION is MUD. JDR walked in at the right time, a time that was setup in the previous years of trying to rebuild the Org. But don't let the truth stand in the way of your bullshit brigade = you are an asshole.

NYR - Seems to me that you are a having a very tough time dealing with the fact that the team that has turned the corner was built by RM. Why? The comment about Derrick Carr giving input about Cooper is pretty lame. We all know that the ultimate decision and accountability falls on RM whether it is a good pick or bad. Also, I find it laughable that you suggest that picks were pre-ordained for success sure things. We had high picks from 2003 on. Look at our 1st round picks from 2003 to 2012. How well did we do with these picks? The other part that bothers me is assigning credit and blame in such a non-contextual way. The reality is that not only is the game itself a team sport, the front office is a team. The owner, GM, HC, and staff are work together in their roles to impact the organization's success. My observation would be that Davis, RM, and JDR are all working in harmony with a common purpose.

Sorry, I don’t see RM as the quintessential GM you guys do.

Plenty of fodder from failures to chew on there.

Jack, please show me where I said draft picks were “pre-ordained for success sure things.” What I said was some picks were obvious. Big difference. And why the strawman? Are you really comparing AL drafts to post-AL drafts to counter a point I made?

RM has made plenty of mistake in the offseason, especially with Free Agents. He hit it on all cylinders this offseason. Bringing in Crabtree, Helu, Malcolm Smith, Crabtree, Ball, Gabe Jackson, Donald Penn, re-signing CWood, Asante, Aldon Smith, and even Mario Williams and DJ Hayden has seem to be paying off this year. He's made little mistakes, but he's made mistakes as well. Letting Sio Moore go was huge, keeping Lofton and Ray-Ray, and Trent Richardson. But no where near the past few years. I think his saving grace has been the turn around he made on the salary cap and developing a true organization in the front office, ridding the Raiders of the jokers that served as "yes" men to Al Davis that kept the Raiders in yester-year. Now we are seeing that style of good management on RM's part effect the players on the field.

The biggest difference, IMO, is the hiring of Del Rio and his staff. I've said it the last 2 years that I felt the Raiders had the talent, but poor coaching had cost the Raiders the opportunity to win and be winners. The Raiders have turned the corner as an organization and a team. Now, only if Del Rio and Norton will get rid of the "Bandit" Prevent Defense, then the Raiders will be elite. Just remember, this is the group that wanted to play here in Oakland. This is the group that turned things around for Oakland. I'm so freaking excited, and hell, I should be! We all should be proud of the Raiders!

We've got a tough schedule still. Traveling to Pittsburgh, back at home vs. the Vikings (who are for real too), the Lions, Titans, Chiefs, Doncos, Packers, Chargers, and Chiefs. I think we have an excellent chance to put an exclamation point on our season if we beat the Steelers and Vikings. The Lions and Titans scare me, even though they only have one win. They scare me because the Raiders tend to play to the competition. For the first time since Gruden, our OAKLAND RAIDERS may pull out a 9+ win season. I feel the Raiders can realistically end the season at 11-5. JUST WIN, BABY!

Nate said...." I've said it the last 2 years that I felt the Raiders had the talent,"

And once again, this is why your OPINION is mud. No they didn't have the talent (TP at QB?), FFS's, not even close. The Coaching has been a huge upgrade, but once again, the team and Org had to be built up before a decent Coaching staff would take on the job.

Sio Moore is doing nothing in Indy, he is done as a player by the looks of it. Ray Ray is still in Oakland because the LB core still needs upgrades that were not available at this time. Richardson? He was given a shot and he failed so he is gone, how is that a mistake?

For you armchair GM's, EVERY GM makes mistakes, just the way it is, no GM hits on high percentage of his deals/picks, but Reggie is pretty close.

Hue Jackson took a team without talent to an 8-8 record. I could care less about the Carson Palmer deal because look at how Palmer is doing now in Arizona. Hue was a good coach that got thrown under the train by Reggie and was replaced by a guy with no HC experience, and only one year as a D-Coordinator who road the coat tails of John Fox. Where is Dennis Allen now? What about Jason Tarver? Anyone know where these clowns are? Dennis Allen is an assistant for the worst defense in the league and the worst defensive coordinator in the league ... New Orleans and Rob Ryan.

Tarver is currently the LB coach for the 40whiners! How's that going for Sad Fran? Greg Olson is the OC for the Jaguars. Tony Sparano is the TE coach for Sad Fran. Eric Mangina is the DC for the 40Whiners.

Don't tell me that the Raiders have had good coaching with no talent. I will tell you one thing, the Raiders have had better talent than 11 wins in 3 years. Matt McGloin, DA had a year with Derek Carr, McTripOvertheLOS, CWood (this is his 3rd year back), they had Justin Ellis last year, Sio Moore, Mack, and the same O-line.

In 2013, they had McGloin (who came in over Pryor, but even still Pryor was electric in some games with the Raiders), Streater, D. Moore, the Wiz II, Veldheer, Lamar Houston, Roach, Sio Moore, and yes Tawain Jones, etc. Look they had talent, but the coaches did not know how to utilize the talent they had. The Raiders still have a group of young players who are clicking together with the talent they have because the coaches know how to utilize them. Look at the difference in play that Hayden has had in the last 3 weeks. Yes, he still blows coverage at times, but he is turned a corner, literally. That is from good coaching that builds his confidence.

I'm not saying that Reggie is going to be perfect at everything he does either. He even admits his mistakes, but his patience and staying the course for his vision as GM is starting to pay off. I was at the point where I didn't know how much more patient I could be. It started with Reggie hiring Del Rio. Now watch, Oakland is going to be the place that Free Agents want to come play for this next year. All because of Reggie, Del Rio, Norton Jr, and Musgrave. Let's not forget Mark Davis in this process either. The guy knows his strengths and weaknesses as an owner, and he is an incredible guy who listens to people around him, and listens to the fans. That was proven this last Thursday when he showed up at a town hall meeting in Oakland about the Raiders stadium situation unannounced! He not only answered direct questions, he stayed for 3-4 hours afterward and hung out with the fans. Al would have never done that!

As Raiders fans, we have every reason to be excited and optimistic. Yes, there are still positions that need upgrade (ILB, CB, RB, RT), but Reggie is getting it done. The coaching staff is utilizing the talent they have (who would have thought that T Jones would have ran 59 yards for a TD yesterday?). The Raiders are finally showing what we as fans always thought they were capable of. And it starts with Mark Davis and Reggie McKenzie, works down to the coaches, and then the players. JUST WIN, BABY!

I for one have no problem giving Reggie full credit for this turn around. But it certainly was hard to see this coming based on Reggie's first two years.

And lets be honest, Reggie had some help. Reggie may very well have not hired, JDR, if not for Mark Davis, "helping" him see the way.

And Al Davis ? There are still some links to the legend. Cwood, Jano, Taiwon Jones, Reese, are all playing well.

When team is winning, there's plenty of credit to go around.

Yeah - Mack from Unif. of Buffalo, Carr the 4th qb picked from Fresno, Jackson & Ellis in the later rounds -- these were all SURE things!

I don't have blinders on. I know that RM has made plenty of mistakes. However, he stuck to his plan of (1) deconstruct (2) build primarily through the draft. Guess what? He had patience and the good fortune and backing of Davis to get to this point.

I find it repulsive that so called Raider fans find it hard to give RM credit where it is due. Is it because they put so much dirt on his grave that now they boxed themselves into their own pre-written narrative which is that the Raiders are doing better in spite of RM?

Even if you don't like RM for whatever reasons, shouldn't you find some joy in your team turning the corner? Hate to say it but it seems like some of these alleged fans don't want players that RM picked to do well to fit their narrative instead of just enjoying their TEAM'S success. Pathetic!

I find it comical now that the media is trying to paint the Raiders as overconfident. That could be said of the Doncos, Bengals, Packers, and Panthers. I read an article on NFL.com about this, and the story ended with, "though beating the Steelers in Pittsburgh would certainly turn some heads."

Come on? Really? I think getting a win on the East Coast (regardless of who the Raiders play) is priority. How long has it been since the Raiders won on the East Coast? Yeah! Beating the Steelers in their house will be another big win that will further build the confidence of this team. I think it is a must win road game. The Raiders have to win this road game.

In all honesty though, I think the win over the Jets this last week would be the bigger win of the two. I also think the game against the Vikings in 2 weeks is going to be the biggest game of the three (Jets, Steelers, Vikings).

The 9ers traded Vernon Davis to the Doncos. I think the only reason why the Doncos made this trade is because the Raiders have had difficulty covering the TE. I don't know what I find more difficult to believe. That V Davis makes the Doncos a little more dangerous, or that the 9ers have totally given up on their fan base and each other. Does Kapernick get traded to the Texans or the Jets? I say the Texans.

I would like to see the Raiders trade for an Inside Linebacker, maybe a fourth/fifth round pick to the Texans for Brian Cushing.

I was wondering what your thoughts are on the big 12 getting a complete lack of respect in the college football bowl series. Regards Sandy

4:00 AM
Anonymous Raider Nate 75 said...

The Big 12 is a joke, their game schedules alone are deserving of their ranking. Baylor hasn't really played or beaten anyone. They have played SMU, Rice, Lamar, and the only ranked teams they will play are Ok State, and TCU. If they want to be respected, they need to play tougher non conference schedules.

Oklahoma St hasn't played anyone. Central Arkansas, Central Michigan, and UT San Antonio were their non conference games. They will lose to TCU this Saturday (one of 2 ranked teams they play, Baylor is the other). Speaking of TCU, they have played Minnesota and TX Tech. They still have Oklahoma and Baylor. Baylor and OK St will be the only teams ranked they will play this year. If the Big 12 wants to be a power house, they need to schedule non-conference games like power houses do. Get Notre Dame, get Bama, get LSU, get Michigan, get Michigan St. They can make it happen.

I'm a PAC guy anyways. I think that is the conference getting overlooked. I think the PAC is just as tough as the SEC. Top SEC teams this season - Bama, LSU, Miss St, TX A&M. Mid SEC teams - Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Missouri. Low teams - Arkansas, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt (14 teams).

Top PAC 12 teams this season - USC, Stanford, UCLA, Oregon, and Utah. Mid PAC teams-Oregon St, Arizona St, Arizona. Low teams - Cal, Washington, Washington St, Colorado.

I think USC and Stanford could beat any of the SEC's top teams. I think UCLA could beat LSU, A&M, and Miss St, but not Bama. I think Oregon and Utah could beat A&M and Miss St.
I think it is split in the Mid teams. I think Arizona St and Oregon St could beat Georgia, TN, and Missouri, but not Florida or Auburn. But I think Auburn and Florida beats anyone at the mid level. I think Arkansas and South Carolina can take any team in the PAC low teams, but think it would be interesting to see the rest play out.

Jack Del Rio and Derek Carr, two guys that the Raidernation can hitch their hopes and dreams onto.

It's been an awesome surprise to see the Raiders get this competitive this soon. I hoped this year The Raiders would surprise everyone including myself, but before the season started I thought this year would be a bridge year and said anything more then seven wins, would be like playing with the house's money. So to see The Raiders team clicking in so many phases, and to see Derek Carr, mature from a qb with potential, into a top 10 qb in front of our very eyes? so nice...

Does anyone else feel like there isn't a game on the schedule the Raiders can't win?
This week against the Steelers is going to be another test for this team. Are the Raiders going to fall back into the pack of regular joes with a loss or are they going to ascend into the conversation of contenders with a win?

SCAR - Premature as it seems, Raiders are already in the conversation of contenders. Some in the media have pointed out that if the playoffs started today, Raiders would be a wildcard team. Without making any predictions, Raiders have a chance this week to advance that prospect with an important conference game.

That thought aside, just to have a winning record this time of year seems like new territory.

Btw, Steelers players are suggesting they can "win out" the rest of their season. Hopefully, they're busy looking past the Raiders.

Anonymous Raider Nate 75 said...

SCAR,
I was in the same boat as you this offseason. At the same time, I was excited because I thought the Raiders picked up 2 needed positions. 1. Quality coaching - Del Rio, Norton Jr, Musgrave, and support coaches. This was the one big factor I felt was missing when RM fired Hue Jackson. Jackson proved (to me) that the team needed good, quality coaching that knows how to game plan to the players strengths. Dennis Allen and crew were uninspiring, inexperienced, and scheme coaches regardless of strengths or weaknesses. That hurt the Raiders, and this year it is quite obvious that it hurt the Raiders. Especially when you see the majority of coaches for the Raiders last year, are coaching with the 9ers. Look at their difference. Not players, coaching.
2. Quality WRs - Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree. Yes, we still have holes, but things are coming together nicely for the Raiders (knock on wood).

To answer your questions:
Does anyone else feel like there isn't a game on the schedule the Raiders can't win?
I agree, I think the Raiders can win out. However, I have concerns. This Sunday is one of them, on the road against Pittsburgh. It's been forever since the Raiders won a game on the East Coast. Time to break that streak. The Vikings, Packers, Lions, and Titans are my other concerns. The Vikings are another team like the Raiders. None of the pundits expected them to be where they are. The Lions and Titans are concerns because of the Raiders past tendencies to look past opponents with losing records and playing to the competition. These next 4 games are the biggest concern for me. Then they have the Chiefs, Broncos, Packers, Chargers, and Chiefs. I think they can win those games. I think the Packers and Broncos are lucky and their luck is about to run out.

This week against the Steelers is going to be another test for this team. Are the Raiders going to fall back into the pack of regular joes with a loss or are they going to ascend into the conversation of contenders with a win?
I feel this way about the next 4 games, not just the Steelers. As discussed early with Sandy, the Steelers game is the biggest of the 4 because of it being an East Coast Road Game, and potential Wildcard tie-breaker. This is a MUST WIN game for the Raiders. These next 4 games will define the Raiders' season. I am expecting 4-0 and will be happy with a 3-1 run.

I don't want to jinx the team, nor do I want to blow my wad at this point in the season. If the Raiders get through these next 4 games 4-0 or 3-1, I think they are in a position to win the Division. JUST WIN, BABY!

Nate I agree about coaching. We didn't know how bad it was until it wasn't.

Btw, Raiders already broke the eastern time zone jinx with a win in Cleveland. I think the last ETZ win before that was in Pittsburgh, with Gradkowksi at QB... his best game as a pro.

The secondary is stil a work in progress but the front seven is killing it. The addition of Aldon Smith has made our front seven particularly stout. With Mack & Smith and DE/OLB opposing offenses are not getting to the edge, period!
Good luck trying to run inside the tackles with Jelly, Dan Williams, the Young Mario III, & a rising Autry. Malcolm Smith is essentially our mike linebacker with Lofton's snap count dropping weekly. Yeah, you're going to have to take your chances with our steadily improving secondary.
I imagine we'll be checking Sean Smith's interest in filling one of our CB positions as his 6'3" frame and physical style seem like our preferred make up on the edges.
Maybe even Josh Norman who's killing it in Carolina if he doesn't price himself out of consideration.
Is Myles Jack going to be stepping into that position next year as our first pick?
I'm more excited about next years draft than these last few because these upcoming picks will be the ones that catapult us to perennial Super Bowl Challengers!
This Raider team is obviously getting better on both sides of the ball on a weekly basis and having said that, the explosiveness of the offense has been an incredible surprise. 4 players on offense have 3 touchdowns already.
The oppositions scouting report breaks down like this, "You're going to have to account for all their skill players because all of them are scoring!"
What about our pass protection?!?
This is all a little too much to soon Raider fans. Our team has called our bluff and then some.
The 50th Super Bowl would pretty much be a home game when you think about it.

What about the inability of the Corners to cover a guy, or the soft "prevent" defense they've been playing? Excuses don't count. Play agressive despite the score, be the elite team you want to be.
