To NY Raider,

Al-Anon

Hey NY! What's happening!? not a Raiders' contender but I hope I'm wrong and it is! been away for awhile!

Well NY, the QBs' I talked about can do a few better things. Pryor is older now and a step slower but he can throw the ball good enough and had(has?) the mobility to move around the pocket. Maybe he's a more mature guy. If not they can keep him and if he sucks let him go.

Mariota is mobile and we need a guy who can move around. Is he a better passer than Minshew? I think he can hit on big throws but hasn't been a top QB during his career and needs to be a manager right now.

Raiders have to figure out the O-line and Running game. 8 yards rushing for Zamir White (leading Rusher) is not gonna cut it.

Here is the haiku of my take:
There's no rushing game
O-line can't block to save lives
No offense, no points

Did not expect that
Pulled one out of our butthole
Hell yeah, we just won

Great to win, but a poorly called game by Getsy. How many passes did we see at the LOS? At one point, Minshew had 8 completions for 64 yards. The O-line is a mess. Kolton Miller and the entire line played poorly, second game in a row.

But it really came down to the players making plays when it mattered. Crosby, Jack Jones, Spillane, Bowers, Adams, et al.

O.K. we're a playoff team again!? I think we played mediocrily and the Ravens just decided to go 0-2! The line is rebuilt with injuries and will need time to heal and gel. The pass rush is thin and mediocre they need to sign some star veteran FAs' and the secondary is mediocre they need another starting CB with J. Jones.

The TE unit is outstanding you mean they finally decided to use it?
Wow! I know Raidernation is back in fold/ house and on the bandwagon!

I think we should complain! yea, stop all the playoff talk and tell the Raiders to try and win! now, we gotta hear all playoff talk! they did good but they could do much better and need to spend and make moves to do it.

You think "the Ravens just decided to go 0-2!" ?

You don't really like the Raiders, do you?

NY, I don't think Getsy called a bad game, the short passes in the first half were necessary given the poor play of the o-line. I think Minshew is playing well considering no running game and little pass protection. Crosby looks like defensive player of he year. Bowers was a great draft pick. Adams is top 3 WR. I am hopeful as the o-line starts to gell, Miller shakes off hsi rust the running game will get going and pass protection will improve. Meantime 1-1 is great. Give the offens some time, new sytem, new starters on the oline etc. Sandy

I appreciate all that, but I think Getsy was probably pulled aside after the first half and told to wake up. I heard that Adams had a pow wow with the team on the sideline and that's about when things opened up. Also, did you see the talk Crosby had with Minshew on the field after his INT? Not to imply it was negative, but the entire team and coaching staff needed a wake-up call to get it done.

Here's another stat I heard. Minshew had 15 yards on 5 completions early in the game. IMO, that's why they can't run. Not a fan of the WC offense. The Raiders don't have the chops to run it. It's way more dynamic and relies on misdirection. The Raiders offense under Getsy has none of that.

When they threw downfield to Adams and Bowers, everything changed, including the running game. That should be the game plan every week.

Remember the ball Minshew dumped on the grass last week? Yeah, WC offense! It's not working. The Raiders proved yesterday they are not a WC offense. The only way to win yesterday was to abandoned it.

The defense looked solid. Crosby is insane.

Nate, if you think this makes us o.k. again you must also think we've come a long way since Al's era or that we're able to compete with K.C., Ravens and Bengals! I don't think so

The Raiders have some stars and done a few outstanding things this offseason but they haven't done a whole lot of things to make this team a contender! The AFC West is a problem and that's bad enough but the AFC is full of good teams. The Raiders are claiming they have the talent to make the playoffs media/ some fans are making up a picture of a team way ahead of it's building(rebuilding?) plan and has the staff to motivate weak units and young guys but the team is loaded and can make a run(?) Well, the staff may be changing the culture and they but they have one big problem that fans really need to stop defending/ making excuses for...;they refuse to SPEND BIG! make bold moves to win!!
moves?:
1. don't just have L. Getsy make OC calls let other veteran staff do it! the offense is dull and it needs some I think they should stick to the West Coast offense why? throw quick and short!
2. get T. McAllister in the game, as a RB! oh yea! let this guy use his speed to run behind a mediocre OL and maybe his speed might get him some long runs. He could be a poor man's T. Hill(Saints) or D. Samuel(49ers).
3. sign veteran star DLs'- the Raiders were thin before the injuries now they could use some help! they should sign some ex/ current star DLs'. A couple vets for a fair/ good price would be great and give Crosby some more help. The idea that they had a top 10 DL was a little too high praise.
4. trade for or sign a veteran CB. Al's teams had dominating DBs' but now we don't even look for star DBs. maybe we could shut down some top passing games and help the DL by slowing down teams' receivers.
You can say we are a good team but if you look at the AFC we need a lot of help if we're gonna compete with the best AFC teams. And we need to have star players and that means SPENDING more. We got better in the offseason but If we are a better team we still aren't a playoff contender yet fans want to talk playoffs but we were ready to quit on the season and we beat a good Ravens team but we didn't dominate them we escaped them-we've been here before and have sucked the rest of the year in the past so maybe a few big moves might help us-we need more star players.

Anon,
Don't put words in my mouth, chump. Nowhere did I say this win makes us ok; I said we got a win in an ugly way, and I'm glad we got a win. Go back and read my haiku.
I was not sold on Getsy hire, but he wasn't AP's top choice, as he made an offer to Kubiak and Kingsbury; but they turned it down for other offers. Getsy got an earful from AP during the game, and after that things turned around.
I cannot believe how horrible Kolton Miller looks either. He hasn't been the same since his shoulder injury; but the whole of the O-Line looks awful. The more things change, the more it stays the same....

To Raider Take,

Al-Anon

We beat the Ravens!!!!
We beat a contender!! so there's some hopes for a winning season maybe not playoffs but 9 games maybe even the playoffs! This isn't a bad team its' mediocre it can get better. We have a DL and our receiving game is outstanding! our special teams is too. But we are the same 'old new regimes we don't get greedy we settle for what we have. We need to get more stars that's our problem.

Al Anon, your prognostications go like the wind, with no direction. When you turn on the hot tap and get cold water, do you call your landlord to replumb the whole building. If you just wait a few minutes the water will turn hot.

I won't pile on and repeat what craziness you said above, partly because I'm still trying to decipher it.

However, I disagree with your continual Raiders schtick which revolves around spending money aimlessly at so-called star players because.., well, because Al did it.

It's the Al Davis way or the highway... because we all saw how good that worked.

Raiders are 1-1.

Anon, don't put words in my mouth, chump. I never said that this made us ok; what I wrote in my haiku states that this was an ugly win. AP even said that its a "W" but we have a lot of work to do. Starting with the O-Line and Running Game. Kolton Miller is not 100% after his shoulder injury and it shows. Need him to be healthy; but he is clearly having trouble. Getsy has to get out of his own way on play-calls too. Raiders won this the Raider Way at the end, they went and took it; but they need to (collectively) have this mentality every game. And it starts with Getsy.
Minshew, with no running game, threw for 276 yards. He put this offense on his shoulders and gutted out a victory. Just won, baby!

Rewatched some of the game. Bennett had 2-3 pass breakups. Jones is a playmaker. So I'm wondering which player or players Al Anon thinks we need to replace with "star" players, and who might be the replacement(s).

Do we sign Marcus Mariota and our problems are solved?

Blogger nyraider said...

Rams are 0-2. Rumors are starting to circulate they could move on from Matthew Stafford before the trade deadline and that the Raiders could be a potential landing spot.

Could the Raiders pull that off and still draft a top tier QB next year?

Safe to say the Raiders aren't looking to sign Marcus Mariota or Terrelle Pryor.

Blogger nyraider said...

Koonce is out for the year. That's a huge blow. Raiders need the recently acquired former 1st round pick (not named Wilson) to step up. Wilson has been a non-factor since he was drafted.

How ironic!

Billboard-days denier, Al-guy says the Raiders NOW have front office issues.

They must Spend! Spend! Spend!

Insert "star player" here, but not one word on who. Which star player? Who's available? Besides Marcus Mariota.

How can you say the Raiders have "serious office issues" if you don't have a solution.

It's also funny that you believe the defense is the problem and the offense is fine... after the offense gained only 2 rushing first downs in two games.

So they are just find one D? Really NY? come on man!!! I mean if you're gonna defend this system(yes its' the same thing) at least come with some good points.

I didn't say the offense was fine its' far from it but its' in better shape than an over rated and thin D. I do like them signing an ex-1st round pick though-Al might done that! but they could've signed an expensive star FA.

The offense: it has some talent and BTW- I think you would be happy I'm being positive about it this time. after they refused to spend big to keep building it up. Back to the O:

1. maybe the best TE unit in the NFL.

2. good almost very good, not great WR unit.

3. the run game is having issues because of the OL and White is starting slow but once again they won't use ALL of their talent. maybe the guy from the Vikings should get more carries.

4. they need to keep the "West Coast" offense. they have a mobile QB they should either trade for Stafford or Mariota before the deadline but maybe Minshew can lead the team and play good. The "West Coast" may help Minshew and use his mobility.
