Jaguars Gameday Thread
I'm sorry, but you can't give up 116 points in three weeks and not get the Clown Car. I've tried to resist busting out this RT original meme in 2019, but now I'm as powerless as the Raiders' secondary. You just can't go on a historic run like that without getting the Clown Car.
The good news is that we're playing a beatable foe today, and it's never too late to right the ship and end the season on a positive run. It starts today, GO RAIDERS!
P.S. To all the resident inmates here, thanks for keeping the fires burning even when the playoff hopes are going up in flames. 00, NY, Nate, Denise and the rest of you. Sandy, stick around if you can, your voice is valued, this place is never easy but we persevere. 5er, have fun today, there's nothing like the Coliseum experience, there'll never be anything like it once it's gone, soak it up and do report back.

Thank you, RT. We may keep the lights on but you keep the door open. It has truly been a pleasure being part of this blog for so many years. It wasn't always completely friendly, sometimes downright heated, but we all have one thing in common, we love the Raiders.
Best of luck to everyone going to the game today. This is an emotional day, even out here on the east coast.
Raiders need to make a statement today!
I can only imagine the energy and excitement in Oakland right now. The Raiders will win this game (1:08pm CST/11:08am PST as I post this comment). The Raiders know how important this game is, the weight, I imagine is almost unbearable for them. The will to win is there today. For the fans, for the city, for what will forever be their home. Regardless of where they play, they will always be associated with my birth city, Oakland.
This day has been heavy on me every since they announced Vegas, and now it is here. I feel bad for the people of the city, who's gov't let the Raiders leave. 3 viable solutions presented, and the city/county reneged on tax-breaks for businesses to develop, support, and even rejected the Raiders from purchasing the vacant land across the freeway so they could outright own the rights to the stadium absolving the city/county from having to do upkeep. For all who live there, do yourself a favor, give the mayor the boot out the door, and elect officials that are willing to develop the city. The powers that be have done the same to the Golden State Warriors as well. The last 2 years they have promised that they are going to keep the A's and give them a new stadium, etc, etc; and now they are reneging on that and may lose the A's; and the city of Oakland without anything. So this goes beyond the Raiders, Warriors, and A's; this is the elected officials of the city refusing to allow businesses to develop in Oakland that will bring careers, revenue, and new life into the city. It's sad. It is more like the death of Oakland, than it is the Raiders leaving.
RT, Sandy, NY, 5er, Panty (I know you still swing by), Jones, Calico Jack, everyone else on this site whether you comment or not; I hope you have a terrific Christmas/New Year. I pray your holidays and 2020 are filled with love, family, and blessings. I hope you have felt my appreciation and respect here, and I value you and your opinions as well. I know we don't always agree, but that is ok with me, and it helps me see how others view it; but we come here and commune over a team we all love, and that is the Raiders. RT, thanks for keeping the door open; I hope you are doing well my friend. Sandy, I hope you stay and share your thoughts, I hope that I have shown everyone here the respect we all deserve, even when we banter. JUST WIN, BABY!
Wow! What a colossal disappointment. I feel bad for every fan that attended the game. What a way to end an era.
The defense tried hard but they are the other side of what has become a totally anemic offense... despite incredible performances by Jacobs and Waller.
As good as Gruden/Mayock have been at some personnel decisions, WR is not their thing. Tyrell Williams should never take another snap for the Raiders. He should be hanging out with Nelson and Grant by this time tomorrow. How many times does Williams have to drop an easy 3rd down pass to get cut?
What a shame!
Shutout in 2nd half, 2nd week in a row. Somebody tell the Raiders a game is 4 quarters!!!!!!
The Mark Davis stink show is leaving Oaktown, and heading for Vegas.
Wheeeeeew....whats that awful smell!!!!!!!!!!
Sadly, for an entire generation of fans, yesterday's ending couldn't have been any more perfect of a way to close out the Coliseum: jobbed by the refs, a stupid (though righteously justified) penalty, a moronic play call, a choke by the offense, and the defense putting up NO defense as the other team easily walks down the field for a game winning score. It was everything the Raiders have been over the last 19 years, neatly encapsulated in two minutes and five seconds of game time.
There has been plenty to be optimistic about this year. There has also been plenty of indication that nothing much has changed. I joined The Nation when the Raiders moved to LA so I've seem way more losing than I've seen winning. As such, I don't have the attachment to the Raiders being in Oakland that most do so I'm eager for the change of venue in the naive hope that a fresh start might break this cycle of awful
-Movie Dave
Movie Dave, your first paragraph: I was thinking exactly the same thing, you took the words out of my mouth, I may re-use them.
I'd be honored :)
My thoughts about yesterday in haiku:
Raiders say Goodbye
Their fan's sorrow has no cure
Left to die inside
I like that too, Movie Dave... a microcosm of what the Raiders have been. Perfect!
And while there's hope, there's still no proof.
I guess I'm still hoping for the proof.
The Raiders have been outscored 78-9 in the second half since Week 12. One second half TD in 4 weeks was, presumably, in garbage time.
I hope we're not blaming all that ineptitude on WRs. Because I don't see how drafting a WR and maybe signing another FA WR (after a long list of FA WRs already made it on and off the 2019 roster) will make THAT big a difference.
The problem runs much deeper.
If the Raiders can't figure out a way to salvage one of the last two games on the road, they will have dropped their last six games in 2019... before heading into Vegas.
NY, the difference is play-calling. No half time adjustments by Gruden on offense whatsoever. The last 4 weeks, the Raiders have given up 136 points, 57.4% of those points (78) were in the second half. The Raiders have scored in these last 4 weeks 49 points, and only 9 in the second half.
A lot of fans are blaming Carr, and he shares the blame. He has missed some open WR's, or has moved through his check downs quickly (w/o pressure) and thrown the ball away; but a big part of this is on Gruden coming out in the same formations, not adjusting how they line up, shifts, lack of play-action passing, etc. The last 4 weeks an opposing defender has said that they know what the Raiders are going to run by how the O-line sets, how certain WRs/RBs move in motion, or by who is/is not in the backfield. That is 90% of the play, the other 10 is execution of the play.
To tell the truth, I am hoping Gruden gives up some control of the offense and hires a younger guy who can help. Call me crazy, but this is where I hope the Cowboys fire Jason Garrett, and the Raiders hire him to be the OC and axe Olsen. JG is a terrific dude and could really help this Raiders team. That is my observation, of course you can disagree if you wish. Bottom line, Raiders have to win these next 2, and possibly without Jacobs and Trent Brown. Gruden hinting that he may even let Kizer take a few snaps; maybe that will light a fire under Carr. But what we (as fans) really need to see is what is Gruden capable of. He needs to open it up and get creative again.
The lack of halftime adjustments has been talked about a lot in recent weeks but it's been a problem all year. Gruden is still learning on the fly. Hopefully, what he is learning is that he has to do better. He definitely needs more help, and I don't believe Olsen was ever the answer.
I guess when you consider the 2019 Raiders had one of the NFL's best O-lines, best TE trio, and top tier RB, it really boils down to the QB and play calling. WRs are definitely in that mix too but, as I suggested, I don't know how you can reasonably pin this level of ineptitude on the WRs.
I may be breaking tradition over the next couple weeks. I haven't missed a live game since satellite was invented. I can't take much more of the 2019 Raiders. Their inability to close out the Jags game, leaving a stadium full of rabid fans (and all of us) totally dejected was inexcusable.
These last two road games are as meaningless as a 3rd game in pre-season. I'll take one out of the Jones playbook and suggest the best thing the Raiders can do to help themselves is tank the remainder of the season. An easy way to do that is play Kizer and other young players in place of starters.
There's nothing else to see in 2019. Second verse, same as the first.
Las Vegas Raiders!
Funny, Gruden now says he wants to open things up. Not sure what to make of that. Is that only a valid approach when the Raiders are out of contention?
Bears are 7-7 with Chiefs and Vikings left. I don't know the exact order as it stands but it seems conceivable the Raiders could end up with back-to-back picks in the first round of 2020 draft.
Remember, the Raiders didn't get two first rounders straight up for Mack. They gave up their 2nd round pick in 2020 in a 1-2 swap, and I think a conditional 5th round pick. Fortunately for the Raiders, the Bears are almost as bad as the Raiders... potentially leaving the Raiders with a solid mid 1st rd pick in their wake.
6-10 Raiders and 7-9 Bears is well within reach.
This guy wants Raiders to lose, you are not a fan
That's rich coming from the guy who says teams tank the end of the season to score better draft picks.
It is amazing to me that as this crappy season comes to an end, the Raiders are still alive for the last Wildcard spot. I'm rooting for the Texans, as I think this (and a win in Denver) will be our chance.
Carr has the best passer rating in the NFL on 3rd downs this year (129, I think), and the highest in the NFL since 2009 when Aaron Rodgers had 133 rating on 3rd down. He had 4 incompletions against the #4 passing defense in the League yesterday. Finally ran into the end zone without diving to the pylon with one hand on the ball, and actually scored, instead of fumbled.
Raiders finally made some great adjustments during halftime, and came out swinging in the 2nd half, they played 4 Quarters of great football for the first time all season. Hunter Renfrow had his first 100 yard game EVER! Never had one in High School or College. Chargers did good job (for the majority time) covering Waller and Williams, but left Renfrow open. Sharpe replaced Parker, and the offense seemed to thrive better, Parker is just lost out there. Great Raiders win yesterday, time to go to Denver, and punch the Doncos in the face. JUST WIN, BABY!
The Raiders reached deep down for this win. When you see guys like Crosby, Renfrow, Mullen and others out there playing hard and making plays, there is certainly some confidence that Mayock can potentially repeat in the 2020 draft what he did in 2019. Raiders have something like five picks in the top 90. That's the real hope for Vegas and moving forward.
Snap counts were revealing. Things were changed up a bit, partly because the Raiders dealt with some injuries.
However, it was interesting to see that Whitehead and Morrow lost considerable snap counts this week. Whitehead registered 61% and Morrow only 29%. Not sure if either was injured.
Coincidentally, or not, the Raiders have played some of their worst defense this year when these two guys have played the most snap counts on defense, i.e., at or near 100%.
If you watched the game yesterday then you saw LB Will Compton all over the field making plays. This guy was signed off his LR couch and has come in and easily outplayed every LB on the Raiders roster. Compton was in the LAC game 100% of snap counts on defense... and it showed.
Whitehead is a gym freak but he sorely lacks football skills that the Raiders desperately need. Morrow has been a fringe player since college. If either of these guys make the Vegas Raiders roster, we will still have a problem at LB.
This is a different Donks team than Raiders played in week one. They are playing more young guys, and seem to have better speed than earlier on.
Should be a good test for Raiders, who have a long shot playoff hope on the line. Just want to see the Raiders compete, and not lay one of their road game blowout loss eggs.
From Hard Knocks to the AB freak show, to suspensions and injuries, to Gruden challenging every official's call (good and bad) that he could, this has been the craziest season since Al Davis had to bust out the overhead projector on Lane Kiffin.
It will be interesting to see if the Raiders have any gas left in the tank because they've been playing on fumes. Count on the Broncos wanting to make sure the Raiders don't have a chance.
Might be a good time for Raiders fans to buy a lottery ticket because, if your 2019 Raiders are lucky enough to make the playoffs, you might want to test that luck....
Merry Christmas to all!
If you are busy with other activities in the morning then it is always a good idea to go with evening desert safari Dubai.
