Chargers Gameday Thread
Well, I'm late to this one, it's halftime, but let's face it, it's over. GO RAIDERS?
UPDATE: Well, it WASN'T over, that is until McDaniels THREW the ball with first and goal and Josh Jacobs on his team and a rookie QB.
This is getting into fireable territory between last week and this one.
63 Comments:
It's criminal the way Ziegler has put zero resources into the offensive line. Sandy
Having a rookie QB pass with first and goal from the three yard line. WTF!!!
NY, you said it Tillery just makes losing plays. Sandy
RT, you are right. McDaniels is a terrible play caller. There was a ton of time on the clock run the ball Jacobs was hot. Rolling out an immobile rookie qb to the short side is self sabotage. Sandy
Q: Can a HC make boneheaded calls with time running out and the game on the line two weeks in a row and not get fired?
I guess we'll find out.
Terrible play calling. They can't fix the running game because they continue to run the same plays and expect different results. Chargers play calling looked more dynamic and smarter.
Tillery! Need I say more?
O'Connell threw behind his receivers all day. Adams looked miffed at times.
Honestly, Adams and Crosby deserve better than to have to play for the Raiders.
Oh yeah, almost forgot; so glad we traded Mack. What did he have, 10 sacks today? I lost count.
The run game showed some signs of life. Sandy
There was also multiple bad calls against the Raiders, Crack back block, offensive pass interference against Jacobi, Herbert td that wasn't and no call on offensive pi on chargers last play of game. Sandy
Raiders always have bad calls against them every week. McDumdum needs to go. O line gave Mack 6 sacks, I guess we feel bad for trading him? Our defense cant stop the run or pass. We will not win more than 4 games this year. Deplorable. Just Lose, Baby.
McDaniels is a bumbling idiotic teenager. Every third word is "you know". Watch thus clip its unreal https://x.com/VicTafur/status/1708638173189009590?s=20
Sandy, yes, the Raiders did find a spark in their running game, but they started the game running the same plays and getting the same results. I'm stunned by the lack of imagination in play calling. Rookie QB is no excuse. He's been with the team as long as Garoppolo.
Not to take away from all the bad officiating in other games, but the goal line stand on 4th down ended up being the difference in the game. TV showed Herbert did not make it on 4th down.
Raiders defense was more aggressive but what about all the mis-tackling? Worst was Deablo getting Herbert in a bear hug and letting him go to make a play. That's gonna sting in film review.
At the end of the day, I can truly appreciate the sentiment of Maxx Crosby that he's sick of losing. But in reality, he's got nothing on us (fans) over the past 20+ years.
Hate to say this, but with Donks winning, Raiders find themselves right back in the Caleb Williams sweepstakes.
Really, what other hope do we Raider fans have but to finish 1-16 and have a chance at drafting Caleb ? What will 4 or 5 wins mean, except that Zeigler can take another big stiff instead of Caleb.
So now is not the time to fire terrible HC, Josh McDummy. Raiders need McDummy to coach this team to losing out the rest of the season.
Imagine the nightmare if the Donks were to land Caleb. Raiders would be mired in last place for at least a decade. Mahomes, Herbert, and Caleb, all in the division...Raiders might as well not even show.
Zeigler's follies cannot find a QB in draft, just like he couldn't find a DE with a top 10 pick.
So lets suck it up, let McDummy work his losing magic, and pray 1-16 is bad enough to land Caleb in the draft. Like I said, what other hope do we have ?
Plan on the Raiders winning just enough games to make crash those hopes.
And nobody is tanking the season. Tanking the season would destroy the locker room and any hopes the Raiders might have for fielding a team with their top players next season.
It might happen on some levels in all sports, but remember a few years ago when Gruden called a 2 pt conversion to beat the Broncos in a totally meaningless game to end the season, and he lost a draft slot in the process?
I expect more of that.
Mark Davis and the Raiders have no answers.
Ghost, Drake Maye looks like a franchise QB as well and should be available in the top 4. If they finish outside of that the LT from Penn State Fashanu or CB Kool-Aid from Alabama woulcd be solid picks. I can't believe we are talking draft already lol. They do ned to get rid of McDaniels before next season. They really need a solid culture builder who the players will respect. I have been pounding hte drum a long time for David Shaw.
Sandy
Like every regime before it, McZeigler will find a way to dismantle the Raiders before they leave, meaning Jacobs, Adams and possibly Crosby will be gone.
Maybe Davis will step in before the fire sale.
The Eagles, Bills (when McDermott came aboard), Dolphins, Chiefs (back when Andy came aboard), and Lions have all turned their franchises around within two seasons with a new HC, with little roster movement or fire sale. I think the Jets are close to turning things around with Saleh, but their QB depth is horrendous. Why can't the Raiders do this? Because they keep hiring coaches who run things through their system and not the strength of the players.
Josh Jacobs said it, "The team is undisciplined in how we play." That starts with McDumdum. I can't believe how ridiculous this is. He wasn't just talking about Tillery either, he spoke of 5 or 6 plays where the Raiders didn't have it together; meaning McDumdum didn't have it together. Hondo Carpenter wrote last week that McDumdum is about to lose the locker room vets if they lost to the DunderDolts; I think he lost them before this game. If not, it seems he has. Time to go, bring in a defensive minded HC like Jonathan Gannon, and let him cook. If we can't get this right, then Mark Davis needs to sell. Tired of losing, Baby!
Nate75,...All the teams you mentioned, and I guess you can add the 49ers to the list, were able to find a head coach/GM combo that had a vision and were able to quickly build on that vision.
I think Reggie Mckenzie is working in the Dolphins front office. Maybe Mark Davis should get on his hands & knees and beg Reggie to come back.
Reggie wasn't perfect, I think he whiffed on his first HC choice of Dennis Allen, but compared to what has followed, Reggie looks like a genius.
The Zeigler/McDummy combo has by far been the worse. They can't identify talent. They don't know what their doing, and they don't know what to do !
Agree Ghost, at least Gruden Mayock were able to identify gems occasionally like Crosby, Renfrow, Deablo, Miller, Waller etc. The new regime has made one good move Adams everything else has been a negative. Sandy
BTW Jalen Carter has 21 qb pressures second among DTs to Donald's 22. Sandy
Agreed Ghost, Reggie was building a team in the trenches without fire-selling the team. He brought some good players in, and drafted some who we thought would be good (Treyvon Hester, PJ Hall, Mo Hurst), but ended up not putting in the work. Ironically, Mo Hurst is doing pretty well in Cleveland this year. Like any good GM, he is going to swing for good talent, and miss on some.
The difference with Reggie and those who have come in behind him; Reggie wasn't interested in playing it safe. He would have drafted guys Jalen Carter, Devin White, Patrick Queen, and other guys that we badly whiffed on in the recent years. Not sure how you fault that.
Sandy, I would have liked to have seen what Mayock would have done without Gruden. It is a known fact that Gruden picked the first 2 or 3 rounds, and left Mayock to do the rest. Gruden badly whiffed on his picks. With that said, if I had to choose between Mayock or Reggie, I'd bring Reggie back in a heart beat.
He set the tone on both sides of the ball in the trenches early in his regime. O-Line: Rodney Hudson, Donald Penn, Gabe Jackson, Kelechi Osemele. That was a solid line, just lacking a RT, which Jon Feliciano could have been today.
On the D-Line: Justin Ellis, Jihad Ward, Khalil Mack would have all been serviceably great today; and put that with Crosby and Koonce; look out, we may have had the #1 D-line in the League had Reggie been able to work his magic. I really don't think we'd be in this situation.
Are you guys serious? The Raiders have failed at every level of coaching, personnel and management for the past 20 years and you're wishing for a return of more of that?
You said yourselves that other NFL GM/HC combinations have succeeded in a 2-year window, yet nobody who has worked for the Raiders has come close to that, ironically, except for the one guy who was quickly expelled from the team, Bill Musgrave and his offense. And that was closely tied to Derek Carr, who was also expelled.
IMO, bringing anyone back who has already failed the Raiders would be a colossal mistake.
Please tell me we can do better!
This is the kind of thought process Al Davis went through when he brought Art Shell back.
This is what happens when amputation is so bad you simply wish for more torture.
Gruden was on the right track and building something. He had some major whiffs but they did make the playoffs and he had Carr playing his best ball. He also was a Raider. You must get a coach MGM that will rectify the soul of the team . Reggie was doing that and so was Gruden Sandy
They need to bring in Jim Harbaugh next year he is a former Raider staff and an amazing coach. You can bet he would change the culture. Sandy
I disagree about Gruden. The 10-year $10M per year contract Mark Davis signed with Jon Gruden was, IMO, self-serving, and not in the best interest of the Raiders. Gruden (and Mayock) certainly didn't meet the criteria of any GM/HC combination mentioned above. Clearly, Gruden's best days were working with Al Davis and Rich Gannon, then beating a Raiders team which he helped build with the defense that Tony Dungy built. It was all downhill from there... until the TV contract.
Sure, Harbaugh could be the next trophy HC for Davis who he will have to overpay to coach the Raiders.
There's no simple solution, as 20+ years of failure after failure tells us.
Hiring McDaniels was a valiant effort by Davis. Who knew McDaniels sucked so bad as a play
caller. How's that even possible?
Darren Waller said the Giants offense "isn't good enough." Funny, the Raiders trade Waller and draft arguably the best TE in the 2023 draft, then the TE position goes missing from their offense.
Unfortunately, the Raiders offense wasn't a problem until McDaniels arrived. Again, how can he be this bad at play calling?
Ironically, Belichick never hired an OC after McDaniels left. Instead, he let Matt Particia call the offense. Apparently, that's how much the Patriots think of their OCs.
Here's a video which Mark Davis gets into a yelling match with a fan imploring him to fire McDaniels. It's as ridiculous as it sounds.
https://www.raidersbeat.com/video-rowdy-raiders-fans-call-for-josh-mcdaniels-to-be-fired-mark-davis-tells-them-to-smarten-up/
That video is awesome. Mark should take some abuse for what is going on.
Sandy
What is not on the video is Mark Davis responding to them, and telling them to "Smarten up." He is not going to oust Josh McD mid season; but not sure if he will at the end of this season.
Deplorable
It's completely childish of Davis to even engage with the fan. Davis allowed the ticketholder to win that battle, which doesn't say much about his ownership chops and probably explains why we keep getting our asses handed to us.
Its worrisome that after one month none of this year's drft class has contributed anything. Wilson criminal to take him over Jalen Carter, Meyer has what 2 catches and is not a good blocker, Bennett, Tucker and Young have done nothing. And why in the hell do they not use Renfrow that is so bizaare.
Sandy
Hey, its' fall! get your flu plan going!
The Jab I don't know if you should get it! You might want to try other things first!
Get the things at different stores/ pharmacies that can help you fight the flu.
And try to use things at home to help fight it too.
* We love the Raiders because they are our team! We need to stay loyal and we need to be supportive of the rest of the season!
But, we need to ask the Raiders to make changes to their program while they are trying to win:
1. lower season ticket prices by 40%
2. try to have discounts for fans traveling to L.V.
* the team isn't doing things even like a bad-mediocre team. it(Raiders) just goes along and brings in players and building the team just enough to look like its' able to work but it isn't doing EVERYTHING to try and win now! it has a lot of money but it won't bring in more talent its' keeping things working but not trying to make it better. the NFL/ media hype it and try to make it seem like an o.k. team but doesn't question its' actions. it seems the super bowl is the goal- for money not to have a winning season.
* Don't make K. Mack a HOFer yet, he had a huge day but the team isn't gelled or ready to dominate. the OL is new and isn't really that good so Mack's game is very good but not great.
Wow!, we sure like to be mistreated! we sure love to support silliness! and when they put money above winning fans shouldn't say they can't complain to the team because nothing is gonna happen, they save money and we spend to make them richer; its' not the greed that bothers us its' the complete lack of worry or communication with Raidernation. maybe they can turn it around but they need to talk to the NFL/ owners and get something working to put some work into this team to try and win now or at least bring in more coaches/ players to help us win now!
Sandy, I can't argue Wilson vs Carter but IMO Bennett is showing real promise. CB is one of the toughest positions to acclimate in the NFL. Not sure his stats - and he's made a few mistakes - but I've seen Bennett break up several passes. Tucker is lightning fast, which he demonstrated on an end-around. Let's face it, unless your name is Adams or Meyers, you're not getting any targets in McDaniels offense. It wasn't until Week 4 that they found Jacobs in open space.
NY, Bennett rates 110 out of 112 corner backs. His playing time with severely cut back in the last game. Sandy
Again, outside CB is a tough position to step up from college. Didn't it take Asomugha 3 years to become a starter?
But I get your Jalen Carter argument. However, here's another take on that. The Raiders thought they made the right move with Wilson, but probably not because they thought he was better than Carter. They had already signed Jerry Tillery to a big contract, and they were already committed to (overpaying) Nichols. IMO, they saw edge as a greater need.
Obviously, that was a mistake, because Tillery and Nichols both suck and Carter is unblockable. Like Bennett at CB, Tillery and Nichols are being supplanted by Bulter and Jenkins.
Plenty of mistakes to go around.
The idea that Mark Davis would tell anyone to, "smarten up", is laughable.
When is Bozo the owner going to, "smarten up"?
I just hope there are some Raider fans at the Packers home game in Vegas Monday night.
Hondo and JT the Brick have both talked about Raiders' fans selling their tickets. Hondo approached it with the sentiment that Raiders' fans are not willing to pay premium price for garbage product, and until the Raiders turn it around, get used to Vegas being a place for visitors. JT the Brick however, chastised the fans doing so, and hit the "homer drums" of "you should support the team no matter what" garbage. I am of the first opinion right now. I am not, and will not dole out cash to support or purchase anything related to the Raiders until they turn their garbage product around.
With that said, if the season ticket holders really want to hurt the Raiders, don't sell you tickets; let the seats be empty. I get it, either way you had to pay for the tickets; and Mark Davis and the Raiders still get money for those tickets; but they lose money on hotels, parking, conscessions, and an empty stadium speaks louder than one full of visiting teams' fans.
I thought about going to a game this year, and have decided against it. I may revisit this if McDaniels is fired after this season, but it is dependent on who they hire. Tired of Losing, Baby!
NY the good news is both Tillery and Nicholas can be cut after this year with no dead cap. As far as edge as a greater need unless they knew Chandler Jones was going to melt down I am not sure how they came to the conclusion. BTW, Tillery is only making 2.5 mm this year not a big contract by any means. When your defense is the worst in the league you take the best player available no one on planet earth could make an arguement that going into the draft Wilson was better than Carter. The Raiders outsmarted themselves. Rumors were they wanted to take Paris Johnson but when Arizona grabed them they switched. Christian Gonzalez would have been a great pick as well. All that being said last game I watched Wilson on every play he was in and his play has gone from horrendous to very bad. Seriously he has made some progress and had what seemed like two pressures. Moerhig played his best game of his career. Mad Maxx is the best watch the videos below.

Ghost it is a shame about the lack of home field advantage, I miss the black hole. The Raiders should have been allowed to go to LA as last Sunday showed they are easily the most popular team in Los Angeles by far.
Sandy
This Carter thing has a story that none of you are touching. Carter had a run in with cops for something that is still on-going? Then, he shows at the combine and quits in the middle of it. Do you guys know what a red flag is? The top 6 teams all passed on Carter, but, the team with a few of his former teammates in college, picks him. It almost seems like a contrived situation by the Eagles and Carter. It would not surprise me that the red flags may have been a setup to get Carter into Philly. Reminds of when Pete Rozzelle would not allow the Raiders to trade for Elway on the draft day. It's still early in Wilson's career, he still has plenty of time to develop into a good player.
Someone on here told me that it wasn't the fans selling off their tickets to rival fans, but instead, it is corporate greed that was behind all the rival fans? They are not Raider fans, they are money fans. They are probably making huge profit on those tickets and couldn't care less about the Raiders.
It's good to see the fans starting to turn up the heat on Mark, he has to know that Raider fans have had enough, we want something solid we can actually cheer for. Fans are turning away in droves, Mark is running out of time.
Its being reported that the Broncos are releasing Randy Gregory. I think if this happens, the Raiders need to sign him. Not sure he is willing to sign with a team that is not a contender, however. He is asking to be released so he can compete, and the Doncos are willing to do that. Of course, they may be looking for a trade partner, but may not find one willing to take on his $14 million salary; meaning the Doncos are on hook for all or the majority of that salary in a trade scenario. I'd be willing to trade Josh McDaniels and Patrick Graham for Gregory.
"The Raiders outsmarted themselves..."
What's incredibly frustrating is that this mantra repeats itself with every regime.
The last regime brought us Ferrell, Leatherwood, Abram, Arnette, Ruggs and so many other duds. Probably none were ranked near where the Raiders picked them. You may think Ruggs was going to be good, but the Raiders have a knack for this type of screwup too. Truth is, the best WRs drafted behind Ruggs, i.e., Lamb, Jeudy and Jeffries are all stars... and Ruggs is a felon.
It's par for the course if you're a Raiders fan.
Sandy,...Also keep an eye on Lucas Van Ness. Packers took him with the 10th pick. They are using him as a hybrid linebacker/edge rusher. He has non stop motor, just like Crosby, hustles, and is a smart player. Another whiff by Zeigler in the draft. Look for Van Ness to make some noise against the Raiders Monday night.
If the Raiders have a reason to tank the season and keep their mouths shut in the process, here it is: Caleb Williams!
Williams apparently listed the Raiders as one of only a few teams he'd play for next year. He has 1600 yards passing with 21 TDs and 1 INT in five games so far this year. Huh?!
He's getting endorsements and other revenue that might entice him to remain in college another year. Along those lines, the NFL lowered its pay scale for rookies years ago, but sometime later the NCAA makes it ok for star college players to receive monetary payments. With Williams celebrity, he could potentially make more money in college than his rookie contract as a pro.
As for his playing skills, Patrick Mahomes step aside!
I'd be okay to tank this year if we could secure this kid.
Ghost,
I actually watched Van Ness a little bit as you pointed him out in a previous post. I will keep an eye on him Monday, hopefully he does not make noise lol. Bryan Breece on the Saints has performed well also.
The Athletic had an article today about who ar ethe top rookies at each position. Including honorable mentions 85 players were listed the Raiders had on Jakorian Bennett. Van Ness did get an honorable mention at edge see below a few of the positions
Edge: Will Anderson Jr., Texans; Tuli Tuipulotu, Chargers; Byron Young, Rams
Honorable mention: Felix Anudike-Uzomah, Lukas Van Ness, Keion White, Colby Wooden, Myles Murphy, Zach Harrison
Defensive line: Jalen Carter, Eagles; Bryan Bresee, Saints
Honorable mention: Gervon Dexter Sr., Kobie Turner, Karl Brooks, Keeanu Benton
Tight end: Sam LaPorta, Lions
Honorable mention: Luke Musgrave, Dalton Kincaid, Will Mallory, Josh Whyle
Sandy
NY, as much as I like the possibility of Caleb Williams, what good will he do with Josh McDaniels as his Head Coach? I don't think it changes anything for the Raiders as long as he is the Head Coach. They ONLY way Caleb Williams becomes as affective as Mahomes, is if he has a coach that can utilize the strengths of the roster, instead of the coach's scheme.
Josh McDaniels liar. https://raiderswire.usatoday.com/2023/10/04/raiders-double-team-khalil-mack-twice-6-sacks-chargers/
Nate, in fairness, McDaniels has a record of success with a good QB. You can say that about a lot of coaches. And the opposite is true as well. Sure it was a stupid call that ended the Chargers game, but not all QBs throw the INT. The good ones throw it away to try another play. O'Connell made a rookie mistake. Still, it was a terrible play call with the Raiders needing to burn 2 1/2 minutes off the clock to send the game to OT.
McZeiglers' problem is just what has been stated above, they overthinks and, in the process, often outsmarts themselves.
Drafting Wilson over Carter, signing Tillery over proven DL talent in a deep FA field, casting aside Carr in favor of Jimmy G (who clearly is not better than Carr), retaining O-line thinking they can coach up marginal talent. These just scratch the surface.
Williams will be an impact player wherever he goes. If the Raiders are so lucky to draft him, he will merely outperform his coaches.
Raiders are now in a stretch which 4 or 5 of their next 6 games are winnable. If they succeed during this period, that could give them the momentum they need to also succeed down the final stretch. If not, their remaining schedule will likely burry them. Then it becomes a question of whether McDaniels can survive and if the Raiders lose enough games to make the Caleb Williams dream a reality.
Personally, I don't think McDaniels can lose enough games to enter the CW sweepstakes and still keep his locker room from imploding on him. If he loses the locker room, there's no surviving that. He's already on thin ice.
Here's an article which the author believes McDaniels created a burner account to defend himself on social media. The posts (responses) on the so-called burner account appear calm and precise in terms of insider knowledge. If true, that's creepy... and makes Chandler Jones look like the sane one.
https://www.raidersbeat.com/did-josh-mcdaniels-create-a-burner-account-to-defend-himself-on-social-media-it-sure-looks-like-it/
Chandler Jones just accused Josh McDummy of killing the Raiders offense!
Hey wait...He's right!!............LOL
NY,
"Nate, in fairness, McDaniels has a record of success with a good QB." All of his successes with QB's did not come as Head Coach. He has yet to have that kind of success as a Head Coach. In fact, all of the QB's he has had under the Head Coach title have digressed: Cutler, Tebow, Carr, and now Crapollo. I'd hate to see what will happen to O'Connell, let alone Caleb Williams.
Ghost,
Also, Chandler Jones was today years old when he found out he was cut by the Raiders, on Twitter. He claims his agent has not informed him, nor the Raiders. He is also claiming that the Raiders are drugging up Maxx Crosby and Josh Jacobs and pimping their wives. This guy has either completely lost his marbles; or they are trying to silence him.
Again, in fairness, it didn't matter that Belichick was HC and not McDaniels. It was Tom Brady! What has Belichick done since? And your list of QBs that includes Cutler, Tebow, Carr and Jimmy G, none of them are (or were) elite. Tom Brady and (soon to be) Caleb Williams are elite.
It was well publicized that Jimmy G is a winner because of the great defenses. Carr has not been so lucky. Tebow was never a decent NFL QB. Cutler was good but inconsistent, at best. Caleb is a next level QB. The kind who can make a head coach a star in the NFL.
Workaholic Rich Gannon helped make Jon Gruden. Gruden flamed out after Dungy's defense got him to the SB. If you remove the Bucs SB year, Gruden has a losing career record. He's propped up by may Raiders fans as a savant of NFL coaching but his record suggests much different. Sorry, but it's true. Gruden and Al Davis and Rich Gannon were a great combination and about to make the Raiders into what we all wanted, until Al traded Gruden. There's no recovering from that... TO THIS DAY!
NY,
YOu are wrong about Gruden he was a great coach. When he came to the Raiders they were in disseray and he turned them around and built a playoff winner and super bowl team. He changed the culture. He won a superbowl with the Bucs and had a number of playoff appearnaces with out ever having even an average QB. He had a winning record there. He came back to the Raiders and built them into a playoff team yes he ws 10 games under 500 but he also rebuilt the team so there was going to be bad years in reality just one 4-12, then 7-9, then 8-8 then the playoff team. These are facts. To me that is success. We all know you hate Gruden but enough with the distortion. Now you are saying Bellchick is not a good coach lol.
Come on man go back to hating on McDaniels there you are making sense. I suppose Bill Wlash was a crappy coach because he did bad at Stanford and only won because he had Montana and Young. Let's see how many superbowls Tomlin wins without an elite QB. I look at Gruden in Tampa a little bit different he did what Tony Dungy could never do win a superbowl. Is Andy Reid only good because of Mahomes.
Finally I believe Drake Maye will be a better QB than Caleb
Sandy
Stake Holders, the Super Bowl, Money, Gruden, C. Jones, D. Snyder!
Whats' up Raidernation!?
What doesn
When Al ran it!:
Raiders, winning, winning, new stadiums, threats to move, winning, Raiders, Raidernation, winning.
Now! we are just playing and waiting for the Super Bowl and new stake holders!
And this is what NFL way is about? Wow! you guys are waiting for the Raiders to turn this around?- no, you're being loyal to a 'brand'. And this is what being a model franchise is?
First, I never said Belichick wasn't a good coach and you know it. Not sure why you felt the need to spin that.
Unfortunately, we have to conflate eras to make your point about Gruden being a good coach. I've acknowledged many times that Gruden I was a success which Al Davis irreparably damaged by trading him to the Bucs.
You and I differ on the success of Gruden II.
Put it this way, if you give all Gruden credit for winning a SB in his first year at TB, I suppose Callahan then deserves all the credit for making the SB in his first year as HC for the Raiders. By extension, the 10-year contract and slow-walk back to the playoffs in Gruden II was absurd.
First thing Gruden did was trade Mack, which the Raiders still haven't recovered from. Unfortunately, Mack schools the Raiders every time we play against him. Gruden traded Cooper and accumulated enough draft capital to create a new world order in the NFL then proceeded to waste it through bad judgement.
But where the rubber truly hits the road is, the Raiders didn't make the playoffs under Gruden II. Gruden resigned barley out of the gate with a 3-2 record, after losing two ugly games in a row. It was Rich Bisaccia who somehow pulled the team together under extreme adversity.
If you want to speak in fact, I don't know what would have happened if Gruden had stayed, and neither do you.
Speaking of facts, Sandy, you suggested Bennett lost snaps at CB due to ineffectiveness. When asked specifically about that, McDaniels said Bennett was dealing with injury(s) during the game.
Are you really citing something McDaniel said to back up one of your arguments that is really foolish because of course McDaniels would never say anything wrong like when he said that they were double-teaming Mac and they weren't Sandy
Oh, then McDaniels must also be faking Bennett's injury on the injury report.
Seems like you're looking for ways to bash the current regime. I'll be the first to admit, they don't need help in that dept, but I'm still rooting for them to succeed.
Yes McDaniels is a liar on top of a terrible coach. Read Levi Damien's article about what McDaniels said about Mack.
Also NY I believe we had many a email exchange when you were foolishly celebrating the hiring of the two Patriot Putzs. I said it from the begining that it was a terrible hire, the sooner they are fired the better.
Sandy
Is that your "I told you so" post?
Yes, I was excited about McDaniels as HC. But I am not a football professional. I'll be the first to tell you, I am uninformed. I only want the Raiders to be relevant again. Call it desperation.
But be careful what you wish for.
Funny that you might have a short memory regarding all the "rookie-like" mistakes Gruden made during his return to the Raiders. For friendly discussion, let's say early on...
Gruden's play calling was horrible - his worst plays were his scripted plays to start games. Raiders were consistently worst in the league at 1st QTR scoring. And the Raiders were often void of second half adjustments under his second stint as HC.
Gruden's defensive coordinators were horrible, and he was slow to make changes in that department.
Gruden's personnel decisions were unparalleled. His worst choices were his top-line picks, which typically offer the most national scouting. I'll save you the agony of listing them again.
Gruden went through a long period of failing virtually every play challenge he made. What's up with that? Was he getting bad advice?
McDaniels looks like a rookie coach out there. I can't explain it, and I'm certainly not happy about it, but I don't wish for more bad coaching by someone else.
I guess if I could call a redo, perhaps I would be really curious to know what would have happened if Davis retained Bisaccia. We'd still have Carr and Jacobs would be under a long-term contract. I'd be okay with that. But would this team be any better.
Something else is amiss. Ownership (Al and Mark) is the common denominator. The Raiders have lost their brand, IMO. They currently have some of the best players in the NFL on their roster but they don't know how to win, and they can't get it back. Plus, they're lucky to get 50% of their fans in the stadium at home games.
It's a sad state of affairs. If the players turn on McDaniels it will be deserved. That will force another change, which I don't look forward to. This bullshit has been going on far too long.
The organization is incompetent.
Can you imagine if they had just kept Hurst, Autry, Key, Billings and Morrow, they would have a much better D. Sandy
Autry and Mack were formidable on the edge. Better than any Raiders' combination since. Hankins over Billings but Jenkins is also savvy vet in the middle. Shame that Nichols and Tillery both suck. Raiders are back to having Crosby in pass rush all by himself.
I thought Deablo was decent but he forgot how to tackle. He can wrap, but not tackle. Some other guys just bounce off ballcarriers and hope someone else makes the tackle. Apparently, Raiders coaches don't teach tackling anymore.
That's why I like Bennett. He plays the run and can tackle. He'll make mistakes but he'll get better. He has 4 games as a pro.
Here's a really thorough review of the defense so far. As we suspected, Patrick Graham sucks! The author compares Graham's first two games this year as equivalent to prevent defense. We all see it. The cushion off the LOS and soft zone coverages, the Raiders DL getting pushed around, etc. But when they play aggressively - which Graham has been forced to do - they are clearly more productive. There's no denying, Raiders are still a huge mess, and much of that lies with coaching. Play calling is awful on both sides of the ball.

* Go Raiders!!!
This is the date Al passed and its' a day that saddened Raidernation and others who maybe didn't like him but thought he was one of the best GMs' or just was fun to watch! whether they hated or liked him! He was a legend and icon and bought a lot to pro sports and this post is to remember him! both good and bad he was fun to watch!
Al was one of the greatest GMs' in pro sports history!
When he first came to the Raiders they were one of the AFL's worst teams and he changed that!
When Al would be in a MESS he would work with his front office to solve it he would NEVER overprice Raidernation or be so cheap the Raiders couldn't find an NFL or pro bowl level guy on their team.
He won SBs', showed loyalty, helped in the rights of people and he was one of the best GMs' ever!
He did a lot of the pro sports and he was helpful in bringing more things to pro sports for fans and players and he was a guy who did things his way! the NFL may be making money but Al and his Raiders brought the chance for many people to succeed in the office, news, media and the game he and other legends helped make the NFL better!
* Goooo Raiders!! I don't cheer for nothing but I do cheer for the Raiders past! So I don't cheer for their 'brand', I cheer for their past!
So, if they want to come up with excuses to make the team lose then I cheer for their past and I hope they'll stop pressuring the front office to save money! they need to stop working with the NFL and take some better advise and try to spend to win and do things with ideas from themselves and old legends like Al, Walsh, Steelers and others but don't just listen to the owners/ NFL!
A Raiders fan infommercial? That's twisted.
